  1. Including DCI scores for DCA corps in any kind of ranking is just bull. Not that this ranking is worth anything anyway since it's all different panels and different shows; apples and bannanas. Now you have MBI right there with CV, up with Cabs and almost Hurcs and Empire. Oh and all are well ahead of Renegades. Plus the Alliance would probably be there too based on their one DCI show with CV. But that score shouldn't count at all considering how jacked the sheets and number of judges were at that show. CV had a 15 point jump? Based on that show and the fan network reviews CV was still at the bottom of the pack from yous guys. Nice predicting there. Wonder how MBI's & Renegades DCI scores really translate to DCA? 5, 10 15 points? Wait and see! Still, it's going to be a competitive season even though there's so few open class corps.
  2. What's the big deal about Kilties? They are currently a voting member. Because Brigs dropped out a while ago.
  3. AJ Wright owns or is in the same chain as Marshalls and TJ Maxx; and some other stores. I think lots of folks have been to those stores. I heard the CEO or whoever the drum corps fan was that was in their upper ranks retired and the new guy didn't know drum corps or care to continue the relationship.
  4. I'd bet the corps running off to Baltimore for Independence Day parades from the South or other long distances aren't taking their whole corps. Probably just one bus worth if you're a bigger corps. Otherwise it wouldn't be cost effective to spend >$10k or whatever it is to travel (I'm just guessing); not much profit after doing all the parades. I could see one bus being worth it. I saw somewhere someone saying there's no money in parades in the south; that's why they head to Baltimore and elsewhere. Anyway, I see it would be a cool idea since all these corps are already near each other, but how many of them have their whole corps there and who wants to do 3 parades and a show in one day?
  5. So does that mean Renegades will be the first Open Class corps to perform at prelims? Since they won't have a DCA score during the regular season? Or is that exception rule still exist?
  6. Don't like the suggestion at all.
  7. Maybe someone mentioned it already. How many DCI corps are going to keep rehearsing until Labor Day weekend? Or are all assuming DCA will change their schedule? Also part of the G7 thing talks about the 7 getting more of the money. Sounds like they want to be like DCA. Each corps in DCA negotiates their own performance fees with a sponsor. The top ones of DCA definitely get more for a show than the bottom corps. Isn't that right? And only the top 10 have a vote in DCA; 11 and below no vote. At least in the G7 proposal the next few corps after the 7 get a vote. Yeah, sounds like the 7 want to be more like DCA. -E
  8. What? Music rights in the summer? You mean a full year ahead of time? That's a ridiculously rare event if a corps has their show selected AND they have their permissions a full year early. I understand the hush thing. Low numbers at a rehearsal breeds low return of those that are already at rehearsal. e.g. you show up and there are only 18 horns and 2 snares standing there when your corps marched 45 horns and 7 snares the previous season. The new guy you just brought along sees this and isn't impressed; never comes back. So do you advertised that you have a third of what you had the previous year to draw more folks? I don't think so. You have to advertise the positive things. c'mon, think through these things.
  9. Wow, you used to be able to buy all of pre-lims and finals for $130. Or all prelims finals and alumni for $160. Fairly large price increase. $280 for the complete set; does that include alumni show or is that prelims and finals only?
  10. Heard from my brother's, uncle's, father's, second cousin's, landscaper's, niece's, college roommate that the alliance is doing something about Hemingway. For Whom the Bell Tolls
  11. That excuse happens with every corps, every show. Bus broke down, kids still in school, prom, SATs, soloist had to work, bass 5 broke a finger, closer not on the field, dog ate my homework, slept late... All have to deal with that stuff. But the "not accepting an Official score" quote is just plain silly. Live with it, you got a score and it's officially being looked at and used, good or bad, by everyone here to rank you in this which is the only method available to rank you. Besides, corps should get evaluated and scored every time they perform if DCI is agreeable. Telling them you're just in exhibition when you are truly a competitive corps for that season is a cop out. If you're a start up just getting going it's truly an exhibition, I understand, but if you're a competitive DCA corps, no. Of course, if the sheets weren't done properly like happens often, then sure, fix that and publish the right score.
  12. I refuse to read this thread until THAT number of shows is SEVEN. Fingers on a chalk board, anti-matter and matter colliding, dogs & cats living together seeing "Renegades" and "SIX" in the same topic heading....I have to run away from this thread... my eyes are burning out!!
