They don’t care what we think.  It would be a waste of time and money. They’re  going to do what they’re going to do.   After some of what I’ve read, I’m starting to not care and just mining for humor in it.

I used to care until I realized that they're wearing pajamas, dancing and emoting from one formation to the next and jumping on boxes. There are very few shows that I enjoy now, so a clarinet isn't going to change that opinion much either way. Maybe it's an opportunity for a daring corps to go old school. They won't win, but being showered with donations is better than a medal.

A very generous individual purchased a set of horns out of their own pocket and is lending them to the Cadets for the summer. Yes really

That's awesome. Now the compensating euphonium doesn't seem so expensive. Maybe I should.....

The phrase was "discussion in great detail over months by the voting members".

I am sure it has been discussed.  You could even say "over months", since the sporadic discussions were separated by multiple-month gaps of time.  But my instincts tell me that the proposal reflects the degree of lack of detail from those discussions.  Also bear in mind that this was not done by the voting membership, but by a committee.  You would be surprised how few voting directors were on that committee.  (Hint - using the plural form was misleading.)

And do not be silly.  How would anyone show up at the meeting this weekend and hear about WW for the first time?  They published the proposal publicly.  More importantly, they distributed it to the directors December 15th at the latest.  The rules congress process is designed so that the voting directors can review these proposals before the meeting, then discuss them at the meeting.

I think you’re just arguing with shadows at this point.

Can’t you just say where your info is coming from?  If you can put the “new horns for the past three years” argument to rest, please provide some proof.  Otherwise, your so-called information isn’t any more believable than anyone else’s.

On the YEA store, they’re selling Xeno trumpets that they said they received in April 2019.

The 2018 990 is due out this spring.  2019 is a year away yet.

You're correct about the decreased revenue from USBands, but that's not reflected yet in any public documents.

Right. 2018 should be at least an indication of where things are headed. The last partial filing to rearrange the fiscal year seemed almost as a means of painting a better short term picture.

so wheres legal fees funding come from?

Their upcoming 990 should be interesting, but it won't be out for a few months. You can see where previous legal fees come from, looks like everything is revenue for YEA and distributed where needed. Please keep in mind that I'm not a CPA, so maybe I'm misreading the filing but if the decreased revenue from bands is accurate and the settlement is anywhere close to what Hopkins was asking for, my outlook is gloomy.

I know of three direct examples of members trying out for WC Corps and getting cut and immediately seeking out other opportunities in other WC/OC corps. In one example she ultimately deciding to return to their OC corps that they marched in the summer before, instead of being an Alternate in a Lower Tiered WC Corps.

She ended up Medaling in OC and had a great summer. When you work all Winter and save up money to march the summer and you don't make it to your top option, you go wherever you can because you want to be on the road.

I'm sure some do, I just don't know what the percentage is.

I've heard YEA on verge of bankruptcy and looking to sell the corps, and tuition recently increased. I hope that if they do fold, members can get that $5K back.

I would probably use the payment plan option rather than paying in full up front this year.

Well, now you understand my reaction.

Only if somewhere in the universe people march with social studies books. Personally, for me, the height of drum corps would be something like Caviliers around mid 2000's. I won't say anything negative about particular shows because someone reading this may have marched in one of those shows, but the 10's haven't been very drum corpsy, by my definition. That's ok. My lack of interest will be replaced by someone else's interest. Same thing with woodwinds. Marching with woodwinds or without woodwinds, I'm probably not going to be entertained - most drum corps shows now are something to be endured. But I do enjoy something like Western Carolina University and they have woodwinds, and guitars, and synths, and amps.

Basically, the train that I wanted left the station a few years ago. I'm trying to find a different train that I won't mind.

WWs don’t add to the possibilities. WWs remove the uniqueness. Who cares to watch more marching bands.

In 2018, 337,000 school woodwind instruments were sold and 266,000 school brass instruments were sold according to statista. I understand that you want all brass, but there may be a larger untapped portion of the market out there.
