  1. As I've posted, one of the things I do is design synthetic turf fields. They're most likely going to use Field Turf's "Field Turf CORE System". That's what they just put in at Metlife and will be or did at the Lion's stadium. Its a "multi layer, dual polymer, mono filament". You can google it if you want details. There is one "problem" with bands/corps on synthetic turf. They produce a lot of static electricity, especially indoors. That "pulls" up the rubber pellets in the infill. It doesn't damage the turf. But,usually you have "groom" the field after they're done.
  2. Well, the Denver Broncos did fire their coach after one season. Allowing a design team time to "gel" and come together sounds good. But you are dealing with "free agents" so unless you're BD, there's no way to assure they will stick around.
  3. Watching their show ,I don't know either. But ,it is a "fan favorite" so I was wondering if they may "slip" it in , even if its only "brief". That's why I asked.
  4. I've seen a few posts about "Rondo" on the BLL broadcast. Anyone know if Lindsay Vento or Dennis De Lucia will be doing the broadcast too ?
  5. I keep reading that Allentown is a "cash cow" for DCI. Could someone explain why/how that is ?
  6. That creates a lot of issues for people like me who travel to Allentown and have to be at work on the Monday after the Easts. 1.You have to book an extra night in a hotel 2.Additional meals 3.You have to travel back sometime Sunday afternoon /evening instead of during the day. If the show starts at 7:00 or so, you don't start home till at least 10:30/11:00.
  7. That may be. As I posted, my wife and I have been going to the Easts since the late 80's. There may have only been 1 "Rain Out" since 2010 ,but there have been a number of times when they delayed the start time by, in some cases a couple of hours because of weather. There have also been a number of times when there have been significant weather delays during the show, including at least a couple of times when they had to empty the stadium. Last year was strange in that they delayed the start on Friday for lightning. Yet, they they let the show keep going when there were lightning flashes all over the sky. Also, even though there may have been only 1 "Rain Out" several times, after lengthy delays, the remaining corps only did "Standstills".
  8. According to NOAA ,the forecast gets a bit more "dicey" after 9:00. Chance of precipitation goes up to 60% with possible heavy rain. At least the forecast for Saturday is decent.
  9. As I posted, been going to the Easts sine the late 80's. Unfortunately, have to break our streak this year. My wife and I always park on N 19th street. Pretty much the same spot every year. Problem is ,you have to get there early to get a space ,especially Saturday. We're usually there by 5:30 and tailgate. We're both in good shape, but going up and down the hills does a number on your calves.
  10. I've been going to the Easts since late 80's. Love Allenton. But it may be time for a change. Poor Parking Not enough bathrooms Limited concessions with long lines Plus, if they move they move the Market Place permanently and have the same issues with food vendors they're having this year, that just makes things worse. A dome would be nice. But the only option is Syracuse. Too many issues there to even consider. Even if the Easts stay in Allentown, the "elephant in the room will always be corps housing and practice sites . That situation is going to keep getting more and more difficult.
  11. They don't have permanent lights. You'd have to use temporary lights, which would be expensive Based on that, Lafayette seems like a viable option.
  12. The Market Place area seems like its been shrinking for a while. Lots of "stuff" stored there. A couple of friends who love in Allentown think that eventually the school district will build some type of storage building there.
  13. Couple of things: 1. I presume the U o P reference is Franklin Field. DCI has the Easts there when they were renovating Birney Crum. Not a great place for a number of reasons including parking. 2.Lafayette seems like a viable alternative. Again same general area. 3.William and Mary would be a much longer trip for people who go to Allentown from North Jersey and Eastern/North Eastern Pa.
  14. Does anyone know how may seats to the Easts are actually sold ? Seems like a lot of the lower bowl are always empty. Depending of the number of seats that are actually used, what about Lehigh's Stadium? Its right down the road. Could probably use a lot of the same DCI volunteers.
  15. Rutgers is one lane road in and one lane out. I understand the positives about moving. It sounds like moving the Market Place outside the stadium may permanent. That's inconvenient. The East crowd is older. Walking that hill is tough. Delaware does look nice. Biggest negative to me is that, if they move the Easts its no longer going to be 2 days.
  16. Have to miss Allentown this year for the first time in longer then I care to remember. We always parked on, I believe N 19th street. BUT You have to get there early. Especially on Saturday. There are a couple of private lots for the "apartment" /"Assisted Living" buildings in the area that tend to be empty. BUT They will ticket you. Also had one friend who was towed. The lots are well signed, warning you.
  17. As I said, on synthetic turf, the logo is sewn into to the turf material, so there really isn't anything you can do with it.
  18. As I posted, I design synthetic turf (and natural turf) fields. On every synthetic turf field I've ever designed, the midfield logo and yard lines are sown into the turf. As I also posted, today the yard lines are manufactured as part of the turf. The only thing we paint on synthetic turf are temporary lines.
  19. That's correct. I design synthetic turf fields. MetLIfe has separate endzone turf for each team. They are large "trays" . As I recall, it takes the ground crews about 8 hours to remove the turf for one team and install the turf for the other. They do the same thing for college games. They have "plain" turf, that they paint each team's logo. I don't know if the endzone turf sections "zip" together or use a Velcro type fastener. I guess they could use something similar for midfield. But, every synthetic turf field I've designed had the midfield logo, and all the line markings sown in. In fact, today's turf comes with the lines manufactured as part of the turf.
  20. Forgive me, but I don't know "hierarchy". Is the "Allentown Committee" part of the DCI "umbrella" ?
  21. One possible solution would be a "wristband only lane". If no one is using it, have the staff allow other people to use it. I see that this was in the July 12,2023 edition of DCW. I wonder when DCI found out about this ? It would have been nice if DCI sent out an email to ticket holders. Ken
