  1. Still hoping to find the above listed videos. Thanks!
  2. L.A. Chinese was long gone by this point. And of course, Yamaha being Japanese, a Japanese corp would make more sense. In 1981, I was once solicited to join a corp called "Third Generation" which was based in SoCal and of Japanese origin. They had designs of fielding a corps in local competition but this never happened and I never heard of them performing anywhere. That does not mean they did not have horns though. If I recall correctly, they were attempting to expand from a drum line to a full corps. So it very well could have been some sort of donation of prototype horns which had spurred on such ambitions. I remember Yamaha being considered one of the worst trumpets on the market back at that time.
  3. What kinds of mutes do people find work or work best with a flared bell style mellophone like that sold by Kanstul or Dynasty?
  4. Hi, I am looking to purchase videos of the original Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps (1964 - 1997). Willing to pay reasonable prices. Looking for video as described below. Any video before 1983. Any non-DCI video. 1984 - DCI High Camera Video. 1986 - 1994 DCI High Camera Video. 1995 - any video 1986 - any video All help is appreciated. Thanks
  5. Did you get my address? Were you able to send it out ok?

    Thanks

    Gary

  6. Somehow I confuse this with '82. I don't really know what sort of VHS DCI offered in 1980. I think I know two girls who were in that color guard.
  7. There were no Semi-Finals in that era and DCI sold video tape of only the top 15 corps that year. Videos of other corps are pretty rare.
  8. Definitely want this if still available.
  9. I had heard somewhere some promotions involving free admission for children and something else, I think possibly an IN resident discount. I do not ever recall DCI doing anything like this before. And, if you have not been to this stadium, I find that it is extremely difficult to get any sort of accurate gauge on how many people are there from the actual seats. Going off to the side, I would imagine one could get a better idea. But I have never made it out around there while the crowds have been near peak.
  10. I had some fantastic seats. Section 340 for quarters and semis these were visually probably the best seats I had ever had. For Finals, I was in section 141. Therein lies the problem. It was only by watching Finals down low that I was able to realize the extent to which the horn power seems to be lost. From up high, I really had no sense of which horn lines amongst the top six or so were most powerful. Just overall, I really find now that I was not able to hear the brass nearly as well as I should have or even assumed that I was in the third level.
  11. Another fantastic show design and series of moving performances from Phantom this year. Looked to me like another year where they had the design and talent to possibly win, but just couldn't quite master the execution. Electrifying though. From a pure spectator standpoint, I will take more of these.
  12. Didn't read through the entire thread, but my two cents: Sat next to someone with massive amounts of expression in the activity last night. He told me that he noticed this person struggling from early on in the show. I did not see anything until right after the guy went down. So, I felt it was a pretty firm conclusion that he had either injured himself early on or gone in injured and pushed himself way beyond what could be expected. This was, by far, the worst thing I have ever seen in drum corps. It ranks right up there with the most disturbing sports injuries I have seen on TV. And I have never seen anyone travel so far unassisted with so serious an injury. It is really tough to imagine how much pain this individual must have endured just pushing himself far enough to sustain the final injury, much less attempting to get off the field. I join everyone else in just really hoping that he is able to recover completely from this.
  13. Heh, I thought that they had actually dropped out. I still think that there were 19 corps listed a week or so ago.
  14. Is having it at the same time and place helping?
