  1. It's $69. Can the two threads be merged?
  2. Wow, I don't like those. Not for this show at least.
  3. The Cavaliers (and other Yamaha corps) purchased the initial set of drums at a discounted rate. After that initial investment, they're able to sell the drums at a discounted rate and therefore make enough money to purchase a new "free" set every year. Yamaha in return gets the marketing benefits of the Cavaliers using their equipment plus every year and they get more of their drums out in the marketplace. Dynasty is free for sponsored corps. There's no initial investment. Another factor is that Phantom will have more input and be able to give more direction on how Dynasty continues to develop their product for the future.
  4. My post was unclear too.....I agree with you completely. Although, I think the percussion groups should be receiving the same benefits as the guards regardless of how much money is being generated. In the independent world especially...every dollar helps.
  5. He was talking about both percussion and guard. "The vast majority of the seats in Dayton last weekend were filled with participants, not with people off the streets. The same was pretty much true the week before with the guard people." Lots of parents, alumni and participants with groups that weren't there at both. I doubt many people come in off the streets though especially when tickets are $30-$60 each.
  6. They are. You'll probably only see them up close though. A little too small.
  7. Yes, it does help out the budgets. It's just that the budgets for percussion are so much higher than guard. Moving 4-5 marimbas, 3-4 vibes, racks, the battery, electronics, etc can't be as done as easily as moving a floor, weapons, flags, and uniforms. It's more on a discounted level for sticks and heads though. Rarely is it free. As of two years ago, only 2-3 lines on the independent side were getting 100% free sticks/heads right now. The majority receive a discount only. This may have changed recently. I would assume it's about the same on the scholastic side.
  8. Color Guard World Class finalists receive money from WGI. This is based on how many years they've been in finals. For each year, they get a "share" and the shares build up. So, Blessed Sacrament would be receiving the most payout at the end of the season. The numbers are pretty substantial. Percussion World Class finalist receive no money from WGI. They pay a $500 registration fee for World Championships and $250 for each regional.
  9. I loved SCV! One of the fan favorites that night.
  10. I have all of these shows on DVD. Rarely do I get to watch them on giant movie screen with great sound and a great atmosphere. I'm going to support the activity, to fill a seat so that this keeps happening in the future, and also for a chance to meet and talk to other drum corps fans in the area. It's not just about what shows are on and what you have on dvd. You can sit at home by yourself and watch the dvd's, or you can spend $10-15, get out of the house, talk to others in person about drum corps, and support the activity. I don't believe anyone on here that says they can't afford the ticket price.
  11. I saw United in Dayton and this thing just seems like it will continue to be a distraction even it was better integrated. While it's kinda cool, they used it the year before and now it just seems like it's been done and they just wanted to throw it in there again. The overall opinion of a large amount of members from other groups and the some fans that I talked to was "Didn't they do that last year? Why again?" Good luck trying to sell them though. Maybe some drum corps will bite on it since it's been awhile since Les Etoiles used it.
  12. Thanks. I'll keep listening to it and see if it grows on me.
  13. Love the beginning, but I'm sorry. I'm not crazy about anything else. It's almost too complex or over arranged. Instead of playing a melodic line as is, the line has to be played in 15 other variations instead of the actual notes that everyone knows with other quotes buried throughout in deep chord structures that won't speak as well as others. I know most don't agree, but just giving my opinion. I didn't get last year at all even though everyone on here thought was amazing. Maybe I'm not musically educated enough to understand the complexities of this. Thanks for posting the notes though. It helps somewhat.
  14. I'm so excited for this move. There's so much great stuff going on in WGI. I can't wait to hear that in the mix!
  15. Outside director refers to non Drum Corps directors that are on the board. At-large members would be a better term probably.
  16. I've seen the proposal too, but there was a revision/suggestion made by George to make that change to the rules process a few days ago. It's not in the formal proposal that was released. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words.
  17. And I'm pretty sure I'm right. I'll stop adding any information I know to this. Believe what you want.
  18. Rules would still be voted on by all. I'm not sure about payments.
  19. Well, the top 5-6 are probably the best run, most consistent competitively, and the biggest draws in the activity. They have probably have less staff turnover than the bottom half of World class. All would still vote on rule proposals. This doesn't seem like a bad idea. Most people will hate it though just because George's name is involved.
  20. If you're in the top 9 (or 8) you're in. One year terms. If you want to be on the board, then your corps needs to get better.
