  1. Just to clarify, these virtual shows are not broadcasted at all... they are just sent to the judges to get our commentary and scored.  Last year it was great to be able to have a "show/read/score" without the 6-10 hours travel that comes with it, they just continued it without having to have multiple cameras set up to send to Box 5 for Broadcast.

Rogues Hollow has some serious trumpet screamers.

Horns take a break and the percussion takes center stage.

    Thanks Gadget!

Ahh, I see. The DMs are Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Jive, respectively.

Second movement is Since I Fell For You, 1988 BD closer. Since it’s not RHR’s closer, I’m guessing no curtain call.

    Wait for it...

And there’s our curtain call! Complete with trumpet screamer section at the end.

My favorite part of the show for sure! Nice twist to delay the curtain call! Happy to be standing up front with the others laying it down. (Did you catch the hidden tribute as well?)

Hope to catch up soon, maybe at the Avon Lake show?

Trying to create a Bb K20?

Nope - I own an Andalucia Bb ... I like that for my Bb needs (my once a year College Marching Band alumni parade).

  4. Just looking to see if anyone has a K20 that would be for sale that could be used as parts.

I am looking in particular for a K20 bell in good shape, and would like to find one that has a broken set of valve/lead pipe that the bell would be perfectly used as a spare part to be used in a project. I do not really want to destroy a perfect K20... but someone out there has to have one that is not playable, but the bell would be acceptable.

If it all works perfectly, I could use a handful of bells to continue the process of this project.

    Thanks in advance!

Depends on if you wanna talk DCI or include DCA in that. Last corps to win with G horns was Cincinnati Tradition in 2016. I believe Erie Thunderbirds still use G as well.

Correct - we are still playing our G bugles.

Columbus Saints and Southern Knights are also on G's as well.

The first competitor were the Erie Thunderbirds, marching about 40 total members, a bit down from last season, but the quality of who they have I think makes up for this. The program's a straight up fire-themed one, with solid choices- the main body of the show is from the classic Kenton album 'Cuban Fire', the title piece and" La Suerte de los Tontos"  with the Finale from Stravinsky's "Firebird" wrapping up the presentation.

The thing that really surprised me about the arrangements was that they clew very closely to the original Johnny Richards/Juan Cascales arrangements in their harmonic structure- they're not the usual take based on Downey's interpretation in that aspect. There were some spots I expected corps director Sean Bartlett's arrangement to take some cuts and back off, but the corps goes there- and they will get it there. The show takes a lot of opportunities to showcase a lot of young and solid talent, which is also a plus. The show's got everyone deeply involved at some point. Serious channeling of Sammy Noto from the Sopranos and Carl Fontana from a fine young Bari soloist (playing a solo that may give him carpal tunnel, the fingerings are really obtuse...) are going to really shine once the reps kick in and the corps can perform with consistency and relaxed confidence.

The corps has spent the last couple of weeks pressing hard to finish the program, a lot of fast learning took place, which was new for several of them, but they held up well in front of the packed stands. Again, more reps, just finding that comfort zone and consistency- I firmly believe the T-Birds will be in the hunt for a finalist spot if they keep grinding and applying themselves. Class A will be a fight this season, and people had better show up early at prelims to watch it. I think the most compelling and gutsy performances may well be out of A since half the field is fighting for a top 4 spot. Assumptions in A in previous years that certain teams have a lock have proven to be wrong, anything can and will happen.

Thanks for the shout out BigW - and thanks for bringing snacks and refreshments for the corps! We truly appreciate it (especially the Donald Duck OJ!) Hope to see you again this summer!

While I liked Erie Thunderbirds' show a lot, I don't actually know what they were playing.

It's not on DCX (formerly Corpsreps) and it wasn't in the program book, I think.

    Does anyone know?

Well, the minicorps event has been shrinking sadly.  I think 2005 was the last time (or one of) that it was its own event.  There was something like 14 minicorps or something.  That was a good time!  Combined Battle Hymn...

It's just not the same anymore.

I believe 2014 has 11 corps, which was a big growth from Annapolis in 13.

Mini is an awesome way to get some newer groups involved and possibly help get them to a Class A status possibly, if they're looking to expand.

That was exactly what we did - we knew it would be a good step in the right direction.

In all seriousness, I can't wait for this event!

  10. The Erie Thunderbirds are looking to add a few Brass to complete our 2017 hornline. We are looking for 3 sopranos (trumpet), 1 Euphonium, and 1 Contra (tuba). We are starting drill this weekend, so now is the time to jump in!

Contact our Director, Sean Bartlett (SBartlett@eriethunderbirds.org), or fill out an interest form on our website (www.eriethunderbirds.org) if interested!!

  11. What exactly, is on the garbage plate? I saw a photo and I'm not sure my stomach is up to the task. :-D

Usually it is a mix of two sides :potato products (home fries/french fries), macaroni salad, baked beans (not my preference) with the meat of your choice covered it "Hot Sauce", onions, and mustard. You can skip the things you don't like.. but I thought it sounded gross until I actually had a chance to eat one.

  12. There was a 20-minute delay in the show (which wasn't communicated to the warm-up area, but I digress) which I was told was due to a few of Sky Alumni's members needing assistance in the heat during or after the performance . If true, I hope everyone was ok...

The heat was truly brutal, and I hope as well that all members are OK from Saturday.

I think the 20 min delay came from the time blocks for the show only being 17 minutes, when trooping the stands, pits setting up etc are not included in the 17 minute block allowed by DCA to being on the field to start and crossing the endzone line at the end. I think we were only delayed a few minutes, and it just slowly added up as it went to the later corps with it being a larger show.
