  1. Hey Frank, I hear ya! But, in addition to your input, and understanding the original post.....I believe there is something not being mentioned (besides the name of the organization...which is cool) that is not being said which is "Just why in the H isn't the correct decisions being made in a timely fashion, and why would administrations allow the Kids to get beat up on week to week, and humilated, possibly suffer emotional trauma, hate their Drum Corps experience, deplete their already fragile self esteem because the administration FAILED to be prepared, or to make the appropreiate decision to scrap their present season as they are well behind the eight ball. The kids well being besides opportunity to excel should come first, organization second, as this type of decision would put all in a better position for next season ( In my opinion) ....I'll tell you what I think they wouldn't make that decision why? because the childrens humilation, emotional well being are worth sacrificing because the unit doesn't want to go through the evaluation process for next season......which they would have to do. I admire those directors, and administrators who make the tough decision by putting the kids first and the organization second, and aren't afraid to go through the rebuilding process in order to "Do it a better way" Love Drum Corps, by honoring those who make the organization exist "Members" Frank, You know me as Poo's brother (on the downlow)
  2. Good points on the southern thought, here are some thoughts "which will probably cause a heart attack with some of the responders on this site" Less Demanding Competitive Venues" which is tailored for the entry level organizations that is financially freindly for members and star up organizations, have some regional competitions without the touring aspect attached to it. It's not just "How we encourage" (as we should do) but rather "How do we keep them once they have started". New York hasn't had a competitive unit on any level (junior) since around 2004, inwhich hopefully the process is about to change.
  3. Never having the pleasure of meeting you or your board membership, I must say "Way to Go" in making the go forward decision to prepare more securely for the future of Fever. It is always difficult to make these types of decisions for obvious reasons, but I applaud your organizations focus. Believe me there are many organizations out there that are frighten to pull the trigger on the present situation with their corps, because they believe if they stop the bleeding now and build for the future, they will never make it out on the field again, so they continue to suffer in the silence of the night with extreme debts....which I find incredibly stupid (for the lack of a better word) Way to Go! and continued success with your strategic plans to solidify Fever.
  4. Hey, I heard that the Skyliners (The Competitive Corps) is moving, where are you guy's going to be located?
  5. Hey, if you live in New York, or close by in East Jersey check out Network. They are financially competitive, and offer various types of performance based enhancement programs, besides offering the Drum & Bugle Corps experience. Real cool staff and friendly atmosphere. Here's the web-site www.networkcorps.org
  6. Hey Frank, Frank as we spoke of last night at Konga's here is my informtion. I attempted to send you this email via your other email account, but it bounced back. 7. From Herschel Vaughn via email he sent me. This is a tough one. As Frankie has stated, being at a loss for words to clearly express verbally what it is I feel is a difficult thing to do at this point. I found out the morning of and just sat at my office stunned. I put out some emails to the people that I had email addresses to. My Brother (Poo) at this moment still does not know, as I tried to contact him, this is going to hurt him deeply. Growing up in Brooklyn like George, Frankie, HB, Speedy, Bob Reynolds, Mark Riley, Keith Warfield and many many more we shared a special kinship that transends the Drum & Bugle Corps Activity, but the Drum & Bugle Corps Activity afforded us many wonderful memories, friendships and opportunities. My Heart goes out to the Richardson Family, The St. Joe's Patron's, The Brassmen and his New York Skyliners Family God Bless and keep you in this time of loss Herschel Vaughn Executive Director: Network: The Drum and Bugle Corps
  8. Wow! what a topic, hopefully this string will continue to grow. I know the question was directed towards the present "open class hero's" as there are so many passionate mentors out there, that I had to call the Director of Network to get his input and he shot back this information from what he remembers, but asked that if he forget anyone he apologizes. 9. WOW! Drummergirl, Believe me, it is always great to hear and feel the spirit of volunteerism. Your passion with wanting to help out in the Drum & Bugle Corps activity is absolutely great you can even tutor some kids from time to time, and help better prepare them for the coming year. Wow what an asset you would be. But, I just want to throw this at you for consideration as well, there many (formerly known as D2-3) lesser known Drum & Bugle Corps that could certainly use your help, as they might not have it all together yet, and you could become so vital and instrumental to "that" organization. You may say well I'll volunteer one summer and get the bug out, and find yourself so committed that you'll end up a important member of that staff administratively and or artistically. I wish you were a little closer to New York / New Jersey as I would contact you IMMEDIATELY! Drummergirl you have demonstrated the right type of spirit that we want our corpsmembers to one day do themselves. You're Awesome! Good Luck with your find!
