  1. Actually she's about 10 years older than the youngest member on the field.
  2. As someone that is a year-round resident of the Cape I found this particularly amusing.
  3. One thing I think we are forgetting is the other half of the equation: The marchers themselves. They recognize which staff they want to be around and can make their decision on where to spend their summer. I've known people that have followed caption heads from corps to corps because they like how they run their caption. I would go so far as to say that the caption heads have a larger impact on an individual's summer versus the rest of the reasons someone decides to march somewhere (distance, money, organization, personality of the corps). Both years I marched I had two different sets of staff, and while the traditions of the corps and what made it special were intact, the educational experience I had was very different.
  4. Really cool to see the close scores of Spartans, Legends and Gold. Unfortunately, until most of these corps do their DCI tour to finals, updates aren't as frequent. BDB is sitting on a 65.2, but their last show was on 6/24, and everyone has had at least one show since then, save for BDC
  5. WGI does this somewhat, at Finals they have a 'Fan Favorite' award that people can text votes similar to shows like American Idol. One unit from each class gets recognized at Finals retreat.
  6. Judging from their schedule, I'd say that's from a parade the corps was at in Millbury, MA Overall, I like the new uniform. I'm not 100% sold on the stripes, but field versus standing/etc. Musicman, I also am saddened by the change from white to black pants. I'm also an alumnus, and I know how unforgiving white on the field can be. You're either very clean or a millipede. ETA: here is a better closer picture of the Spartans drum major, with white gloves and a chrome helmet.
  7. I also marched at Nashua, and my last year tuition was $1350. That covered everything as far as tuition, camps, uniform, horn, food, ect. I spent about another $150 on supplies for the summer, and also had to figure in gas to drive to and from rehearsals. Like Spartans87 said, fundraising can help a lot. Through donors and ad space I sold, I think I paid about $300 for my actual tuition.
  8. Phantom 2003 - or "Visual package? What's that?"
  9. Yes, they have had their most recent uniforms from 2010 to 2012, and the previous ones from 2007 to 2009. Logic would dictate that they'll have these new ones from 2013 to 2015. I'm assuming they'll be similar to their 2007-2012 uniforms, with some modification.
  10. Scouts' line turn, Holy Bass poses at the end of the show, Cadets horn carriage, Boston's elbows until about 2006.
  11. Last I checked, the Spartans are using Dynasty drums and System Blue horns.
  12. I would love to see a show using music from symphonic black metal bands. Now THAT would be a dark show.
  13. One of them plays on a trumpet with rotary valves, like what French horns and concert tubas use. The others I'm not sure on.
  14. Staff, program and members win. You can write the best show of the season, but if the kids can't achieve it, the show doesn't work.
  15. Lemme get this straight, you're talking about regional circuits that feature marching bands run like drum corps. The contests the bands compete in are sponsored by DCI corps as a fundraiser/moneymaker. Neat idea, but why would a person audition for said marching bands?
  16. That happened with the Bluecoats in Jersey this past summer. During the last run of the night, the lights went out at the last minute of the show. Everyone there, members, staff and fans hyped it.
  17. I marched with someone that was with Fever in 07. I'm not sure which rights it was, but they didn't make the DVD, even if they were solidly in Finals.
  18. There was a mello that marched with a broken wrist and later a sprained ankle, a baritone that had shoulder issues, and one of the guard members tore her calf I believe?
  19. My favorites are ones that I used when I marched, and 'Thumbs' used by the Bluecoats. The two I used most often were Bb(unison)-Bb(1+5)-Eb(1+5)-Fsus4-F-Bbmaj, and Bb(unison)-Bb(1+5)-Gbmaj(Everyone except Mello have 1 and 5, Mello has all chord tones)-Abmaj(Same as last chord)-Bbmaj
  20. There are Open Class corps in NH, TN, and MI. Spartans, Music City and Legends hail from those state.
  21. Judges do use digital recorders now, and from my understanding, upload the tapes to a website called Dropbox that each corps has. Each corps uses their Dropbox differently, mostly sharing files like music, drill, scores, recorded run-throughs, hen etc. The staff can then listen to the recordings before a critique.
