  1. It was also about test-driving venues for 07 championships. I loved that DCI was being held a 20 minute drive from home...but I feel that Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego (ALWAYS The Murph....none of this Qualcomm #### for a native San Diegan. RIP Murph) would've been a better venue than the Rose Bowl.
  2. Paradox was 82-83. 86 wasn't a separate feature, but part of Channel One Suite. All were arranged by Tom (although the 86 feature was heavily influenced by the 76 version, which predated him)
  3. His wife, Catherine, just posted in Facebook that Tom has passed. Had no idea he was ill. No other details at this time.
  4. BDC is smaller and has ALWAYS been a regional-only corps. The only reason they went to DCI in 07 was because it was in Pasdena. As for BDB...remember that they started in 1977, didn't go to DCI until 1991, and even that was an every other year thing. They didn't start going every year until 2006. SCVC very similar, starting in 1982, every other year to DCI starting in 1991,every year stafting in 2011.
  5. To be fair....EVERYONE was trying something new in 85!
  6. It's hardly a political statement....the west coast IS on the left side of the continent.
  7. 1988 Cadets....FAR underrated for a defending champ.
  8. Teach the kids how to visually project to the upper stands...all the bod work in the world won't mean a thing if it's not clear...just like a brass or guard phrase. This isn't a new idea...IIRC, the solo male dancer from 87 Cadets taught movement to 93 Star...and for the same reason. It happens in other fields...Elizabeth Olsen had a movement coach for her role as Scarlett Witch in the MCU, ensuring that her motions were graceful when SW was using her powers...I mean, even when she was kicking Thanos' purple butt, she looked like a dancer with superpowers.
  9. My idea for a true BD alum corps actually includes the gate turns, 80-84 NY Fantasy tag ending, and the TUG pose at the end.
  10. BAC overall is a threat to the top dogs. If they can hold it together (and I have no doubt they will), I see a title within the next 5 years....maybe sooner. Of course, getting to the top is one thing...STAYING there is quite another.
  11. Makes you wonder about a whole show made up of cliches from ALL corps....
  12. Oh god....a show made up entirely of Regiment cliches!!!
  13. Trust me....BD would laugh at the attempt and then crush that org like a grape in competition. To paraphrase the most famous line of dialogue from the Bill Bixby "Incredible Hulk" TV show..."Don't make them angry....you wouldn't like them when they're angry."
  14. THANK GOD!! A not-BD corps that realizes searching for the magic formula every year may NOT be the best thing,
  15. EMC Productions won 5 separate gold medals....check it out. And props to Eric for 1) gaming the system and 2) taking the playing part seriously, because even to a horn guy, these were good!
  16. So in other words....design to the sheets like they ALWAYS do??
  17. From your keyboard to God's monitor....yeah.
  18. Because the corps director leads the performance unit. The CEO leads the entire org...NOT the same.
  19. There's a LOT of resistance to the idea at the org. Worries about pulling focus from the competing groups, money, rehearsals, instruments, etc....but the biggest one is the quality. They don't want anything that would negatively impact the brand, which IS the biggest one in the marching arts. I get that...a lot of the alums do...but the org acts like we suddenly forgot how to play after we aged out (similar to 07, to be honest).
