  1. I assume the times listed are EST, but want to see if anyone can confirm that? http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=6...45-a295918988b3
  2. I'm somewhere without access to audio... anyone care to share who was selected since I can't find it anywhere else? -- Pretty stupid it'd only be available through audio in the first place.
  3. For those of you that mentioned the "Buick" name came from Bill Peterson in 1994, I had always been told that it originated from a judge's tape in the late 80's, I think '89. Can any of the late 80's/early 90's guys confirm either way? Greg?
  4. They believe they were on staff with Phantom Regiment in 2003 and maybe 2004.
  5. and then... Googling and making phone calls is NOT THE SAME AS BEING THERE. Once again you're confusing your delusions for credibility. Don't say you were there when you really meant you looked it up on a computer and made some phone calls. God forbid someone who doesn't know what a pathetic person you are gets on here and mistakes what you write as something of credibility. Being involved with the activity as a member, staff member, and fan (more than you can say), I've heard plenty about the Scott Stewart drama, but guess what? -- I, like you, WAS NOT THERE. Nor was I ever a member of the Madison Scouts (same goes for you). Those of us on the outside have no place trying to "set the facts straight" about the INTERNAL issues of an organization. As I've had to tell you before, just because you work on the food truck for a week doesn't give you the knowledge that a member of the organization has. Serving scientists lunch for a week doesn't give me a right to speak knowingly about quantum physics. And in regards to your "phone calls" --There is a reason hearsay isn't admitted in court. No one cares what you heard, so next time save it.
  6. Diesel fumes is by far the most prominent, its amazing how reinforced it is in my subconscious. I have an immediate reaction without even thinking whenever a bus drives past; the scent gives me an immediate flash of the state of mind I had during my marching days, and then I shake my head and realize that I'm not loading, hanging out after a show, or eating by the food truck. Although I don't smell them often, these also do it: silver polish, valve oil, the smell of flesh burning in the sun (it does exist), DCT, gold bond, the smell of high school gymnasiums, and the smell of motor coach upholstery.
  7. I'd like them to stop making substantive alterations to the activity in the name of "innovation." MLB hasn't switched to aluminum bats for a reason. As far as corps directors and staff members that make decisions within DCI: stop being egotistical pretentious blowhards that think an artistic "vision" is worth changing the defining characteristics of an activity. If the constraints are too much for your artistic yearnings, find another outlet for them. That and bring back full retreats.
  8. Yes, I agree that we all have the freedom to say whatever we want. That doesn't change the fact that it is obnoxious when you and others speak about what you "think" of subject matter that you entirely lack the experience to discuss. Hmm... perhaps I'll wander over to the quantum physics message board and convince them that my opinion is credible simply because I served scientists lunch for a week. If you pity me "in the worst way," what am I supposed to think of someone whose life revolves around living vicariously through others on an internet message board? If that isn't the definition of "pitiful," its awful close.
  9. WHERE DID I MENTION "HATRED"??? You said that you found personal biases laughable, and I replied to that asinine remark. If you want to reply to my post, reply to what I actually said, not other random thoughts you come up with.
  10. People who don't know what they're talking about make me laugh. Bias as a result of rivalry between marching members is far more than mere pettiness, and it exists whether you believe it or not. Once you march, you can never again give a wholly objective opinion of the activity or groups therein. The experiences you have standing in the ranks of your corps forever molds your opinion of the activity. Neither of you marched, so I don't expect you to truly know about this. You may think you know, but you didn't march, so you don't. Perhaps you shouldn't speak so adamantly about something you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. The same goes for a couple others on here that love to speak of traditions and rivalries but base their opinion completely off videos watched, a couple parking lots visited, or a week volunteered on a food truck. Stop living vicariously through others and limit your superflous commentary to things you have the knowledge to speak on. I admire the Michigan - Ohio State rivalry, but because I didn't go to school at either place I wouldn't dare speak in regards to what it is really like for a student, let alone a football player. Clearly I have an outsiders opinion, despite being an avid college football fan. I don't know why people think drum corps is any different.
  11. This sounds like an absolute bag. Stop TRYING so hard.
