  1. Wow, what an insanely delightful kick*** pit book!
  2. Off to the races... 1. Devils...the safe choice but I think the 3-peat is imminent 2. Cadets...back in contention with a strong program and powerhouse captions 3. Crown...likely the crowd favorite but percussion continues to drag 4. Bluecoats...would so love to see a title but wondering about variety in the music book 5. Blue Knights...I'll buy the hype, thought they made a real jump in quality and poise last year 6. Cavaliers...bouncing back with a refocused program 7. SCV...hoping there will be some spice to what seems like a generic show 8. Phantom...was initially thinking higher but maybe a learning year for the new staff 9. Blue Stars...loved them last year and think they will surprise 10. Madison...always a favorite but not sure about success with a re-tread show 11. Boston...easily could be wrong about this, just too many good corps in the bottom six 12. Academy...my Cinderella pick, the one group bringing the fun back to drum corps 13. Crossmen...they probably won't stumble but curious to hear how the all-original book shakes out 14. Troopers 15. Oregon 16. Spirit 17. Colts 18. Mandarins 19. Pacific Crest 20. Cascades
  3. Ok, so back on topic...it's really the copyright-related edits from the last 10 years I'm interested in. I guess no one has compiled a list so maybe I'll have to comb the archives and research it myself.
  4. Wow, I must have gotten the very last 1990 volume (it arrived Monday)...so glad as that was the year I marched!
  5. I was wondering if anyone had compiled a complete list of all the edits and cuts made to the DVD/Blu-Ray packages over the last several years. Obviously the big ones are Phantom 2008 and Madison 2011, but I know there have been several smaller instances, especially where corps have used samples like Cavies' Mad World and Cadets' 12.25. I have not purchased any recent video packages but given the uncertain and precarious copyright situation I am thinking about trying to catch up...just would like to know the little things I'll be missing out on. Thanks to any and all who can shed some light here.
  6. Agreed...I keep waiting for the Devs to pull out an all Latin show based on the California immigrant experience with that tune as a centerpiece.
  7. Pretty sure it's the Russian word for the number 4...четыре ("chye-tir-ye")
  8. Favorites in A-town... Friday night: Cavies Blue Stars Blue Devils Cascades Saturday night: Bluecoats Madison Colts
  9. Well duh, of course; please folks give me a little credit... I'm more interested in deciphering the entire sequence. I can see they've included every digit except 8, but repeated the 2 (enjoyed the response from an earlier poster than the "8" was left out of the sequence as a nod to the days when the corps was somewhat nutritionally deprived).
  10. Please do share...I've been racking my brain about it!
  11. Just wondering why they start the show before the announcer setup? It doesn't seem to coincide with a big hit or anything and IMHO just covers up the (way cool) initial musical development. Nevertheless, a VERY proud alum who can't wait to see this in Allentown!
  12. I find it curious that you go out of your way to speak to the importance (at least in terms of scoring) of shows having a theme which speaks to the human condition, yet you seemingly trivialize the efforts of the human beings who bring those shows to life for the audience as reflected in your statements above.
  13. I was wondering if anyone could spot a hidden meaning or numerology behind the sequence of digits used in the ballad: 2 1 7 4 0 6 5 2 3 1 9 Not saying there has to be by any means...just curious if those were chosen completely at random or perhaps it's a little easter egg for audience? Can't wait to see the show live in Allentown.
  14. So help me understand something...haven't the corps and/or DCI secured synchronization rights for most of the current century to make the DVD's available? Why is there a copyright issue here? If any violations occurred in the earlier years couldn't they just stop selling those years?
  15. Ha, you're probably right. Those scores might be more appropriate for a West Coast opener
  16. I'll play...surprised no one has jumped in yet. CADETS 75.7 BLUECOATS 74.8 CROWN 74.5 CAVALIERS 72.8 BLUE STARS 69.5 MADISON 68.2 Good luck to all performers, this season is going to be special.
  17. So after keeping my browser open and the stream paused from last night, I can still rewind and watch any part of the broadcast, just FYI...will be curious to see how long it holds out.
  18. So supposedly you can get rid of the comments/likes in Periscope by swiping left in iOS, yes? But they always snap back for me...what's the trick?
  19. That is magnificent...since when do corps play ballads in a minor key?! Gives you that gothic church pipe organ vibe. And nice quote in the trumpet solo from "Simple Gifts" at the very end...
  20. Now that most of the show reps are out there, let's give it a go... 1 Cadets - after seeing the clips of their closer music, wow...they are out for blood this year 2 Blue Devils - an 8-year string of top 2 finishes, can't see it ending yet 3 Crown - program seems solid for another medal run 4 Bluecoats - good momentum from last year but show likely ahead of its time 5 Cavaliers - climbing up inch by inch, great to hear the meat in the horn book 6 Phantom - hopefully a breath of fresh air amidst all these dark, brooding, intense programs 7 Vanguard - not sold on this program like some others; I'm sure drums will keep them in the mix 8 Blue Stars - still a bit of an unknown but they seem to have an upward trajectory 9 Blue Knights - have a feeling they could start strong then falter; loved last year's production but another esoteric theme is going to be tricky 10 Madison - hopeful they can remain relevant...is light-hearted/whimsical too anachronistic for today's DCI? 11 Troopers - seem ready to prove they belong this year 12 Crossmen - another solid show and likely to challenge above them 13 Colts - don't see any evidence to push them over the hump 14 BAC - this is purely speculation but I wonder if the dust is still settling after last year 15 Oregon - starting to make noise at the next level 16 Academy 17 Spirit 18 Blue Devils B 19 Pacific Crest 20 Cascades 21 Mandarins 22 Pioneer It looks to be an epic year...good luck to all performing groups!
  21. Really don't think so. The voice sounds too contemporary...although definitely some DW influence in the phrasing. I was assuming the narrator's voice and the singer's were one and the same...hope to get the answer from the BK insiders.
  22. Curious to know who the actual vocalist/narrator is on the opening clip...the voice seems familiar, almost like Nancy Wilson. Could it be? Overall, quite an enjoyable musical production from BK this year...best of luck!
