  1. History History History...Can we cool it already!?! These post about the lack of "history and tradition" of the corps are ridiculous. The tradition is still there. Who is the focus composer of the 2012 show? Ummmm yes Americana. 2011? Yes Americana. 2010? Yes Americana. 2009? Yes Americana. 2008? Yes Americana. Uniforms...Yes they are tweeked but fit the tradition.
  2. Mr. Tom Brace, When is the last time you viewed this show? If you have not witnessed the program "Wanted" post San Antonio, I believe your opinion perhaps may be a bit distorted . Please revisit this program post "Texas Swing" and feel free to discuss your "boredom." Thank you for your thread and discussion.
  3. And Teal Sound is an OPEN CLASS CORPS.
  4. I find it to be quite simple.........As I have said for years, if a particular corps does not attend ALL DCI Sanctioned Regionals you forfit your World Class Status, and should be categorized as an Open Class Status Corp. The following definitions are provided by DCI on their site: World Class corps can have up to 150 members. Students in World Class corps are primarily college-age with some high school involvement. Most corps from this class follow an intensive tour schedule, traveling more than 10,000 miles over the course of the summer while performing at more than 35 sanctioned events. Open Class corps have a minimum of 30 members up to a maximum of 150. Most Open Class corps will follow an abbreviated tour schedule compared to World Class corps with memberships made up of a mixture of high school and some college-aged students. Bottom Line-The corps in question should be competing at the Open Class Level. This would end all discussion of regional placement factoring into quaterfinal line-ups. Corps that compete on abbreviated schedules should not be able to maintain the same status as those fulfilling World Class Corps contributions to the DCI activity. IF YOU WANT TO BE A BIG TIME CORPS, PUT FORTH A BIG TIME TOUR. ENOUGH SAID.
  5. Dude, You missed the frickin point here......I am not suggesting that DCI would be more successful with fewer Division I corps. What I am saying is that if a corps competes regionally then they should compete at a Division II/III level. I am all for Division I corps.....I sat through years of Division I (Open) shows at Whitewater, Allentown, and Madison and loved every minute of it. This activity needs all of the Division I corps it can get its hands on. I can't wait for VK, Capital and Magic to rejoin the ranks of Division I. On that note, please reread my post in regard to the subject of the origial topic.
  6. Yes, Troop was screwed BIG TIME on the number sheet! How about slotting the so-called Division I Corps that don't complete a full summer tour first in the time slots.......... If a corps does not compete at all regionals, then they should be slotted first on. Not performing at regionals early in the year certainly assisted those who did not compete in Allentown and Atlanta. If you want to compete regionally-join Division II/III!!! To the Troop members on the field-one of the most entertaining shows of the year. Thanks for keeping DCI unique in style, programming, and presentation for an old school guy like myself. Here is to an outstanding 2008 and beyond. And by the way Happy 50th Anniversary! Great Job!
  7. You are right on Granny-I think the 78 Troop received this week in Hutchinson is far more accurate opposed to the 73.5 last night........I have seen every Division I corps this year and I have to say that Crown, Troop, and the Colts are all that is RIGHT about Drum Corps International. From an old-school guy who is becoming an endangered species in this activity, thank you Crown, Colts and Troop for giving us wonderful, wonderful programs.
  8. The above rationale from a Cadets fan who just saw the scores last night from Coats and Crown get a lot closer to the "Holy Name" at the top..........
  9. bluecoats88- I am right with you on the "west coast" inflation. in the past, corps (especially midpack corps 12-17) have seemed to be scoring big-time numbers out west, then come east, and all of the sudden reality sets in........
  10. Troopers with 12 Contas/Tubas, and the entire corps looking bad###!
  11. So many to choose from.............Tough Choices 1. Madson Scouts 1988 Kansas City: Just a magical performance-anyone who was there understands. Malaguena was just unreal-what a sound. 2. Phantom Regiment 1992 Madison: Maybe the best 2nd Place performance EVER. 1992 was an incredible year for DCI in Madison. 3. 27th Lancers 80's Allentown: Danny Boy. Any year. Doesn't matter. Enough said. 4. Boston Crusaders 80's Allentown: Conquest. See Above. 5. Cadets 1990 Buffalo: Z Pull at the end of the show-end zone to end zone. Being at field level, hearing the wall of sound, turning around and seeing the crowd go nuts.
  12. Come On Folks-This is a No Brainer! Troopers were out of the loop for a year bankrupt, and previously struggling in the low 20 positions. All of the sudden the 2007 edition is hitting the ground running with a design team that has top 5 credentials in Thrower, Rogers and Rarick (Bluecoats). Throw in a program consultant that is a legend (Koter), and you have the best new staff in DCI! Troopers Troopers Troopers!!!
