    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps...... PLEASE HELP and SHARE!!!!

    On January 21st a major blow was struck to a non-profit youth group when robbers stole roughly $25,000 worth of equipment. The robbers rented a storage unit at A-American self storage in Santa Fe Springs, California. On January 21st they entered their unit and closed the door concealing their work. Using hammers, they broke through the walls of their rented unit to raid 6 adjoining units in order to steal the contents. Upon entering Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps storage unit, they found 2 thump subwoofers, 2 Mackie SP1530s, 1 Yamaha 32 channel mixer, 3 Adams timpani, a djembe, a Remo bass drum and a haul of miscellaneous percussion hardware. They returned later in the evening, cutting the lock on Impulse’s storage unit in order to load the large equipment into their vehicles and fled the scene. Police are currently investigating the robbery.

    Since 1999 Impulse Drum and Bugle corps has provided a safe, fun, youth centered summer marching experience to students ranging from ages 14 to 21. They are a 501c3 non-profit and most of their staff and support are volunteers. They have traveled the nation competing in Drum Corps International, obtaining many awards and a national championship in 2006. Impulse has served thousands of talented young musicians in its 20 years of existence.

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps is a relatively small musical group every piece of equipment plays an important role. Aaron Zeilinger is an Alumni of the organization and currently serves as the Director. He has this to say about the incident, “The current Impulse family will be hit hard by this loss. The equipment that was stolen we were working on selling to support our members and repair some needed items in the corps. As with all trials, I know the Impulse family will come together and we will make sure our 2019 members will still have an educational, exciting and zany experience this summer.”

    Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps will do the best it can to raise the funds for the missing equipment but they need a little assistance.     Impulse Experience and Audition Weekend

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps is proud to announce our Impulse Experience and Audition Weekend Saturday December 8th and Sunday December 9th, 2018 at Westminster High School.  This is a great opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of being a part of a DCI drum corps.  We will have our staff on hand and lunch is provided on both days.

    We Need More Open Class Shows in California

    When I told my husband that SCVC and BDB were not leaving California he suggested DCI should try to host more Open Class Shows in California.  There are a lot of areas that do not have any drum corps shows at all such as Ventura County/San Fernando Valley, the San Luis Obispo area and other parts of the state.  I guess DCI could have to see if this is feasible however the activity would get more exposure and the open class members would get more opportunities to perform.  Maybe this is just wishing thinking on his part.

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps 2018

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps had a great start to the upcoming 2018 season at our open house with 124 participants.  We had a large turnout of brass and guard along with a full drum line.   In addition there were 34 parents.

    Today was a first step towards a very successful 20th anniversary season.

    Its not too late.  Our January 2018 schedule is Sundays January 14, 21, 28, 2018 at Bell Gardens High School in Bell Gardens, CA.  Check in begins at 9:30am.  Come on by to have a great drum corps experience.

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the appointment of two new directors to lead us into our 20th anniversary 2018 season.

    Mr. Raymond A. Santos, Corps Director

    Ray has a long history of association with Impulse serving in various capacities including director, visual caption head, among others.  Ray has always been a willing volunteer and will serve the organization well as the new director.

     Mr. Aaron Zelinger, Assistant Corps Director

    Aaron is  a former alumni of Impulse and has volunteered in various capacities for the organization as needed.  Aaron is currently Director of Instrumental Music at Orange Lutheran High School.

    Both Ray and Aaron have the vision to lead our corps into the future.

    Mr. Mike Lopez will continue to serve the corps as Executive Director and President of the Board of Directors.

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps Open House

    After a very successful open house, Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps is looking forward to a great 2017 season.



    To get started, Impulse will be holding workshops on December 11th and January 14th and 15th. Preliminary auditions will be held during the workshop on January 15th, followed by a full weekend of auditions on January 21st and 22nd. For all participants and prospective members, there is a corps registration fee of $85 required. The registration fee also allows you to participate in any one, or all, of these dates.



    Registration starts at 9:30 each day with workshops and auditions from 10:00am-4:00pm

    *Lunch will be offered for $5 per day or $20 for all five days if you pre-pay

    OPEN HOUSE DATE ANNOUNCED

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps will be holding its annual Open House on Sunday November 6th, 2016 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM. Check in is 11:30AM. All those interested in marching with Impulse in 2017 this is a great time to meet with the staff and management of the organization and learn what it takes to become a member.

    The Open House will take place at Bellflower High School located at 15301 McNab Ave, Bellflower, CA 90706.

    Information about workshops, auditions and the upcoming 2017 tour will be discussed. Bring your friends and begin planning for a summer to remember.

    2016 saw Impulse returning to the national stage, and the fans all over the Midwest gave them a great reception. Performances were from California, to Wisconsin, to Pennsylvania, and ending at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Impulse entertained the greatest fans in all of drum corps, and next summer is already shaping up to be even better.

    The administration already in the planning stages for the 2017 season, and you need to come out and be part of Impulse. Our open house will be coming in November, so watch here for an announcement for the exact date, time, and location. Open house is your first step to a great summer.

    Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps will do a national tour through the upper mid-west and Great Lakes area including competing in the Open Class Championships in Michigan City.



    If you are still looking for a place to march this summer, Impulse does have a few positions available in the brass, guard, and front ensemble. Come to our next rehearsal on Saturday May 21th and Sunday May 22nd from 9 am to 6pm at Marina High School in Huntington Beach.     As Impulse prepares for our 18th competitive season this summer of 2016 we are looking to fill a few open spots. Front ensemble, guard, and brass spots are still available.     What Corps, Other Than......

    My husband's cousin was a member of the Commodore Perry Scouts during the early 60's. His family used to refer to them as the Koyasan because they were a Boy Scout troop affiliated with the Koyasan Buddhist Temple.

    My favorite non top 12 corps is of course Impulse especially 2006. Charlie Groh was the executive director and took a corps with only 22 horns and 56 total members and won the Division III title that year.

    Impulse Youth Arts Organization announces the first Winter Workshop will take place Sunday January 11, 2015 from 10am to 4pm at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, CA. By attending the Impulse workshops, you will not only audition for the our upcoming 17th season, you will also have the opportunity to experience and learn the skills necessary to perform at the higher levels required to participate in the drum & bugle corps activity.

    If you are involved with band, color guard or percussion we want everyone to attend and experience what it could be like to be part of this fun activity. Attend the workshops and learn how you can be a part of the fun in 2015.

    There is a $50 workshop fee which will cover all of the workshops and auditions.

    Impulse Youth Arts Organization announces that it will hold their second open house on Sunday December 14th 2014 from 10am to 3 pm at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, CA. All are welcome to stop by and learn about the upcoming 2015 drum corps season. Members of the corps management and staff will be on hand to answer any questions regarding membership, becoming a volunteer and plans for the 2015 tour.

    Impulse is known for entertaining audiences with appealing performances that engage the senses and what continues to make them a fan favorite. Attend the open house and learn how you can be a part of the fun with our 17th season.
