  2. Great stuff W....wish you were at every show! Love your passion and insight as well as your understanding of what goes into crafting a show and whether it's working or not. I respectfully disagree with your assessment of the Tbone as to its place in the activity. It may well add an element otherwise unachievable but then so would 24 violins....the activity I fell in love with was DRUM & BUGLE CORPS! As a traditionalist, I miss the sound and personality of of the activity that once was...the uniqueness is gone, we're now band aficionados.
  3. "Hurricanes' featured soloist, Rich Yelnick, is absolutely terrific. The guy nails everything!!! I wish more DCA corps would feature their top player(s) a bit more.. it's been one of the strengths of all-age corps for decades. For a corps that was supposed to be all but dead a few months ago... well... the Hurricanes are very much alive and kicking. I have long since learned my lesson to never count them out." Fran, your comments on Yelinek are spot on.....He's been featured as a premier soloist for the Hurcs for over thirty years, dating back to 1981! It seems amiss that the Buglers Hall of Fame hasn't taken notice of his body of work yet. The Hurricanes are alive, working hard and having fun!
  4. Hey Big John...the Hurcs have to be in there somewhere!
  5. Still checking in....too bad it's so hard to post a pic*^$##$$%$%&@@%%!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I'm pretty sure it's July 4th.....Don't go by the DCA site...it's far from accurate or complete! Barnum centers on the 4th so anything past the 6th would be way late. I just read an archived article from the Bpt. Post reporting that all 5 corps marched in the Great Street Parade that same morning.
  7. Also 1970 Barnum was July 4th....Hurcs, Sky, Bucs, Sun and Cabs
  8. Anyone would certainly remember Angelo...he was ALWAYS smiling....RIP

  10. Go Sky....Those new unis are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Last year....Hurcs beat Bush at Barnum, Gran Prix and Kingston.....Bush bested Hurcs in Scranton, Fanfare and at the Championships......should be an interesting year!
  12. I woulda thought Sun was still in their Cadet uni's in 72".....am I wrong?
  13. I was never high enough to view it from that perspective!
  14. Good points, however, I'm not so sure the Alumni & I&E events can't stand on their own. Look at Plymouth, it's doing just fine every year, and it's held in November! It's a two day event with a show and parade...add in the I&E and such a weekend could be cultivated into a sucess. As for the off weekend. It certainly shouldn't be mandatory for anyone. But there are surely enough hard core devotees among the ranks that would gravitate towards such a weekend... many to participate in the I&E, and others as fans. Having a weekend off dosen't have to mean "No Drum Corps".....note, several corps take the Allentown weekend off so interested members can attend the DCI show...some go, some don't. Compitition is clearly the focus for corps, but one must factor in so many other elements when summing up the overall drum corps experience we all embrace...soo many memories both on and off the field, they last a lifetime!
  15. Since we're thinking "outside the box" why not consider breaking up the events of the Championship weekend into two separate dates/venues? Keep the traditional championship at the end of August and move the Alumni show and I&E to June or July. Both events could be accomplished over a two day weekend and would also generate income from two separate gates. The Alumni and I&E event could be an "off" weekend for all competitive corps to relax and sit back as spectators to and enjoy the events and vice/versa... Why not?
