  1. www.WestshoremenAlumni.com always has the latest information. JUST ADDED - ADDITIONAL REHEARSAL Friday April 9, 2010 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM { Forum Building - Harrisburg, PA }
  2. ON PUBLIC DISPLAY - THE MEMORABILIA OF THE WESTSHOREMEN DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS SATURDAY APRIL 10th AND SUNDAY 11th "64 years of corps history open to the public for one last time" Founded in 1946 as the Longshoremen, the Westshoremen Drum and Bugle Corps have an impressive history spanning six decades. While no longer performing as a competitive drum corps, former members of the Westshoremen continue to entertain each year as a very successful alumni corps. Memorabilia open for public viewing includes a National Championship Trophy earned in Los Angeles in the 1950's another earned at the Super Dome in New Orleans in the 1970's and a World Championship Trophy from the 1990's. Uniforms from all the decades plus instruments dating back to the 40's will be on display. Pictures, news articles, correspondence and other items too numerous to mention will be available. Immediately following the two day presentation of "all things Westshoremen" everything will be permanently transferred to The Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle Pennsylvania. While the Historical Society may, from time to time, choose to display specific items from the Westshoremen's history, it is highly unlikely the entire collection will ever again be put on display. The display will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, 23 South Second Street in downtown Harrisburg. Hours will be from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again from 11:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Saturday April 10th. On Sunday April 11th the public hours will be from 9:00 AM until 1:00PM. This historical presentation is being held in conjunction with the 35th Anniversary of Serenade in Brass an indoor drum and bugle concert. Serenade in Brass will be held at the Forum of the State Capitol Complex beginning on Saturday April 10th at 7:30PM. Coincidentally "Serenade in Brass" was founded by the Westshoremen 34 years ago as a fundraiser. While no longer sponsored by the Westshoremen, Serenade has become the nation’s premier indoor drum and bugle corps event. 3. MCA AT SERENADE IN BRASS - ACCURATE INFORMATION With regards to all comments posted. The arrangement between MCA and Five Star Brass was reached before the 2007 show. That agreement calls for a performance fee (commensurate with all other performance fees) to be paid to MCA as compensation for the evening performance. Serenade in Brass has never asked any corps to play "for free" and never will. In addition to the performance fee Five Star secured (at no cost to MCA) the afternoon venue and donated overnight rooms for the judges. MCA paid for three judges, ticket printing and extra (professional) lighting for the afternoon show. All revenue (ticket sales) for the afternoon show along with the performance fee for the evening show was given to MCA. The distribution of those funds was in the hands of MCA. The above agreement was in place for 2007 and 2008 and seemed to satisfy all parties. No mini corps show was held in 2009 due to the unavailability of a suitable venue. The same agreement was in place for this year. On January 20th of this year correspondence from MCA indicated everything was in order for the show with the potential for six competing corps and two exhibitions. Information recently posted by Rod Keppel accurately reflects the sequence of events following the January 20th communication that resulted in the February 25th decision to cancel the show. Currently Five Star in the process of returning money to more than 130 people who have already purchased tickets for the mini corps show. The purpose of the original posting on this site as well as the Five Star website was intended to inform the public of the show cancellation. There was no intention to offend. As a final comment, for many years now Serenade in Brass has been a "labor of love" for the people of Five Star Brass. Any and all profits belong to the sponsor South Western High School Band Parents. Thanks Larry, Bill, Rose and Dan
  4. MINI CORPS CONTEST CANCELED We regret to inform you that the mini corps competition scheduled for Saturday afternoon April 10th in Harrisburg, PA has been canceled. Mini Corps Associates (MCA) was to have organized and presented the afternoon show with the winning corps advancing to perform at Serenade in Brass that evening. MCA was unable to secure enough corps to hold a contest and officially canceled the show on February 25th. All persons who have already purchased advance tickets for the mini corps show will receive a full refund. Please allow a few weeks for us to process the checks. We are very pleased to announce the evening slot in the 35th Anniversary of Serenade in Brass will be filled by the Yankee Rebels. As a side note the Yankee Rebels were one of three corps that performed at the very first Serenade in Brass 35 years ago. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by the actions of MCA. We hope everyone will join us for an exciting evening of drum corps at Serenade in Brass.
