  1. PLEASE tell me someone is playing a show dedicated to Maynard this year. I've been waiting to see if BD figured out this would be perfect for them for 07 but can't wait on them to make an announcement. Anyone else think this would be a perfect return to jazz show for them?
  2. So I got an e-mail on 11/29 and another yesterday asking for my shirt size...can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Anyway, my idea was music from the films "The Lion in Winter" and "The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" Concept of my show idea was the internal struggle between good and evil that exists within us all.
  3. hmm, this is true. Do we get SPECIAL shirts? No really I'll be happy just to get a shirt! The e-mail asking for shirt sizes says that the winners will be notified in a letter. Don't think I'm winning but not sure I wanna jinx it by saying what my idea was either. Anyone else gonna share theirs?
  4. yes, I'll be getting a t-shirt also. read on Yea site that they will be learning the opener Dec 8th and 9th, and will be announcing the cash prize winners prior to the banquet on the 10th!!!
  5. Did you get the autograph? Did you eat dinner? More importantly...Did you get any hints about this year's show???!!!
  6. 1. 88 Madison - from the mello solo to the end...this MUST be listened to with headphones. No I didn't see it live but is still my top pick. Would pay anything to go back in time and experience that moment! 2. 97 Madison (LIVE) That last megachord...my ears bleed. Haven't heard anything like it since. 3. 93 Phantom (LIVE) - Fire of eternal Glory and also the crab step (Finals show). There was 3 standing O's in that show! 4. 92 BD (LIVE) - When a Man Loves a Woman. Standing at field level right in front of horn line...I laughed, I cried, I wet myself 5. 90 Star (LIVE)- That 1st chord is amazingly beautiful and the final push is sooo sweet. Was the first time I had ever seen them. Was the Atlanta show after "Spirit camp. 6. Have to include just one more - 84 Spirit Sop Solo - WOW!!!! LOVE the Atlanta crowd reaction on the CD, didn't see it live but still get chills every time I listen to it with headphones.
  7. My fav. underrated for past 10 years...97 SCV - I LOVE Fog City Scetches, 98 Madison , 98 Cavaliers
  8. Oops, sorry guys. Moved this to Jr Corps topics, not sure how to delete it from here though?
  9. Wonder if anyone will be adding this year's shows to their list. Didn't get to go to Madison so will have to wait for the DVD but suspect I will be adding PR somewhere in here. Anyway here's my list and yes some of my favorite shows ARE left out cuz even though they were great, maybe not their best performance of the year ...(89 SCV, 89 BD). In Order (for today anyway): 89 Phantom 88 Madison 93 Phantom 97 Madison 00 Cadets 96 Phantom 84 Spirit 94 Blue Devils 97 Santa Clara 92 Cadets 02 Cavaliers 92 Crossmen 92 Velvet Knights 75 Madison 90 Star 80 Spirit

  11. CONGRATS CAVIES! SOOOO glad I got to see this show live at least once. Can't wait for the DVD!
  12. YES! Congratulations Phantom!!! And thank you for such a wonderful show this year!
  13. I remember seeing a snippet of the PBS broadcast in a Sears dept. store in 88, not knowing what it was but loving it and knowing I had to see more. The 1st show I saw live was that following year. My brand new band director took a few of us from the band to the Atlanta show: Cadets 76.3 Spirit 69.7 Crossmen 66.9 Suncoast Sound 63.8 Florida Wave 58.8 Southwind 44.3 Loved the show, then when I saw finals on PBS later that summer was hooked for good.
  14. Oh well, there goes my hopes for finals here in Atlanta. To those of you who pointed out the fact that finals held in the South have had poor turn outs remember there were almost 16,000 fans here for the Southwest Championships...the largest regional crowd ever. At least we'll have that show to look forward to every year now. Doesn't seem like finals wiil be as enticing a "vacation destination" for drum corps fans if it is in the same place for ten straight years. Personally I think Madison will be missed greatly.
  15. Maybe Phantom won't win but have no idea how any drum corp fan couldn't be moved by their show. It's so emotional AND they can play loud and sound wonderful doing it. The crowd of almost 16,000 people in Atlanta last weekend were certainly into it...Maybe you need to stick to watching high school band shows.
  16. 1 Cavaliers 2 Phantom 3 Blue Devils 4 Cadets 5 Bluecoats 6 Santa Clara 7 Carolina Crown 8 Blue Knights 9 Boston Crusaders 10 Madison 11 Glassmen 12 Spirit
  17. I predict SCV WILL finish in at least 6th place this year!!! Saw the show in ATL and can't wait to see it again.
  18. Has to be Phantom! 50 year Anniversary, 10 years since their 1st and only gold medal. Such an emotional show too. Finals in Madison where the crowd will REALLY appreciate it. HOW many people will be crying if they win?
  19. The guard feature should be a girl in a black dress trying out for American Idol and getting ripped apart by a Simon Cowell character while getting booed off the field by the hornline....
  20. Seems to me like the competitive aspect of Drum Corps is one of the things that seperates it from Marching band and also helps push members to perform better each night just like in professional sports.
  21. I'm seeing the guard going into the bottle dance, crescendo building, they're on their knees. Cut to horribly offensive poop noises from the contras, then guard holds their bottom as they frantically run towards prop bathroom stalls....then hear collective "ahhh" from guard and crowd....umm, okay, maybe not
  22. 91 is my favorite BD hornline EVER! I remember being so obsessed with that show. Yeah it was different...that's what made me want to listen to it over and over. I think the ballad has THE most beautiful sop solos I've ever heard! Seems to even out the other "non-hummable" parts of the show too.
