What if... Move in - June 1 (regulated, like MLB spring training) Finals - 1st weekend in August EVERYONE: 2 weeks for pre-tour... Tour: Regionalized... Less shows. Only do performances with 8+ corps in appearances. Shows on weekends ONLY (Friday - Sunday). Conferences: Pacific Conference (Blue Devils, SCV, Cascades, Pacific Crest, Oregon Crusaders, Mandarins), Midwest Conference (Phantom Regiment, Cavaliers, Bluecoats, Colts, Pioneer, Madison Scouts, Blue Stars), Eastern Conference (Boston Crusaders, Cadets, Carolina Crown, Jersey Surf, Spirit of Atlanta), Southern Conference (The Academy, Blue Knights, Crossmen, Troopers)... These would divide World Class, and Open Class corps. Tour Schedule: JUNE 1 - JUNE 14: Pre-tour (spring training or whatever you call it) JUNE 15 - 28 (depending on the calendar, next 2 weekends): Weekend shows at regionalized stadiums for each conference. (ex. Southern Conference 1st weekend: Friday - Houston, TX, Saturday - Dallas, TX, Sunday - Phoenix, AZ)... Only featuring that region’s corps. JUNE 29 - JULY 15: Allentown weekend (East & Midwest Corps), Denver weekend (Western & Southern corps)... Make one weekend huge drum corps festival. Similar to what they did with extra encore performances with TOC this year. JULY 16 - AUG 1: Move towards Indianapolis. Weekend prior to Finals, have a 2 day prelims/ finals event at UW-Madison, Murfreesboro, TN, or somewhere that could hold this event. Finals still in Lucas Oil Stadium. 2 day event. Semi-Finals (Top 20 from previous weekend’s prelims) play, then top 12 in Saturday night finals.

Man, I hope not. I genuinely liked all shows of the Top 4. I haven't felt that way in a LONG time. People really liked this version of Vanguard. Maybe this could be there niche' for the next few years.

Environmental demands were a big part of Fanfare for the Common Man in 2012

The corps that pay the staff the most aren't necessarily the top competing groups. It's not quite like the NFL where a caption head is looking to jump to wherever he is going to get the biggest paycheck. A big part of what makes a staff successful is the compatibility, cohesiveness, and "the hang"... If a staff has the same vision and enjoys being with each other on/ off the field, it can go a long way into keeping great people at the same drum corps. Much like why a member might stay at a corps. Also, some groups (BD, Cadets, Crown, SCV, Colts?) are much larger organizations than drum corps. They are complete organizations that have the goal of enhancing music education in their area YEAR ROUND, not just through a summer drum corps. They do marching band clinics, winterguard shows, concert band clinics, etc. They are also the store for all things marching arts in their area. The success of these groups is something to celebrate.

How many corps actually march 150 total members at the end of the season? I know that some of the larger "Top 6" corps get there, but some other smaller groups still compete with them and have half the size. Does anyone know: 1) Which corps march 150 and which ones try to go for a more "attainable" number 2) What is the size of the World Class hornlines? Is 72 pretty much the standard number?

The food at the concessions was very good... I had nachos with chili and cheese. A couple of my buddies had the turkey leg.

I love this music, but not on the field. There is a reason that most of this stuff has been unsuccessful in the marching activity, when it has even been attempted. Some pieces should stay in the concert band setting... All of these fall in that category :(

Allentown is a great time regardless of seating. I have been in the center as well as off to the side. It is always a great experience no matter what. I really think anyone that is a drum corps fan needs to be there for the weekend at least once. I always got that it was a special place when I was a marching member, but going back since aging out has been a great way to open my eyes to what else is encompassed there. The fact that you can almost walk to Cadets, Crown, and a couple corps rehearsals is a big plus. The crowds are always a good size for their ensembles. Once you get to the show, the warm up areas are so beautiful and open. It really reminds me of kind of "The Masters" or the "Indianapolis 500" of drum corps. That in addition to the Ham Fam, Yocco's, and Lupo's is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience :)

I have to agree with MarchingXylo. Crown may sound great, but Bluecoats show is the total package. They are simply on a different level than anyone else. I expect to see the Bluecoats blow by Crown in the next week or two.

Whenever I marched, there were certain times we had to wear shirts during the summer. Usually we were required to wear them inside schools (not too big of a deal). Sometimes if we were doing a clinic or something, we had to put them on so we looked "presentable". I've also been in situations where the housing site we've stayed at required that we wore them. One of my friends marched Madison '05 and he told me that their Finals housing site required them to wear shirts :( Anyway, have any of you had to deal with this during the summer? I know it sounds kind of trivial, but this is the sort of things that we'd get really upset about during tour.

A lot has transpired in the past couple weeks and months with drum corps. Many corps have posted video and audio clips, while still a couple have remained silent about their 2010 production plans. We are now entering the part of the year that the corps begin their move-ins. I think we are less than a month away from the first show! Given all of your current information and opinions regarding the 2010 corps, what are your picks?

Someone has already said this, but Crossmen 04 was a fantastic ballad. Maybe not a Top 6 corps, but this ballad is a tear jerker. Fire of Eternal Glory is also a favorite :)

Yeah, I'm definitely still going to say no way. Finish school and get a job. Boom.

I am going to second others by saying SHAPIRO'S DELI. It is literally right next to Lucas Oil Stadium and if you like NY style deli food, this is one of the best in the mid-west. I would recommend the Corned Beef sandwich with a side of German potato salad. It is fantastic!
