  1. Another vote for one of the Max series here... We use CyberMax top heads and Ambassador side heads. The type of snare can make a little difference... we have Mapex-Quantum stuff that has a pretty decent range from wet to dry. Dynasty's stuff always tends to sound quite choked off and hollow to me. I felt best with the sound out of our old Yamaha sFz's when they were outfitted with Hybrid top heads and hazy side heads. We briefly tried the hybrid side heads on those Yamaha's too... yuck. Terrible sound.
  2. One of their better performances, at least. Hopefully you catch us this year. Much better concept, better writing, and if all goes as planned, better execution.
  3. Precisely! Plenty of public domain stuff in this year's show, too. We have the next 2 shows generally shelled out as well, but they are a little more dependent on material that would need licensed. So we'll see how this all plays out. And I have to ask... Where did you see our show last year? That one had great potential, but a 1-and-done director that the kids didn't respond to... it never got there.
  4. (((That awkward moment when you think your log in name displays as your screen name.))) PM sent. Photo and profile updated. I should look a little more familiar.
  5. Hi, Dan! :) I can tell you that we spent $600 to license 2 tunes for our show this year (a TV show's theme and a Beatles number). Our ballad, however, was a pop song from the last 6 years or so and was going to cost us $1,100 just for that number. Needless to say, we got a new ballad. As has been said, though, sync rights (setting any protected music content to *any* visual element, be it live images, edited video, or still photos) are a completely different animal from licensing rights, and the syncing rights are absolutely bananas expensive. Reynoldsburg HS got popped several years back for posting a video on YouTube of the band performing their show, which had licensed songs in it. It got very ugly for the district very quickly.
