Honestly, I was just wondering. I wasn't trying to be confrontational or imply anything. But thanks for reminding me why I visit this site less and less.

The coronavirus has a 99.9% survival rate...that is a fact. Yet we're destroying businesses and people's lives over this. Just doesn't add up!

Dance.....I'm truly sorry you feel that way.
I sincerely hope you and the ones you love are not affected by what is going on in the same way so many others have been affected.
Death knows no political affiliation.
I'm not dancing. Thanks for your thoughts.

because idiots will still refuse to wear a mask.
85% of infected people were wearing a mask. Are they idiots as well. There is no conclusive evidence that wearing a piece of cloth over your face stops the virus. There is proof however that wearing a mask does affect your respiratory system in a negative way.

That's an impressive team that the Cadets have assembled! I marched with John Broshack in the Reading Buccaneers snare line.

Some experts today came out and said that they believe that it will be the middle of 2021 at the earliest before an effective vaccine
happens for the masses, as things continue to be tested out. If that is true, say bye-bye to the 2021 season.
The only thing I have said bye-bye to in America is common sense.

But will the school districts just say NO no matter what happens with this? The FEAR has been set in to our society now. I am 99% sure our districts would say NO to next year and probably beyond that.
No, the FEAR has been pounded in to our society.

Sorry that I took your comment the wrong way...my apologies. And I'm sorry to hear that you are high risk. That certainly changes the way that one looks at this virus.

I will adjust my attitude about Jeff's comment. Thank you.

If that was intended as humor, don't ever quit your day job for a career in comedy.

There are 3 factors at work here: Emotion, Science & Politics.
Covid is an emotional subject with a scientific solution, and with political decisions (Teacher unions fall under politics).
Ideally all three factors are aligned, but, two factors can overcomer the third. Science & politics can over emotion. Emotion & politics can overcome science. And science and emption can overcome politics.
Thank you for stating your views without insulting me...I appreciate your tone.

you forget parents. not every school district is anti mask send the kids back at all costs.
Parents have no power against the teachers unions and lawyers. And I don't believe anyone is send the kids back at all costs...that is media spin. However, there are many who understand the significance of getting our children back to school...minus the indoctrination.

fear to me is the reality of over 170,000 deaths in 7 months.
Fear is that something this important has been politicized, and the mainstream media is desperately trying to control the narrative.

actually the schools win. the ones that host camps, rehearsal days and shows. And what they decide for their facilities decides what happens to the activity at large.
Which in the end will be driven by the teachers unions and the lawyers. So Garfield is correct.

For the most part, we had no issues with the service. And there was a lot of content for the price. Some people will always find something to complain about.

Yes, we should definitely ally ourselves with the light rather than the darkness.
But even right here on DCP, less than a month ago, cixelsyd posted a poll asking if DCI could have a 2021 season even if WGI was cancelled, and 51% of the respondents, i.e., a majority, said yes. I was one of them. Plenty of optimists out there and in here.
DCI certainly has a fair amount of challenges moving forward...it would be silly to think otherwise. With that said, there's nothing wrong with some optimistic discussions amongst all the doom and gloom. Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't think DCI has the luxury now of following what any other group chooses to do. Time is the cure here and just because WGI bails doesn't mean that DCI has to.
Still PLENTY of time.
I wonder... if each corps put out the notice that, effective immediately and until further notice, there would be (highly modified if required) in-person try-outs from November until January.
If I were DCI, I would establish an audition schedule that gave time for cuts to find a home at another corps and hold corps to it: Top six by December 1st, 6-12 until Dec 15th, 13-22 until January 15 (or even Feb 1st). And I would negotiate a declining cost for cuts auditioning at second and third camps. Make it easy and worthwhile (aka: cheaper) to keep trying until they make a corps, if not their dream corps.
All the while, DCI personnel should darn-well be staying in touch with the major venues (regionals, etc) to keep everyone in good spirits, planning, and being ready regardless of which way the decision goes.
If they allow sports stadiums and other group gatherings, drum corps in stadiums is possible. (Wouldn't one have to say "Better" or "Safer" OUTDOORS?)
Planning to make it happen takes all the time. Cancelling it takes minutes.
In a weird way and slice of time in the universality, DCI might be thrust into the position of being a leader in the activity. Will they Box-5?
Thanks for the optimism...very refreshing in the current doom and gloom that many in America are pushing.

Tell them good luck with getting their health insurance to pay their medical bills if they get sick. The world ain’t gonna stop because some people can’t come to grips with reality.
This has been politicized. That's when it stopped being reality.

At one point I was a decision maker about renting a gym and school space. I never would have been approached by a drum corps since the facility did not have adequate showers. We did rent to a color guard with no problems, at least as far as I could see. We would often rent to AAU basketball programs, and there were always hassles. We rented to summer school day programs, usually for science minded children, and things would be missing. I do not believe they were intentionally stolen, most likely our belongings got mixed up with their belongings. Theater camps often had specific requirements. All of these programs were often run by top notch people. In the end, the buildings were rarely as clean as when they arrived though I would always hear they left it in better condition that they found it when they arrived. Something always seemed to be broken afterwards too. We soon discovered that running a golf tournament was a much easier way to make money and we no longer needed the rental income.
I think jwlillis35’s points about trying to connect with band directors and focusing on how hosting a drum corps benefits both is a good way forward. Something else I would add is if you are looking at using a public school, find out who gets the funds from rental income. In many areas, funds collected from renting property does not go into school coffers, it goes to the city/town. This also includes school districts. If the school gets to keep the funds, it is also helpful to know if it goes into the budget or a discretionary account. Schools are more likely to rent if they can keep the money, otherwise it’s too much work for no reward.
Thanks for a constructive post offering hope and real suggestions instead of the doom and gloom some are pushing about the future of this great activity!

There is a certain individual on here who is an expert about everything and he loves to dig up old posts of mine. This site is slowly turning into the next version of RAMD.
