What a rediculous thread. You don't like dynamics, you don't like amps, you don't like Bbs. How about taking into account how much easier it is for corps to get replacement instruments nowadays as opposed to bugles. How much easier it is for a kid who played in marching band to play in drum corps now. How much this is also a MUSICAL activity and last time I checked, music involved things like dynamics and not just playing loud. But hey you are entitled to what you like. Good thing any of that will be happen anytime soon. -
Nor does the narration they used that didn't work for YOU equate to something that "doesn't work."

OH I'm sorry, I was there Saturday night and there weren't a lot of people there "sitting on their hands" as you would put it..at least where I was sitting anyways.

Using 2007 The Cadets as an introductory tool
2000Cadet replied to drumcat's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
If you think his statements were disrespectful, condescending and almost demoralizing, you should have seen what was on here while you were on tour. You know your show was great so you don't need to feed into his statements. Trust me, I have learned the hard way about defending The Cadets passionately this past summer. So sometimes you just have to ignore statements like those. You guys had a great show, and as long as you know it and enjoyed marching it, and will enjoy watching it on the DVD, that's all that counts. -
I don't really know much about Ticheli. I hope Cadets 2008 turns out to be a great year for them though.

You should say what "some" newcomers think of the show. I invited a few people over to my place to watch the ESPN broadcast of finals and I also had some videos of the show that was posted on the internet so they could see the entire show. The reception of the show was 50/50, and of the half that didn't like a lot of the show, they did think the kids were great as far as the marching and the playing went. So not ALL newcomers think the show was terrible. -
Rediculous? I think not. Cadets had a show that did reach the performance level of BD's, but just didn't have what it took to win the title. BD was really clean but Cadets could have definitely overtaken them. Phantom had a great show but I really wasn't out of my seat for it. Nevertheless, they had a great show. Cavies, I liked some parts of their show, but some parts I didn't. The guard was on fire though.

Thanks for the clarification because I have to admit that I read some of your posts and I really wanted to reply negatively to them. But I am glad to see you are classy enough to apologize for some of the things you've said. Have a good night.

You can expect that she will be a real hard-###, but that's what makes her guard so freaking great (and she is funny as ####!!!). Good Luck!! -
Crown vs. Bluecoats in ‘07
2000Cadet replied to glory's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
From seeing each show all three nights, I just have to say I think Crown was more of a favorite for me as opposed to Bluecoats because Crown's show was more entertaining. The main thing that sold me was Crown's hornline. That huge hit in the beginning was one of the best hits I have heard from a drum corps in a while. Bluecoats' show was excellent, but Crown did a better job in my opinion of selling it. And I hear some people saying that Crown's "horse racing" was kind of cheesy. I beg to differ. I think that added to the show concept. There were people sitting near me who thought Bluecoats simulation of the Bank robbery with the laser traps were cheesy, but as with Crown's horses, it added to their show concept as well and made the show more entertaining. So all in all, I just think Crown had the better show even though the scores were mighty close. Good thing the scores are out three decimal places or I think there would have been a four-way tie for fourth place.... :) -
Crown 2007 - Not sure of the name All time favorite: Cadets 1998 - Canterbury Chorale I don't think any other ballad will EVER top Canterbury Chorale for me. You can just feel, hear and see the beauty in it. I get goosebumps everytime I hear the climax.

####, it sure didn't take long for this thread to turn ugly. -
Oh whatever.

I have been wondering about this for a while. What is the criteria for becoming a judge? How do you become a Brass Judge, Drum Judge, Visual Judge, etc.? I think it would be cool to become a judge, especially being on the field in front of the kids and feeling the emotion of a show. Any ideas anyone?

What makes kids choose a Corps?
2000Cadet replied to Piper's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Well, for me, it was all about the style of the corps. I had always wanted to march Cadets but didn't feel I had the physical or mental strength to do it at the time I wanted. So I marched other corps to build myself up to Cadet level. Jersey Surf was mainly for the location since I grew up in Jersey. Crossmen to me was the next logical choice because I fell in love with their shows (especially 1997). So eventually I went to Cadets because of the marching, the music, the style, the tradition. I am sure I don't speak for all people but some kids probably chose a certain corps for some of the same reasons. -

Well yeah. I am not an idiot. Of course it's gonna happen. But like I said, I really don't want it to happen... ...and Bob Barker can't be replaced... -

I certainly hope not. Then what would you guys have to complain about? :P Also, I can't even imagine The Cadets without Hoppy. He's been there for so long, made so many positive impacts on the Drum Corps organization (contrary to popular belief), and has helped to give many kids the opportunity of a lifetime. -
So what do we want the cadets to be?
2000Cadet replied to Rounder's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Jesus Christ..here's to another Cadets-bashing thread. I want the Cadets to continue rattling the bones of almost everyone like they've been doing for the past what, 20 years now? No matter what they do, not everyone will be satisfied. Here's to 2008. See you guys next summer. -

Of course you'd mention three corps that stood out; mention the good things in two of them and get to the Cadets and totally blast them. Thanks for your subjective post.
