  2. I know you're referring to 2009 here but being part of the 1976 fiasco I'd say that 1976 "show #1" was by far the worst idea a Madison design staff ever regurgitated. After 1975 (for some reason that I still am not clear on) we had a whole new staff and design team that decided a disco show would be a great follow up to the 1975 blow the stands back show. The fist few shows there was a mixture of golf clapping, silence and cat calls from the audience. Shortly there after we had the old staff back handing out new music to learn while we went on our western tour.
  3. contrajedi8, you're not going to get annihilated by us Scouts honks if you keep this up. This brings to mind an interview with Mason just after he was hired by the Scouts after the 09 season where he mentioned that before he took the position he called Scott Stewart and Jimmy Elvord to discuss it with them. The history of the Scouts is a big part of every decision Jim makes.
  4. Madison is the new Madison, Madison is the old Madison and Madison is the the future Madison. 2012 will be year #74 that Madison is Madison.
  5. I wonder how many Scouts alum go on "Bluecoats 2011" and explain how they didn't feel your corps deserved a standing ovation but of course would've stood up if they were forced to. Must've felt great sharing that.
  6. By definition I guess I'm a Dino. I started marching in the 60's and ended in the 70's with an Alumni Corps return to action in 06. Although there are some things(synth especially)that I don't like now I feel Drum Corps has evolved & gotten much better. Most of all I'm just happy its still around. From hanging around drum corps members the last few years I feel the current members respect the history of drum corps in general but most definitely the history of the corps they are marching. Back in the 70's I don't remember even talking about the corps that preceded us by more than 10 years let alone 20 or 30 years. I think the corps from the 40's and 50's were thought of as being simplistic etc. the same many of today's members look at my era. I certainly don't think of it as an insult but just the way it is.
  7. I agree that BK and Boston have improved a lot over the past 3 weeks BUT so has Madison. The scores and the judging have certainly remained stagnant but the Scouts haven't. 10th place my ### is all I have to say. Yes I'm a homer but have also been to championships since the 60's, have seen a lot of drum corps.
  8. Exactly. Do judges really need to be reminded to disregard the latest scores (i.e. slots) from previous shows?
  9. BUMP! So people can find the schedule (post 1 page 1) without having to wade through dci.org. It's like trying to find the bald spot on the Donald's head - you know its there but it'll take all day. GO SCOUTS!!
  10. PAGE 3 - Really! Third Coast hits the road and we're on page 3. Have a great last 3 performances guys! GO SCOUTS!!!!
  11. Last year I found the manager asked him to crank it up and they did. Never hurts to ask. Point Cinema 16 Madison, Wisconsin
  12. Have a great time this week bro! Will miss the pre-movie theater beer and pizza with you on Thurs. Can't wait to see the 2011 Men of Madison max this great show out!!
  13. First of all I thinkk this is a great question. I also traveled with drum corps for 8 years and wanted to find out as much about the towns/cities we performed in as I could. I always bought the local newspaper to get a feel for the town - of course this was back when most local papers were locally owned and had local reporters. I visited Erie a few years ago while on vacation in PA so will give you a few observations. Presque Isle State Park is a Peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie with bike trails, beaches and ton of migratory birds that stop off to visit. The old downtown area is small but kept up nice by the city. It has some nice art galleries and a variety of restaurants. The people, like I found in most of PA, were incredibly friendly and helpful.
  14. Then tell him to put up the rest of the scores if you would.
  15. The only place I heard of major changes to the closer were on DCP. Not that I'm in the loop of those in the know but I sure as heck hope the Scouts don't consult with DCP prior to making decisions on what and what not to do.

  17. I've changed my avatar in support of my younger brothers in the 2011 Madison Scouts as they push toward the finish line in this last week. The image is of Jon Schrack the DM both years I marched in the Scouts (or if it isn't it sure looks a heck of a lot like him). GO SCOUTS!!! Bring on Allentown! Gotta love the PA drum corps fans!!!
  18. I would think you should certainly contact the Scouts before starting a letter writing campaign. They have been working on this a LONG time and would assume they have permission from some but not all of the people involved for the sync rights. As you can see from the list there are a lot of people involved with the rights and as the Scouts ED has stated on here previously drum corps is not a very high priority to some. I would also think that a letter writing campaign would only make some on the receiving end think that they should charge more for these rights.
  19. Great job last night percussion. Scouts drum line got a 17.10. They've been hanging in the mid 16's for about 2 weeks so that's nice to see. 3 more shows until Indy. Lets get fired up Scout fans!!
  20. Have a great time Bill! I'm Jealous. Are you doing souvies or are you taking over for Frankie?
  21. Well to be fair the Scouts have a break for 5 days Mon thru Fri. I know Crown did something similar prior to the regional show in Minnesota. I believe this is pretty common now and certainly was when I marched in the 70's. I remember making a few changes during a 2 week "break" in July of '76 when I marched.
  22. You definitely have a reputation my friend. I think everyone knows that drinking goe hand in hand with serving. Not going down to Indy - will be a the theater up the street from your place on Thurs though. Go Scouts!!!
