  1. Interesting...so you must think a sculpture and a painting are the same thing as well? Art is rather a general term don't you think? There are many types or "art" that have specific names that have a "meaning". What you or I think or believe is irrelevant. What is meant by certain terms and their definitions is important aka reality. Now, if DCI is a church, and you have to believe their gospel as aboslute truth as a cult or zealot would, I understand what you are trying to convince yourself and others means to you. It's not closed minded to be precise in the use of words. The local word police here on the use of the name 'Bluecoats' should attest to that. Again, if you can produce one iota of proof that Drum Corps is in ANY way unique from Marching Band I'm all ears. Note, this must be TANGIBLE, not "the experience" etc. Something ANYONE inside and outside can point to and say, "Hey, that is not in ANY marching band I have ever seen and it's in every corps!"
  2. Originally how crappy and cheezy amplified voice sounds in a supposedly instrumental drum corps show.
  3. Words have meanings or what they represent is meaningless. We wonder why so many things are "relative" to what whatever that person "thinks" is true to them is why we are in such deep doodoo in this country IMHO. Hell, I might as well think that the Constitution of the United States is a framework for a English Style Monarchy because that's what "I" believe despite realities. Wow.
  4. I know this, drum corps has always been a distinct "type" of marching band. So, what makes Drum Corps "unique" from a brass marching band again?
  5. Every corps in DCI has no choice than to have amps. Those that don't appear to play the game...lose. Those that aren't seeming pushing the activity to something else..lose. Quite honestly, the pits are too loud. It should considered accompaniment, for most of the show. Finger cymbals should not be killing your ear drums. It's sounds un-natural to say the least. I would also like to ask about "proper technique". I would assume that outdoor playing vs indoor require different "technique" than indoors..right? Injury free technique? Hmm, I suppose the horns and drums should stop running, marching and playing then? Quite honestly, the only reason I hated the pit in corps (when I marched) was helping haul all their crap to the field and back every day. :) I think and un-amped pit is completely able to be heard. I NEVER had a problem hearing them..and that's when horn lines were loud.
  6. Like a stick in the eye...LOL. But, it sure was nice of people to buy Vista so the Beta testing of Windows 7 was done right! ;)
  7. I want BD to keep the mirrors and do some "Deep Purple" and add smoke generators. It could be the best smoke and mirrors show ever to hit the field! :)

  9. You must sit in front sometime during a show. I can only imagine what you would think if that #### thing was behind you and you had to listen to that. BTW, it wasn't a slight at ALL. Quite honestly when they went to all Bb the whole point of amping the pit was kinda not needed anymore. BTW, do you REALLY think Madison needed the synth to double the tuba parts this year? I mean really?
  10. Let's put it this way, your horn line, and corps, would sound 1000x better without that synth covering up all the nice playing you worked on all year. Any time you drop to a mf dynamic level..forget it..the goo has utter domination.
  11. Yes and no. Most of the time it is simply awful. You can always point to a diamond in the rough...but that is far and few between. But, unfortunately, we have become a country that points to the exception rather than the rule.
  12. Actually, isn't there a minimum amount of juice that has to be in it by law?
  13. Ah! So you have left it to DCI to define what drum corps is for you. Luckilly, DCI does not define drum corps and what it is, and I think a LOT of people think that it is. In some ways this seems rather Orwellian.
  14. As a thought why doesn't the city of Madison Wi step up to the plate and provide SOMEWHERE better to rehearse?
  15. Actually it would be more like if he decided to make a sculpture out of stone and decided it would still be called a painting.
  16. Yes, but how long would you return if chocolate was added to EVERYTHING for the sake of progress and winning? I assume it would be like poisoning the well so to speak for you.
  17. Well you painted with a broad brush, so simply borrowed it to paint it my way. I have NO problem with "change". But, when "change" makes it a marching band...then do some soul searching (and some reading on definitions) and call it marching band. There is nothing new here. MBI has been doing it for decades. If I purchase a ticket to see drum corps I want to see drum corps not marching band or a concert that I could go see to get my singing fix. It's akin to buying a ticket to go see a live Broadway Musical and when you get seated you end up watching Tron on the big screen and having someone tell you that Tron IS a musical and that I'm not open minded enough to adapt to change.
  18. No, there aren't a lot of people that think this way. There are select few that post 6000+ times to make it seem this way. The idea, and God forbid CHALLENGE, for drum corps is to convey music in it's intended media. Some people simply tolerate it because they want to go to a show.
  19. Then go pay to see a concert rather than a drum corps show. Pretty simple.
  20. Where would a forum be is everyone sgreed all the time about everything. Talk about boring.
  21. Probably won't care as they are up getting a hotdog after the singing. So it just MIGHT go over better this time as less people are there to care.
