' Just got back from Fort Myers, Florida showing........about 2rds full.....Sound definately not surround sound, nor Dolby.......Still loved the shows though despite this......Quick snapshots......Mellophone line of Star unreal. This Corps was ahead of it's time. 'Difficult charts played well.......27th Guard especially rifles, got some oohs and ahhs. Music easy, but entertaining........BD, Madison Concerts are simply treasures......George Zingalli was a Genius......BAC 's show looked better to me now,than in 2000. Liked them a lot.......Cadets show much better 2nd half than ist half. Not my favorite Cadets show though. Not sure how this one made it to the screen compared to several other years that would have been my choice.......Phantom's opening that year is a masterpeice.......Spirit had a better drum line than I remember them having, because their music and horn line was their calling card that year......Anaheim Kingsmen also had a terriific guard that I forgot about. Loved the high leg marching these guys did.......VK was a hoot, they had some talent to pull it off too......SCV had the entire package in 89, with a story line that everybody could relate too.......Madison's 75 Corps will be shown in 2030, and it will still be entertaining and timeless......Cavies have taken the activity to visual heights never before seen. Amazing talent across the board.That said, when Cesario (,the announcer), tells me that the Cavies music that year had "to be seen " to be fully appreciated, well that tells me that the music that year could not stand on it's own for many people, as well conceived, and executed as it was......Love their drum charts though......All in all, this was enjoyable nite..... wished the Bridgemen, Muchachoes were shown tonite. They should have been.....If the younger kids have never seen the Bridgemen, and the Muchachoes, they are missing 2 corps that were as entertaining in their own special and unique way as anything I saw up on that screen tonite..... it's getting late,' have to go.....thank you DCI for a great concept, and lets do something like this every year in the off season.

As for the guys review, which I had no problems with, maybe all reviewers in the future when reviewing a show should simply mention any corps in their review that they have ever been afilliated with in the past in any capacity. That way, people can evaluate the review in that context. It's just good form to do so, in my opinion.

Cadets came within a whisker of beating Cavaliers at Finals ( less than .2 tenths), to secure 2nd place, so they were right there in terms of performance. I enjoyed the Corps a lot this year, but feel RPH, and Melaguena just didn't fit smoothly.

Phantom appeared to be on this night. By the way, did any of the DCI clips have any other Corps final ending passages ? It seems the clips of the other corps were mostly non ending passages.

Yes, I understood the context that the show coordinator was trying to convey to the crowd with the theme, and the Cavies Guard uniforms were an attempt to fit that theme. But it didn't work for me even in that context. They were simply godawful. But that's just my opinion.

I did not think it would happen, but I actually found a person who said he really liked the Cavaliers Color Guard uniforms. There's lots of good things I can say about the Cavaliers, but those ugly greenies with the numbers and knee pads arn't one of them for me. But that's why savvy ice cream stores carry 20 or more kinds of ice cream. To each his own !

The scores may be right or wrong, but the Crossmen have never left me with the the feeling that I didn't get my money's worth. The Crossmen bleed drum Corps entertainment with this poster. I am not alone. Hope the brass arranger above doesn't change a thing with what he is doing with the Crossmen music arrangements in the future. He should be very proud of his work. It is first rate in entertainment value, and his kids really get into it and enjoy it. That's more than enough for me.

That was a fun review . The Cavaliers guard uniforms are definately one of the very worst guard uniforms ever put on the field by a corps in my opinion. What were they thinking ? Geez, they are so bad that they are becoming an embarrassment and it detracts from an otherwise terrific Corps. Are there people out there that think this guard uniform is cool , neat, awesome, visually appealing, fits the Corps image, or compliments the show theme etc ,or helps the Corps in any way whatsoever ? How so ? Just curious.

Not sure what the phrase " the design of the show was not very well demonstrated on the field " means .( review on Boston ).

For every person that thought that the cadets show was " exploitive " last year there were hundreds that thought this New Jersey based corps that practices within eyesight of the ground zero area that used to house the Twin Towers, had just the perfect blend of respect and admiration in their patriotic theme based show. I am a veteran, and all the veterans and their families and friends ( about 200 or so )that gathered last year at the American Legion Post in Beverly Mass, after the Beverly Cardinals Alumni sponsored DCI Drum Corps show (many of whom marched drum corps ) loved the Cadets show to a person. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I like that idea. Kids who are standouts get Hall of Fame consideration. The only problem I see is that for every performer selected as deserving ,many others who are equally deserving , are left out. Some outstanding performers in DIV. II,III might also not get the proper exposure that would put them in deserved consideration either. But a good suggestion nonetheless.

Very enjoyable solo. Terrific quality in the sound, and it just flowed so well. Memorable soloist for his Corps.

Machine : Does this mean that they won't be selling the 2002 CD at the Cavaliers Souvie stand because ,as you said ",the Cavies show was not designed for CD ". Maybe they should put warning labels on them then.

Thanks for the review. It was well done. As for the Cavaliers, we congratulate them. They had no real competitive rival this year. You mentioned that the Sondheim's musical as performed by the Cavies this year, should not " be taken out of it's context { visual component }. I assume then that we all should not purchase the Cavaliers CD this year, and simply pony up for the DVD ?

Yea, your right, the Cadets and BD are getting robbed. I know the scores have been so, so close. I think after 25 different sets of judges, who all obviously think that the Cavaliers are just a little bit better right now, that it is far from a robbery. It's funny when a persons favorite corps or corps's are not winning. It is always hiway robbery......get over it!! What is a judges show? Do you mean a show that is cohesive and might be a total package from a judges standpoint? And I guess if some of the fans don't like the show, it is no good and the show that the fans like should win? Oh, o.k, now I get it.... Whoa !. Lighten up.!. It was his opinion O.K. Lots of people have different ideas about a Corps show. Just Yesterday, someone posted that they were " bored by the Cadets and Cavies, but loved the Glassmen......". That's fine too. Just relax.

I enjoy reading all the reviews. Cody, your review was certainly one of the best yet. I also liked the " high point.....low point ". Your review was also telling us what was working technically, and what was connecting with you emotionally. All around great job!. Please post a review again in the future !
