There's a reason we have two ears and one mouth. Pretty much restating what you wrote, I think.
37 years around and in drum corps, and still so much to learn. Even from fresh eyes and ears from those new to drum corps. Sometimes we can get a little tunnel-vision, but for the most part we have the experience to comment from a personal POV.
Regarding an earlier post on this thread about knowing when a quarterback throws an interception, do you know why he threw it? Did the receiver fall down or blow his pattern? Did an offensive player miss his assignment? Was the quarterback hit as he released? See? There's so much more than the black and white of first impressions. And that applies to drum corps, too. That's why I tend to give more respect to those who have marched drum corps when commenting on things drum corps.
You see, drum corps is like an onion...or an ogre...or something like that.
