I just got turned on to this album recently. Not sure how adaptable any of this is to the field, but wow...the propulsive intensity and unexpected harmonic twists have kept this on constant replay. The whole album is full of bangers.

Interesting topic here, appreciate the OP bringing this up.
I was at finals every year from 1986-2000, so those years are all covered. First year watching corps was 1984 and was fortunate to see both SCV and Garfield late in the season. Now I have to settle for NightBeat and every once in awhile Allentown, but there are some years that I've missed out completely.
Thinking about individual shows, here's a top 5 for missing out:
2016 Bluecoats
1983 Garfield Cadets
2017 Bluecoats
2008 Phantom Regiment
2014 Blue Devils

94 Years Old. That's a great run!
So much more than just Rocky Point Holiday! I have very much enjoyed playing and conducting several of Ron Nelson's excellent compositions for band and thought I would share the following.
Here are several pieces by Ron Nelson that were performed by various drum corps. Take a moment to check some of them out on YouTube.
Aspen Jubilee
Rocky Point Holiday
Sonoran Desert Holiday
Passacaglia (Homage on B-A-C-H)
Courtly Airs and Dances
Epiphanies (Fanfares and Chorales)
Medieval Suite
Savannah River Holiday
Lauds (Praise High Day)
Morning Alleluias (for the Winter Solstice)
Resonances I
Te Deum Laudamus
Many thanks for this list. There is also the choral piece "Ring Out, Wild Bells" used as the closer for the Cavaliers 1993 show.

Mandarins, amazing...the most unique show of the year. Love your energy and looking mighty clean! Thank you for properly bringing Nina Simone to the field this year.

Phantom Regiment,
Your show has everything. With all the captivating musical moods and textures, superb pacing and flow...this is the show of the year for me. It even feels like watching drum corps on an alien planet. BRAVO!!

Interestingly, the announcer Sat. night at Allentown made a point to promote DCI Blu-Ray/DVD purchases during the show. Guess that script needs to be revised...

I was in Allentown both nights and this show is truly the roller coaster ride of the year! I'm curious to know what percentage of the show does a rifle or some other implement NOT go airborne
All of the top 4 are special in their own right but this is the one show I'd most want to see again. Wishing these folks the best for a special week in Indy 🐋

Just got back from the stadium. Big props to @Jeff Ream or whomever that we never even sniffed rain the whole night.
I didn't stick around for scores, but seeing them now they seem mostly to line up with my impressions (seated about 20 rows back right on the 50).
Devils' show leaves my jaw on the concrete (my favorite from them since 2006) but they do not have it locked up just yet. And while I have been somewhat ambivalent about my alma mater 'Coats this go-round, they are tightening up appreciably and the moment-to-moment flow and progression of the story finally makes sense from beginning to end. I guess the GE judges might be starting to agree.
Show of the night, however, is the TROOPERS...it is a kick to see those folks performing like such bad-A****!! I could see them as another potential top 6 climber in the future if they can get a better handle on certain aspects of their design.
Lots of fun stuff going on in all groups...a few disappointments of course but not going to dwell on those. Considering all the travails in the drum corps universe in recent years, I'm quite thrilled with the offerings this summer.
I'm too tired to give a rundown on everyone at the moment, maybe after Saturday night...can't wait!

Marching Arts Roundtable interview with artistic director Gabe Escobedo and program coordinator Dave McGrath.
I found this to be one of the more insightful episodes this summer, great to see these staffs sharing their experiences.
Looking forward to catching PC tonight in Allentown.

It would so refreshing and exciting to go into finals week (and even finals night) sensing that anything could happen 1-4 and elsewhere.
This seems like a plausible scenario...
BD - high visual
Crown - high brass
Bluecoats - high percussion
Boston - high guard
And then GE goes to....??

I am so digging the straight up aggressiveness of Boston's show, just some crazy juicy material in all sections 🐋

I didn't know much about William Blake, but after studying his Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Blake) he seems to be quite the compelling artistic figure...plenty of aspects ripe for a modern drum corps presentation.
And I am just thrilled they are playing "Finding and Believing" from Metheny...I wonder how much of that tune is on tap? The entire song could be a production in itself.
Go BLOO!

Kinda reminds me of my rookie lead baritone tackling me in the parking lot of LOS in 2017, after beating the Bluecoats and taking 4th on the VERY. LAST.NIGHT. OF. THE. SEASON.
Dads and sons don't get many moments like that...I'll relish that one forever. Mainly because my kid did audition Bluecoats in 2017 as well. Went into Sunday of final camp based on music scores feeling like he'd easily made the line as a rook even with "rook outs" auditioning in with tons of experience from other corps. Visual Staff showed up on last day...very little "written official feedback", and he ended up off that line. And went to Rosemont. And never looked back.
But in that moment...in the lot in 2017, my kid whispered ONE TIME and ONE TIME only regarding the Bluecoats "How do they like me NOW!" Kid doesn't have a vengeful bone in his body. And respects the hell out of all the corps, their staffs, etc. But just that once...he let it loose. 🙂That's a terrific story. I had a good friend who auditioned for Phantom in '92 and didn't get a callback...but then went and marched Crossmen and of course we know how that one turned out.
Thanks for sharing...from a fellow rook-out.

Since it’s my favorite DCi show , end of show 1986 Blue Devils
check out how straight that 100 yard front is 😁
Yeah, I was always so impressed it still looked perfect end-to-end from the side camera angle. But also glad I got to see it live at my first trip to finals that year.

Ok, I'm hearing more out of corps, and a LOT of good corps corpsing is happening this year.
There are too many good AND enjoy programs being learned right now to make a prediction on where they'll place in the end.
I surmise that the further the COVID years recede into the distance, the more groups seem to be finding their footing again with membership maturing and logistics solidifying. Very hopeful for a competitive and entertaining season and I'm thrilled to be making my first trip to Allentown since 2015.

Yeah i can see that. Look closely at the stance, with the type of clothing on the shadow figure. It's giving hints but i don't think anything we would suspect.
There's another art form that also gives that type of body stance and movement.
ooh, capoeira maybe? That would be way cool!
