  1. Maybe a better question would be to ask why DCI would schedule Denver and Minneapolis (since moved to LaCrosse) on the same day.
  2. My bad - the update to the article declaring that you were starting a DCI Open Class corps is OVER 3 weeks old. Things change - I get it. Word of the Day: "credibility"
  3. Interesting - because on May 11, 2013 the "Hot Off The Press" news on your Horizon Drum Corps website says: "We are forming a new DCI Open Class Drum Corps in the Northwest Tennessee/Southwest Kentucky area. Although not currently accepting members, we are looking for donors to help donate enough to purchase uniforms and equipment. If you can.help, PLEASE donate whatever amoint you like." So which is it? As Rex often says - Caveat Emptor.
  4. Where does the $225,000 YEA received from Chase Community Giving in 2011 appear? It may be part of the reason that Contributions rebounded strongly in that year.
  5. When I asked Rex if he remembered anything he reminded me that DCI won $125k in the Chase Community Giving program in 2011. That explains one big chunk of it that will be a one-time shot. As for the raking of leaves didn't we see a Garfield's Kid on these forums sometime back?
  6. Rex was saying the other day that organizationally DCI is kinda like major league baseball in that it is an association of competitors - except without the money, without a commissioner that actually governs, without owners that are successful proven businessmen, without significant media exposure, and without a dedication to a farm system that develops a steady stream of players and broader fan base. Other than that they're pretty much the same. It does have the stereotypical Yankees and Indians.
  7. I don't understand why Hopkins and Gibbs are often labeled 'the ringleaders' when there are 5 others in this group of seven. Are you suggesting that Dave Glasgow (Bluecoats), Adolph DeGrauwe (Cavaliers), Jim Coates (Crown), Rick Valenzuela (Phantom), and Jeff Fiedler (Vanguard) are hostages or unwilling accomplices? Let's be sure to give credit where credit is due. If you're going to indict one or two - indict them all. I'll also point out that 2 of the groups in "the G7 debacle" already HAVE and actively support their open class corps.

  9. Then if this is in-fact correct and DCI's official position is that there is a tie for the award, I offer a sincere apology to Mike Boo and DCI for my comments. I can see now how Brandt Crocker was confused. Now - someone PLEASE go tell Carolina Crown and their fans that they did not win the award solely and get a trophy over to the guys in Concord.
  10. Again, your participation on DCP is appreciated by myself, Rex, and others I'm sure. We agree that "every question doesn't warrant a press release of some sort". However, on the 'authoritative source' for DCI competition information - in an article that you wrote, in-fact - the information is wrong and has not as of this moment been corrected. Your article STILL says "There was a tie for the John Brazale Best Visual Performance Award, between Blue Devils and Carolina Crown." I realize this is a little itty-bitty point and grant you that in the overall scheme of things, its a minor detail. However, when corps and fans go a-braggin (as they've earned, respectively) about the 2012 results in the future - the 'official' site for the activity has it wrong, despite the error having been brought to the author's attention. As skywhopper notes above [with my edit], "If the final outcome *doesn't* matter [enough to be correctly reported by DCI in their official reporting], then why give the award at all?" OK - I've beat this drum enough. Peace out.
  11. That's all well and good but why is it so difficult for DCI to print a correction on their website, as suggested above and previously? I realize an apology for the mistake(s) would be too much to ask but a simple correction notice would be appropriate. While I appreciate your explanation here and participation in the forum Mike, has DCI adopted DCP as its official source for updates, corrections, and explanation?
  12. Now we know WHY the BD forums closed. Rex asks that you stop now - so the same thing doesn't happen here.
  13. Rex just wondered out loud why J-Boy was such a shill for this gig.
  14. This may be the wittiest comment I've ever seen on this forum. Rex said it was genius, but that it would be lost on Jeff because most drummers aren't familiar with Jamey Aebersold.