  13. Oooo, what fresh ideas? Hopefully, even if that did happen there wouldn't be any stupid things voted in, like say all corps must have X number of mandatory trips to other regions. That will force corps to go under faster than they already do. That's what you dudes seem to want. It won't work. The same reason a corps like Bucs doesn't go to Nashville to do a show is the same reason MCL doesn't go to Texas or Cali to do a show. [competition, $, travel time, etc.] Back to fresh ideas.... Why would it be assumed the directors of those 6 non-NE corps be filled with fresh ideas and the 4 NE director not? Let's list some of their non-fresh ideas that have passed: 1. DCA class A, voted in by the directors when there were ~ 9-1 NE vs. non-NE corps. 2. Share points for all corps not just top 10, voted in by the directors when there were ~ 9-1 NE vs. non-NE corps. 3. Regions (South, Central, West?) and region shows earning share points, all voted in by directors when there were ~ 7-3 NE vs. non-NE corps. (I put ~ in there because I don't know exactly when the things were voted in and who exactly were the voting corps, but it's close) That's just 3 "fresh" ideas off the top of my head from these directors who took on the job of running corps and being second-guessed to death by us. So what fresh ideas do we need to pass on?
  14. From what I understand the rule proposal went to the percussion caucus and never left; voted down there. So the 10 directors never voted on it.
  15. E-mail Tom Peashey. address is here I think: http://www.dcacorps.org/?page_id=56
  16. I heard that indeed was done for the Winston-Salem show a few years back. Btw, it's not really the extra money that goes to the corps that is the major factor...who's going to give extra money to those fans to go to Orlando or all these places in the South, Midwest, West for DCA championships? You have to consider the fan-base of DCA championships. Move it to Miami; you might be able to pay the corps to go but you're not going to get enough butts in the seats too. PLUS be sure to include time travel in your bid proposal for San Antonio, Riverside or Orlando, remember now for those locales they also become corps that have to take an extra day to travel to get there and get home- that in an of itself will help prevent a move from the NE. There's lots more to consider than you all have discussed.
  17. Ooo, yes with that, David Bruni needs to stop it too. DM, program coordinator, corps director, etc. Yup, yer right, it just can't be done and be successful. Bruni is the bomb! Glad he and/or Empire won't take your advice.
  18. ah thanks. guess it fell off the front page faster than I would have expected.
  19. Is there really no thread on here about the passing of Doc? Dr. Almo Sebastianelli Rest in peace
  20. 400 or 40, same thing- divide by 10. But this is still confusing. If you got a 77 then a 48, you must be talking about a subcaption for one judge. He has 2, each worth 100. Saying a 30 point tank sounds a bit much, but now I get what you're saying. It's really a 2.9 point tank as far as overall score, or if you really want to get specific, it's really 2.9*3/8 = 1.0875 of a tanking because of the averaging. Significant, yes, but not all that huge; were you tanked elsewhere? What was that judges other subcaption score? Was it out of line as well? I assume not since you didn't mention it, but just wondering.
  21. Quick question: "tanked 30 points in brass by a judge"? Is that a typo and you meant 3 pts? Recaps aren't available, but the total brass on a sheet is 40. One judge only has 20 pts (20 each for field and ensemble). Or are you saying you got a 10 in total brass? If so, that is strange; split and you'd have a 5 from the field judge and a 5 from the ensemble judge. ??
  22. Anyone on here want to volunteer to do that job? Of course that would be if DCA would let anyone else have access? They may be keeping it one person for security reasons. Speaking of which, would anyone on here that has great webskills want to volunteer to work on the DCA site? I read somewhere that they were looking for web designer.
  23. You should really contact the corps directors directly for this info. Posting this in the vacuum of cyberspace...might as well place an ad in the NY Post.
  24. What about those wives that are drum corps and then turn on it? I knw there's some of those out there. Oh yeah, their wives won't let them post on DCP anymore.
  25. Someone may have noted this already, but for most corporations, even non-profits, chaning by-laws requires 2/3's majority not just simple majority. In DCA they had a thing like this recently. They were top 10 voted; got changed to 14 or smthing like that. Then 2/3s voted to make it top 10. So if 17 have votes then 12 have to be in favor. Sorry it htis was already coverd. -E
