  1. No Boston regional either..... I stand corrected...I just noticed they added the Salem (Boston) regional to the calendar!!
  2. How many world class guards actually march a full 30 members? Pride, Onyx, Sac, NEI....any others? Most guards don't seem to even march a full 30.
  3. With all of the G-7 talk from the recent DCI meetings the rule proposals that were discussed this past weekend by WGI have gone un-noticed. Many interesting proposals including a removal of all rules for the world classes and a removal of the limit to the number of members for an ensemble. What are peoples thoughts on the WGI rule proposals?
  4. If one of my favorite proposals passes all of the things mentioned above would be perfectly legal.....the only thing that would be barred would by the use of fire and live animals.....
  5. Northview 93 uses music by Meryn Cadell from her cd Angel Food for thought. The song you are looking for is "The Sweater Song"
  6. Alter Ego used Moon River by Heather Masse. First Flight used Fix You by Coldplay.
  7. I have used Discount Dance Supply and they are very reasonable. I also have looked at a Wish Come True. They are also very reasonable.
  8. A class is always full of surprises. Last year the guard that was ranked first did not make finals and the guard that won was not even ranked in the top 15.
  9. In Allentown last year the guy next to me kept going on and on during the first half of the show about how if you were not in the running for a spot in the top 12 you did not deserve to be in World Class.
  10. I remember that...in 1999. They only had seventeen guards in prelims and everyone made finals. I honestly think that is why they lifted the age limit starting in 2000.
  11. I think SW prelims are not in the Dayton arena this year. So if you are one of the 2-3 guards that does not make the cut for semi finals in SW this year you will not get to perform in the arena at all. With the size of IW this year...I am in total agreement with you Mike. The more performance opportunities in the arena the better.
  12. a bit off topic...but I am wondering if the newly instituted SW semi finals are really needed. With only 23 guards in the class why bother.
  13. The people who write reviews for WGI (myself included) do so on a strictly volunteer basis. If you are not happy about the lack of a review email Aaron at WGI and volunteer to write one for next year.
  14. The A class sheets are weighted 70/30 towards technique and training....however the judging of that technique and training is still subjective. Once promoted to Open class the sheets are no longer weighted in the same manner. Based on the statistics from 2009 it appears that the transition from IA to IO is the easiest. 5 out of the 6 promoted guards made finals at WGI.
  15. Scores from different parts of the country cannot be truly judged against each other. The only true judgement is when guards see each other in head to head competition. Ranking websites are interesting but not truly accurate. Not all guards improve at a rate of 2 points per week. Colorguard judging is subjective. When you take away the subjectivity of judging things get boring. Look at figure skating. The new highly non subjective scoring system has taken away much of the creativity, magic and spark of the sport. It has also encouraged participants to play it safe instead of taking risks.
  16. If scores were always consistant from prelims to finals it would be considered slotting.....in my opinion judges should score based on the performance in finals and not based on the score in prelims or at a previous show.
  17. The world guard does not debut until this Saturday 1/23. I will be there!
  18. 1992 - "Amazing Grace", 1994 "The Four Sections" and 1999 - "The Great Divide". Of all the shows put on the floor by Emerald Marquis, these are the three that I feel would still do very well if they were performed in today's world class.
  19. I was at the first Eastern Mass show of the 2010 season. In my opinion a guard to keep your eyes on this year is the A class team from the Blessed Sacrament organization. The show is set to the song "Chasing Cars" with a floor design reminscent of the paintings of Keith Haring. The entire ensemble spins flag, rifle and sabre with the signature training and technique that we have come to expect from the Sac world guard. A giant step up in maturity from previous seasons from the design team and members. This is a show that I can't wait to see over and over and that I feel will do very well in Dayton this year. Congrats to the Blessed Sacrament organization and best of luck this season!
  20. Historical scores can be found under the events tab.
  21. The A class sheets are written to put emphasis on training and technique and to take away emphasis on innovation. While I think that many guards that did not make finals in A class had more interesting shows, I can see that the guards that were in finals had great technique and training. Everyone wants to make finals and be on the DVD. In most cases to do so you need to play the game. In regards to the music clearance issues...I will never for the life of me understand why an artist would not allow a non-profit performance unit from using their music. If anything it is free advertising.
  22. I actually love a really good pretty show.....the problem I am seeing in A class over the last few years is that the majority of shows that make finals are slow and pretty. What I would like is to see a little bit more diversity....some pretty, some fun, some aggressive, some intellectual, some strange all thrown in the mix.
  23. Last year I sat through all of IA prelims. I few guards that I thought broke the mold just missed finals. A few that I thought did not get the credit they deserved were Les Eclipses, St Brendans and the University of Louisiana. I think that the 70 / 30 weighted sheets in class A have taken a bit away from the creativity. Shows written to the sheets make finals....shows that go a bit outside of the norm come close to finals but miss the cut in the end. I will say that the training in the A class has improved...which I guess is the intent of the sheets.
  24. I would like to see more diversity of design approach in the A class finals.
  25. a bit off topic, but why do corps feel the need to change uniform styles so often. In my opinion most coprps have lost their identity. In many cases (with the exception of BAC and HNC) if they didn't announce which corps was on the field I would have no idea who was competing. Plus it seems like an enormous waste of money.
