  1. Yeah?! Well I'M gonna talk myself up on the INTERNET so I can be BETTER than someone else and prove them WRONG. EDIT: (this post is 75% joking...but admittedly 25% percent ######)
  2. Who WILL be on top? I don't know...I'm neither a judge nor a psychic Who SHOULD be on top in my opinion? The Cavaliers. Look, I totally dig what BD is doing musically. Many people don't like this music because they don't understand it. When J.S. Bach died in 1750, people didn't understand his music, either...now look at him! I'm not comparing BD to the genius of Bach, but you get the idea. Even though I appreciate what BD does musically, their visual to me is a joke. It seems as if they are playing chicken with the judges to see how little they can do, and still pull off first place. Again--I'm all for their music. But the visual (and therefore, total package), to me, doesn't hold a candle to the corps I hope comes out on top...the gentlemen in green. EDIT: And before G runs in here telling me I'm obnoxious for turning this into a BD war, how BD 2010 is the most difficult visual show in the history of the universe, blah blah blah, that is NOT my intention. I have all the respect in the world for every performer out there, from those whose seasons ended last night to those who will be performing a victory run tomorrow. I'm just stating my opinion.
  3. If they WERE 0.3 better, BD is therefore getting penalized 0.1 in CG because of a judge's error...you can't just shrug that off!
  4. In that case, they should be better with their "numbers management" earlier on. What would have happened had BD been 0.3 better than second place (19.8)?
  5. Didn't something like that happen with the Cavies in 2001? Their brass was somewhere around 4th, but it was their Ensemble score that kept them in contention (and ultimately helped them win). To WAAAY oversimplify it, you can play REALLY BAD but still REALLY TOGETHER.
  6. There was a BLATANT flag timing error right near the 50 and right near the front sideline halfway through the show. I thought for sure they would at least get knocked down to 19.9.
  7. It doesn't quite mean "best of the night," either. If that were the case, then every night's champion would score 100!
  8. Let's hear it, perc2100! (regarding why Phantom beat Cavies in GEVis in 2006) I've always been curious about this, because as far as I'm concerned, MACHINE defined GEVis back then.
  9. Did Bloo really score 96.95? Neither DCI nor Boo have mentioned a score for them.
  10. I used to think that as well, but he does a GREAT job of offering legitimate compliments and analyses of ALL the corps! (even Crown) EDIT: Once a Cavalier, always a Cavalier. Boo IS a Cavalier!
  11. TUBAS!!! ARE YOU WITH IT?!?! http://www.bumjuggin.com/crazy-judge-doyle-gammill.html @lastknight -- OUCH! (but I like it)
  12. I'm also not trying to bash Phantom, but... So many of the errors people griped about with their 2009 production were ALL OVER THE PLACE in their 2008 show! I have never believed that Spartacus should have won that evening, and, in my opinion, their relative demise these past few seasons all but proves my point. To more succinctly answer your question, I think they've always had the problems they have now (visual, color guard, overall design, etc.)...it's just that there is a lot more competition up top, with Crown and Bluecoats now in the mix! Where is Regiment now...around 6th? Take away these two corps, and they're in 4th, which was about where they were from 2003-2007.
  13. As mentioned occasionally here on DCP (most notably by Eric Sabach), Crown will apparently have something up their sleeve for their Semis show. Any word from anyone on what that might include? Many consider Crown to be Star's "second chance"...will there be any connection to the Star Alumni Corps performance that same evening? (I really doubt it...just trying to get a conversation going!)
  14. He's mentioning the one just below middle C. And Bruckner, that's a VERY good point. Those Yamaha tuba high F's are awful! Crown's line does ride sharp on them (and flat on the B-flats...yikes, perfect fifth!), but it IS in tune within the line!
  15. WONDERFUL way to clear the air! I loved the whole post!!!
  16. If each of the 16 tubas tried to create THEIR OWN musical lines WITH NO REGARDS to what the other 15 were doing, THEN it would sound "terrible and individualistic." You can--AND SHOULD--establish musical line as an ensemble. In the Mahler especially, these tubas do not. Sorry.
  17. Actually, this recording just further proves to me that their tubas DO NOT CREATE MUSICAL LINES. There Mahler is just so note-y. There's no line! I say Bluecoats.
  18. I really wasn't bothered by your post...seriously!...until the above statement. By your logic, then, orchestra music is NOT "exciting." With that in mind, I cannot value your judgment of orchestral music, and I therefore cannot value your judgment of present-day drum corps. Hopefully you will try and give the activity one more chance. There are a few shows this year that are very "fan-friendly" and have pretty "old-school" show designs. Try to check these out, and maybe you'll find things you like!
