  1. I say, let corps tour however they wish, full, limited or regional; does it really matter this much? I say no. They are touring in ways that benefit their corp the best way and from what I know, the long term out weighs the short...especially when it becomes more difficult to travel due to rising costs. The regional aspect, yeah I agree, it does seem unfair but hey, just put a clause in that averages the last two scores and use that for their placement or something...all and all we need to get rid of this vagueness in regards to show placement, but don't chastise them for their policies. Now I have seen people say they should go Div. II (Open Class) as it now as, but that isn't beneficial either because they would lack competition and if that's the road you want to go then you had better take the rest of the corps around them in score into Open as well which, I strongly oppose as well Ya know, I believe limited tours make a lot more sense for West Coast corps, especially since majority of shows take place in the Mid West and East Coast. - Expenses are greater on the West Coast - Greater distance to travel from show to show as opposed to the Mid West and East Coast corps. As we all noticed this past season for us West coasters it's roughly 8hrs from state to state, it is a totally different form of travel than the East Coast where you can travel through a state in a few hours. So financially it's easier to go from show to show as opposed to a West coast corp competing in CA, AZ for ex. and then making the trek to the East and then around there till Championships...that's one heck of a demanding and costly tour. I bet you that if they were in the East they would be doing full tours. All in all I could care less what the corps pursue, they know what's best for them not us. Certainly not competing as much does impact their scoring but look at it this way...if the corps we're talking about like, PC, Academy and Mandarins took a full tour they would be far stronger competitively. Academy and PC were fighting for finals but slipped away at the end but if they had had a full tour I would have been scared to be in the 9-14 area. For corps that don't rehearse as long or tour they certainly know how to maximize that time to become as competitively sound as they have been, not to mention equally strong in talent as other corps. So, does it really matter if they do full or partial? No In reality I think the placement is the least important factor and if a corp wants to run the table and fight an uphill battle that rewards full tours let them, but don't limit these corps because of how they chose to tour especially since it has so much to do on finances, location and members educational, financial, and travel concerns.
  2. True, but I seriously doubt that they (PC) hasn't been improving by leaps and bounds and would drop when they had been fighting it out with finalist contenders. That being the case I don't think the Mandarins are a major concern for they had only seen PC and Academy and the drop I think goes with my own beliefs that they were most likely being over scored due to their history w/. PC in scoring. Regardless, it's going to be a real fight for any of these corps. Sure do enjoy seeing them back east :) one of my new favorite corps
  3. I would say there are 8 corps capable of a 12th place finish; Blue Stars, Academy, Spirit, Colts, Glassmen, Crossmen, Madison and PC. PC I'm saying PC for 12th when I saw them back east they were nipping at the heels of Blue Stars, Spirit and ahead of Crossmen and Madison and even then were not terribly far away from Colts and Glassmen. With Academy it was a 3pt spread at their last show so, looking at how it's going I'd say PC is in the thick of things and will surprise by kicking someone out of the top 12
  4. why don't we just rank all 22 by volume
  5. The closest corp is PC and that's who gets my vote, the home corp.
  6. I just have a couple things, I would like to know - which corps are being under estimated - " " will not live up to their potential Just doesn't seem to be addressed...but I do think there will be some surprises for sure, my money is on 12-18/19 being pretty tight for the most part as opposed to the past few seasons.
  7. thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for
  8. I need to know the number of corps in 1972 or at least a ballpark number. It is for a paper I am writing on the history of Drum & Bugle Corps as a site of memory. Thanks
  9. - I say Colt Brennan is the best thing on the field, just wait till the next draft - Salad - Paper
  10. Worst: This elementary school we were at in Slasbury PA...no showers of course had to go share w/. southwind. Home showers, DBHS. drains are clogged, they feel like someone is trying to pee on you and only 4 of them work Oh yeah, River City H.S's omg...they burn they're soo hot In general I've had more Box 1 and 2 than any 5's...and unfortunately I don't remember the really nice ones really except for some H.S. outside Madison, Very Nice
  11. Be on time! shorts and underwear, haha. If you're like me, board shorts, easy to wash by hand and you will not need to bring many. Air mattress. I got through a tour w/. out one but, it's much more pleasant w/. On the bus claim the floor as early as possible aka bring your sleeping bag and throw it down once you're moving...or set up turns... slippas aka sandals(...had to throw some Hawaiian slang in) sun glasses B) lip balm w/. spf don't use the bus bathroom keep everything together and prepare ahead of time, gives you more time for meals
  12. Just a couple I really enjoy that I haven't seen posted The Producers Fame Anything goes Meet me in St. Louis
  13. I'm doing a research paper on Drum and Bugle Corps as a form of memory and so far I haven't come across any names with red but I have come across a V.F.W. group, Rilley's Raiders' who wore all green
  14. If only I was back home in SoCal. Nearest theater to me is about 5hrs away...then again I'm probably the only or one of the few drum corp members in Hawaii
