  1. How quickly we forget... This is the same design staff (for the most part) that brought us 2010-2013. Personally, I really liked this year's show, as did many others. If you were one of those that didn't like this year, hang in there. Don't be so quick to overhaul a staff, especially one with so much talent.
  2. It is funny how all the people talking about placements and complaining that the Scouts aren't placing well never mentioned that the Scouts hornline tied Carolina Crown in the achievement sub caption last night... Pretty impressive if you ask me.
  3. Yeah, but his comment was about design team. There are lots of alums on instructional staff now.
  4. It is not a matter of right or wrong. It is that the posts are extremely negative, not accomplishing anything, and once you have said something once, does it really need to be said again (or in this case, many, many more times)? Piling on negativity is not doing anyone any good. Personally, I like this year's show.
  5. Yeah, it does seem as if you don't have anything else to say. Ironically, it seems you have a very large number of posts on the subject.
  6. Don't speak for all of us! I have talked to a lot of alumni that don't care or are in favor of the rule change and only a few that are upset. MYNWA
  7. They also didn't do 4 weeks of everydays followed by 8 weeks of touring.
  8. Video of some of the alumni from the performance...
  9. Hi all, it has been a while since I posted, but I figured there might be some people that want to hear about a fundraising opportunity that I created with the help of the brewery that I work at. We have been trying to raise money to send me to a formal brewing school and we are currently raising funds through Indiegogo. One of our donation options is at the $500 level, we will brew a small batch of beer of the donators choice. That beer will be sold in our taproom and all the profits from that small batch will be given to a non-profit organization of the donator's choice. Profits from the small batch are typically $1,000. All of that $1,000 would be donated to a non-profit organization of your choice (in this case a drum corps). If anyone is interested in hearing more about this, please send me a PM and I can provide greater detail. The reason I wanted to include this donation option in our campaign was originally so that I could try to help support the Madison Scouts, but this donation option is available to anyone that wants to take advantage of this opportunity. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/send-weedy-to-brewing-school/x/3395491
  10. Who is it rude to? The drum majors don't care and I would venture to say most of us like that they stand by their tradition. There are a lot of traditions in drum corps that could easily be taken as rude and annoying... Like when a corps is walking down a street and passersby have to wait until the entire corps is passed to get to the other side of the sidewalk because members refuse to break rank. There is no real purpose for that in today's world, but corps continue to do so. Should that go away? I don't think so.
  11. It is a tradition for them and I would hope that they continue to do it.
  12. I think last year, some of the Troopers staff told the DM to speed it up a little bit... Before going on the field for scores, we would always joke with him and tell him he needed to get in the back. Some show coordinators were really strict about order, and some just left it up to the drum majors to get in a line and they left it up to us to decide how we would stand... We all tried to make sure we weren't behind him, but it was more of a funny thing for us. Not a real annoyance. I think in 2010 we had a show where all the DM's had a competition to see who could go the slowest. Usually going off the field, we all just went our separate ways, so it wasn't a rude thing to just go around. I know that as a drum major of another corps, I never ACTUALLY minded that the Troopers moved so slow, but we did joke like we cared.
  13. Looking for a good seat, let me know what you've got.
  14. I am glad to know that no members made this meme. I know they have more class than that.
  15. Not with that attitude. Luckily for us, that is not the attitude of this corps.
  16. I was really just being facetious. '08 was my rookie year at Madison. Very proud of my brothers and I am feeling good about what they are doing this year. Keep it up men!
  17. I think you're thinking of 2008, but the crowd loved it.
  18. I do not know if this is still the case, but when I was at JSU in 2008, the Southerners had somewhere around 80-85 drum corps members.
  19. It is unfair to insinuate that this is a G8 problem. At a meeting before finals, a director of a G8 corps requested to all the directors that the colors be treated correctly and he went out of his way to insure that the paths of the corps did not cross in front of the honor guards. Being a patriotic military brat, I appreciated this director for requesting that everyone get it right. Thank you David Gibbs!
  20. 1989 (Les Miserables). I work for Robert's wife's marching band and have been around Robert quite a bit as a result. His arrangements/compositions are incredible and I am very excited to have him on our staff. I also know that Robert has loved the Madison Scouts and before he ever got the call from Jim Mason, he told me how much he loved the direction the corps is going and talked about how this last season brought back memories from the years that he loved most. I remember in 2009 when he came and watched rehearsal and he knew a good amount of Scouts history (Beyond what is common knowledge). Robert is a very welcome addition to the Madison Scouts!
