Just watch the show. Upper brass was all white, lower brass all black, percussion all grey. The white and black represented the 2 different gangs in the story. Similarly, the guard was either all blonde or all brunette/black haired...again, representing the 2 gangs. The brass lines NEVER merged unless the gangs themselves directly interacted in the story...the Dance at the Gym, and The Rumble.

Yep. Some people don't realize that climbers on 8000 meter peaks don't just go straight up from Base Camp. They spend several weeks going up and down to lesser altitudes to get used to the rare air up there. On Everest or Lhotse they make multiple runs up and down from Base Camp to Camp 1 and 2 (on the Nepali side for both mountains....don't remember what they do on the Chinese side or Everest, but the technique's the same) to get acclimated. I don't think they hit Camp 3 until they're actually making for the summit.

In 2005 I attended US Fencing Association Armorers College for 2 weeks at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. One of my roommates was an Army Colonel, and when he went on runs during the downtime, he'd come back and ask when they started the oxygen rationing.

Off years yes....but BD always brings it.

There's a difference between a 10 to 10 with sufficient food and rest built into the schedule and one with a lack of the same.

You'd think after all these years and all their success, more corps would try to implement a similar system instead of beating the #### out of their members.

I never did, because we'd been beaten by SCV for most of the season (SCV 10 to BD 4 after Whitewter finals), and we only beat Garfield once...Landsdale, PA...our last regular season show. We knew it would be a fight....we knew that when we watched from the front stands during their Pt. Huron, MI clinic (the show itself was rained out while BK was on the field) People were pegging us for 3rd after SCV won Whitewater (side note...the Wipeout did NOT cost Garfield that win. SCV won it legit that night). We KNEW we'd had a run for the ages after coming off the field....even an uber-rook like ME could feel it. We went up by 1.1 from semis...Garfield only improved by .5 But we also knew Garfield was ready and able to throw down. and they are the last World Class corps to successfully defend their first title...which they did for a reason.

Actually, Garfield was 9th on the field, 4th in ensemble.... overall they placed 7th in percussion...the lowest caption for a winning corps.

Actually, Rick Wygant DID play the solo at prelims ....at finals he has confirmed that he didn't play it at all.

Our run was definitely better than prelims...but BD is typically good at turning it on Saturday night. Cadets at the time -- and for years after -- were masters of peaking at the right time. However, I've had a number of alums from that show tell me they felt their prelims run was the "golden show." They thought they'd LOST finals, so topping us was a surprise (#### it). SCV had a good run....but after they almost screwed the pooch at prelims (arrived to the gate late -- at a dead run), that was easy to do.

I think he's still BD's legal counsel, so I doubt he'd be interested in wading into SCV's issues.

I think the joke there was they got the guard unis from the Castro District in SF. So...much...pearl....clutching...

Whoever would be 13th if SCV was fielding.... It'd be nice to see a new face. Or an old one that hasn't been back for a bit -- like Madison.

No. I marched 84. He was 92. We were in SoCal Dream together...04-06, IIRC.

Y'know the most shocking thing about all this? SCV didn't take the "traditional" path to ceasing operations like so many others have -- gradually falling down the rankings until they fell out of finals and the closing the doors (27th, Bridgemen Suncoast, Freelancers, Sky Ryders, Magic,VK, etc) They were in the top 5 since 2012, including a championship, then boom, gone. SCVC? How many orgs folded a unit the year after that unit WON?? Talk about a house of cards collapsing.
