  1. But in defense of the guy, don't we now march 3v Bb trumpets instead of 2v G soprano bugles? And march tubas instead of contras? And march 150 instead of 127? More and more like "band", wouldn't you say? If you think about it, shouldn't it be called "Drum and Brass Corps" instead of "Drum and Bugle Corps?" quote.... England has had BRASS "BANDS" for over a century at least. Do WE want to really go there.....?
  2. And thank YOU for such a nice send off to ALL the corps that made finals and as such should be getting some love...!
  3. ...BAND...? Is the OP not exactly what the problem is with DRUM CORPS today? What I want to see is when they start trying to change Bagpipe bands to marching bands and wonder why everyone there is #####*****!
  4. This was the FIRST DCI Finals I've been at since 1987 in Madison. Great stuff. But if the trend keeps going toward "amps, narration, any instrument" type of movement then I'm out. But if that happens then what a year to close 40 years of DRUM CORPS. What got me hooked into drum corps was drum corps and not just marching music (marching band). Nuff Said.
  5. FANtastic post!!! Being there Saturday night was THE all-time drum corps experience in 40 years for me. After watching the show and waiting for the scores...to FEEL the crowd erupt when BD was announced in 2nd was a once in a lifetime moment. Blue Devils and Cavies have nothing to hang their heads about as their shows were fantastic BUT Phantom was not to be denied. I thought that I would never see a show that would beat out 89 PR as my all-time favorite show but I was wrong. 2008 will take 1st place in my heart now. Thanks to the OP for putting into words what most of us there felt!!!!
  6. Thanks for the very kind words. This was a special year for DCI and ALL the corps made it one of the best in memory. Usually by finals everyone is set for placings for the most part. But Boston, Knights, Stars and Glassmen made it very interesting the week before going into DCI week (not to mention most of the season). All four corps put it out there and really amped it up at finals. Congratulations to Blue Stars for coming back home to finals and to BAC and BK for being the great corps they are and excellent competitors. Looking forward to seeing all again next season.
  7. No disrespect intened to you dciguy1987 but "what" exactly did you call a few weeks ago? That Glassmen would stay in 11th place or not make a climb higher? Just last week going into finals week Gmen were trading places with BK, Boston AND Stars right up to quarter finals. So you weren't calling anything as far as I can see. And the fact that only 0.025 separated them from Boston for 10th place shows that if a judge blinked they could have traded places. EVERYBODY stepped it up for finals week and what was two weeks ago or at the start of the season didn't mean a thing. If you think that Glassmen are at the "bottom" of the barrel placing wise and deserve to be there then everyone else in that tight pack does too as they have all been duking it out pretty good. The fact is that this year the competition was fierce and anyone of those four corps could have been in any place at the last minute. There is no way you of anyone else could have "called it a few weeks ago" let alone last week. Looking foward to next year and hope it is as exciting as this. See you next season.
  8. Nice...I quess it is possible to brain fart on a computer. Way to show your class dude.
  9. Got a late start out of Detroit and missed Gmen last night. Downloaded the APD also and I think 1) either the pit was amped up too much or the placement of the mikes sucked. Others have said all the APDs were recorded poorly. 2) Gmen did sound a little muddy in places. After they pound it today at rehearsal they should bounce back tonight. Go Gmen!
  10. Thanks. I know they went there last night after Buffalo but I thought they were rehearsing somewhere else. Mayb that big high school down the road. See everyone there tonight!!!
  11. Does anyone know where the Glassmen are rehearsing today?
  12. FANtastic thread! Positive in ALL the right ways. I too agree with all the other parents as to how our kids evolve and matue though Drum Corps. Just the fact that they learn to be "part" of the team and not the center of the universe is worth the price of admission (corps fees) alone. Kudos to all the other parents and especially the management and staff of ALL corps who show our kids the right way to maturity.
  13. Madison is staying at Roosevelt High on Eureka Rd just south of the tracks. I'm working the show so I won't be staying in the Toledo Tavern TOO long today. Good luck to ALL the corps tonight and GOOOOOOO GLASSMEN!!