  10. Hey Glen, I hope all goes well in regard to the re-organizational meeting October 13th. All of us should attempt to bring or start a East Coast Drum & Bugle Corps, as once we were a proud powerful breed. Glen, is the organization attempting a return to the field in 2008, or 2009? Thanks and be steadfast.
  11. Thanks, I'll be on the lookout for the contact person!
  12. Hey, I know you're looking for Guard members, but let me put this opportunity to tyou for perhaps one of your peers. We are establishing a Color-Guard Only training program in Brooklyn, New York and is presently looking for a technically gifted, dance orientated individual to teach. This would be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to eventually become a designer in the active venue of Field Drum & Bugle Corps Competition. If anyone in your membership has these attributes and ambition please feel free to send an email to: admin.services@networkcorps.org Thanks
  13. Whoever, mentioned Herman "Hy" D, thank you! Everyone that all mentioned abviously left an impact with they way they arranged. This is a good subject, as I have notice not many people have even heard of "Hy" and that's just because they weren't born yet! So if you young whippa snappers can ever get your hands on any things "HY" wrote, I promise you ..you will be amazed at his arrangement as well as the performers that played his stuff. Allot of guy's mentioned actually played under "Hy" and then can into there own. Great Stuff, Great Stuff.
  14. The more the merrier at NETWORK! email: admin.services@networkcorps.org, as I am sure they will be happy to hear from you!
  15. Hey Glen, Good luck with bringing back LVK, what division are you looking at to compete in
  16. Now this is a subject that I like, toooo bad most of you might not have been around, but the C.M.C.C. Warriors from Harlem / Bronx was scary as hell! If you can ou can imagine a drumline "DRUMLINE" that didn't hide behind "effects" and such. At one time the Warrios had a 16 man front snare, and single tenor section to go along with 4 (triples at that time) tom's 4 gigantic symbols and 2 42' Bass Drums. Innovative drumming (they by the way implemented 6/8 first) as it is commonly used today. ####!
  17. Email: Forwarded to me to post To: Mr. Glen Eng, and the Administration of The Spirit of Newark / New Jersey. Regardless, of the rumored or factual turbulent waters that may be facing the organization, as a team you haven't wavered in your commitment to travel and compete in Pasadena (Bakersfield) "Congratulations"! I applaud your administrations effort with this endeavor to provide for the membership of Spirit the opportunity "to give it their best competitive shot" on the very competitive world stage of Drum Corps International. At Network, we wish you, the administration, the artistic staff, the volunteers and the membership of Spirit safe travel, competitive satisfaction and the best of times! Sometimes the victory isn't measured by the scores, but by the effort given to champion challenges that arise. Have a memorable time! Herschel Vaughn Executive Director of: NETWORK: The Drum & Bugle Corps. ex.dir@networkcorps.org
  18. YO! Harvey, even though some might say the judging on the two coast are very much different..."I kinda like your run down" based on what is like a spread sheet....Keep it going Harvey, as Surf, Raiders have just competed and next up for Division III is the Spirit of New Jersey.
  19. Hey, I was in a conversation (last wednesday night ) with alot of old vet's from the 70's and as always we talked about a lot of old day crap, like who was better than who and so forth. We also talked about how many (that we knew of in Drum Corps) were overage age by a million years but never got caught, like our own corps from back in the day. Then we went on like a bunch of street corner wino's and tried to come up with a system that would be fool proof in catching overage people and stop them and their corps from competing. Most of the conclusions of answers we came up with had so many loop holes we failed in our attempt, and thought that we would put this out there to all of you for additional answers, and then discuss what you provided next week in the continuning saga of "As Drum Corps Turns". Here ya go! 1) If a director knew of his / or her membership was overage, and didn't do anything about it... what would be done if it was proven that he /she knew about it and let the member (s) go on the field to compete? 2) Is it fair to a corps who follow the age rules, to have to compete against overage developed talent from another corps? and if they (rule follwers) even suspected that another group (corps) has overage members "What should they do?" 3) What system is in place year after year that protects the integrity of Drum Corps in regard to age? And how do they "System" verify that everyone on the field is legal before the season begins and while the season is ongoing, or is this something impossible to control? 4) And do you think, that the future of competitive Drum & Bugle Corps, will be "The ALL Age System" presently becoming popular instead of the present age parameters? This is an old topic, and probably not that important to many but it's out there whaddaya say?

Hey Mike, you probably have the information you are seeking, but in the event that you do not....contact George Lavalle as it was his Dad (George Lavalle Senior) who was very instrumentatl with the beginings of the Raiders.
