  1. Little does anyone know...Mark Arnold will be the savior of DCI as I am sure he has been working all summer figuring out the G7 stuff...
  2. Based on their facebook status, Genesis was also approved!
  3. the one thing I find troubling is that some of these guys had the same "issues" when they were with Revolution and had a similar outcome...is it the chicken or the egg?
  4. This is definitely true (although it was after Semis that is happened). A certain corps did not want to wait until the end as every corps played a short number. The Directors make the decisions so maybe complaints should be sent to the directors not those in the DCI office. BTW, did anyone catch the "encore" given by the Blue Knights in the lot after Championships? I passed by... I am sure this was said in the other thread but this is the same thing that happened with whether to open up the roof or not. Certain corps did not want to take the chance of it sounding different without it being tested in advance. Every issue is discussed by the Directors and those who argue longer usually get their way. I also thought the retreat was underwhelming by the way...
  5. Glad to see that Revolution is still surviving even with the additions of Texas-based Crossmen, Mystikal and Memphis Sound (and all the other DCI corps who recruit there). Can't wait for the competition season to begin!
  6. Rob is still there...but the additions of Mark Sylvester and Tim Newburn are definitely pluses to the program!
  7. So what do we think about the Rule Proposals that will be presented at the upcoming Advisory Meeting? Seems to me that we are battling with wanting assurance and wanting everyone to get a chance... Lots of proposals returning to some sort of double panel to ensure no one judge makes a difference, while on the other hand, others who want more random performance times, etc. Also interesting to see proposals from judges...interesting prospective! Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!
  8. West Johnston will be at the top...if you haven't seen them yet, check them out!
  9. The Schedule was up for an instant on the director's site - now gone, so we wait some more! I am sure when officially up, someone will post it here...
  10. DeSoto is a great story! Those girls are so humble and have worked so hard. Kudos to their school district that gave them part of the money to make the trip to Dayton for Championships. I know from talking with their director that they still have to raise some more funds however. If you are interested in helping them get to WGI, e-mail their director, Karen Blake at KBlake@desotoisd.org.
  11. Submitting a video is pretty standard and even mandatory for units who cannot attend a regional because there isn't one close to their proximity.
  12. Here is what WGI sent out the other day to instructors... WGI's newest fan, award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels, is coming back to the world championships in April! And this time she's not just coming to watch! On Sunday, April 5 at 10am Ms. Michaels will be conducting Sunday Dance Class on the floor of the UD Arena for performers and instructors. The class will last about two hours and will she will share her unique approach to choreography. Space is limited to the first 500 dancers and we will be offering spectator seating to those who would like to just watch this first for WGI. You will be receiving signup instructions later this week but we did want to put this significant opportunity for your students out there as soon as Mia’s agent could confirm these arrangements. We realize that some travel plans cannot be altered at this date and apologize if that is your group's situation. Cost for the class is $25.00 per student and is open to all performers and instructors. Spectator admission will be $10.00. Each director wanting to participate will reserve spots just like World Finals backside seating so we will take your reservation for the number of your performers plus seven staff. Payment will be taken at check-in. Dance Class with Mia Michaels Sunday, April 5 10 AM to 12PM - UD Arena Cost to dance: $25.00 Cost to watch: $10.00 We hope your students will be excited by this opportunity to dance with one of the leaders of contemporary dance working today. Look for more information in the next few days!
  13. the one thought I had when watching online was that possibly their score suffered from the vantage point in the gym. hard to see everything that was going on. (plus still being a dirty but that is understandable right now).
  14. I think we are forgetting the purpose of solos. Solos should be an experience for young students to explore their own creativity. We complain about the activity becoming too much about scores and what judges think. We should be encouraging young performers to try new things and use the experience as a learning tool. So to amfgx, give whatever advice you can but don't push her to do something because it fits in the box. She definitely has a vision for her solo and we should encourage her to develop it further. Just my 2 cents...
  15. So far...the typewriter! Music from Atonement...so interesting when everyone has the best music selection all at the same time... Anyone else see any similarities happening this year so far??
