  1. OK,just Blue Skying it here but how bout this. After several hours of serious thinking and even more serious drinking.... How about the corps all get together and pitch in and buy 15,000 of those spy type ear pieces that makes you able to hear people talking about you over at the water cooler. Most people have seen the ads on TV. OK got your interest??? You buy them and rent them out at each show. The cost of the rentals can be reasonable, as the cost would be recouped in about 5 yrs or sooner, if it really catches on. If you think the corps are not loud enough to hear, you rent them. Hey it sounded good in my head!!!!
  2. I remember having to do a parade in 98 or 99. It was late at night and we sat around forever. Hardly any spectators.
  3. Noticed that myself.Hmmmm? If the corps makes he'll probably put it back in.
  4. Well then.....have a safe trip to and from the shows this weekend. You have to remember we way up nort here are in a different time zone. And adding to that, I have been accused of being in my own zone on more than a few occasions! I just wanted to be the first to get it up on the board. HEH
  5. To all going out to NY next week. Have a safe trip to and from. Go out there have fun. From a Guy who BLEEDS PLAID. But consideres any one in the activity my family
  6. I t is true. Researchers used to believe that caffeinated drinks had a diuretic effect. This means that you would urinate more after drinking them, which could increase your risk of becoming dehydrated. Recent research shows that this is not true and that caffeine only has a diuretic effect if you consume large amounts of it — more than 500 to 600 milligrams (or 4 to 7 cups of coffee) a day. Still, caffeinated drinks can make you jittery, sleepless or anxious. Water is probably your best bet to stay hydrated. It's calorie-free, caffeine-free, inexpensive and readily available. a little research and this a bit of what I found.
  7. Truth in all your statements. I use this only as a example: But if the highest score of the year is used for seeding then it has mean something. If MB had scored consistanly lower in prelims than in the last reg. show Do you not think the members would wonder WTF is going on. Also let me add in point spreds. If x corps say is 10 points behind xx corps in all the shows they are heads up in,and then all of a sudden x ends up 15-20 points behind xx corps at prelims,do you not think this would raise some eyebrows. If you cannot factor in previous scores/spreds, why then even have judges?Do the regular shows as they do in football, all exhibtion and then let all the marbles fall on Labor day. Or pick seeding placements out of a hat. I realize corps have gotten better and the bars have been raised. Speaking to current members of the Kilties they as a organization know they have to bring the A game. They as a current organization, are not looking back at the past. They are looking forward! All my posts are from my perspective and mine alone if others agree or or diagree that is not relevent to me Although it is nice to have some validation. I do not or have ever have intended to drag the Kilties or any other corps into a pi**ing contest.I apologize if it I appear to have done so. Again I am speaking for myself. PS. Go Midwest
  8. And I was there, for a few of em.The general concenses of the corps was that we could of done better. And the corps took responsability ya have to. But that in no way were we that much worse than our last show. And being that way 3 years running. You have to admit it gives you a WTF moment. It did me. You can go up to just about any member of any corps and they will tell you they could of had a better show,or they had the best show ever. When you don't get the score that you you are going to say yeah I could have done better. And I did write in my previous post that I know the "Kiltie organization" is not belly aching about the past. They have moved on are coming out loaded.AS are all the corps. The statement I made was my opinion and as far as what I wrote was mine alone.
  9. 2007 Kilties Last show 83.8 Prelims 81.88 CVets Last Show 87 Prelims 87.8 MC Last show 81 Prelims 84 2008 Kilties Last Show 84.325 Prelims 82.78 CVets Last Show 85 Prelims 88.2 MC Last Show 80.2 Prelims 85.5 2009 Kilties Last Show 84.0 Prelims 81.56 CVets Last 82. Prelims 82. MC Last 80.2 Prelims 80.8 I picked the comparison of the above 3 corps because they were all in the same scoring group. It is kind of disturbing to me,that all 3 years the Kilties were the only group of the 3 to take a significant drop in scores between the last reg.season show and prelims. And now for my humble opinion (and some would say unedikated) it is what it is and was what it was. Can't keep living in the past. And I do not think for a moment that the Kilties are. They are moving foward and are ready to bring A Great Show to Rochester . GOOD LUCK TO ALL But my Heart is with the Midwest. MBI over Bucs Kilties make prelims in a BIG WAY Govies Will show everybody what it's all about
  10. A doctor told me to start hydrating at least a week before the event. This gives the entire body a chance to hydrate. He also gave me some toothpaste to use that is made just for the dry mouth problem. Again as with the water you have to use the paste for a period of time. A fellow Kiltie,Bill Symye(sp) had cancer and could not produce saliva. He rigged a small bottle for water,to his horn right next to his mouth piece. This way he could get a drink when ever he needed it. And if any of this is not possible, just have your corps build some giant backdrops to hide the hornline and water jugs during the drum solo. HEH
  11. Contact the Racine Kilties they had a few flugels awhile ago. They may be able to help you out.
  12. This was only the first read of the Kilties by a DCA panel. And if I'm not mistaken all the judges were from out East, with the exception of Cecil Austin. They have 3 more shows (before prelims) to improve on last night. I'm looking for a" KILTIE Push."
  13. Great read JC Hope to see ya;ll at the home show From the other JC
  14. Thanks Matt. So the scores for Kidsgrove so far could be way low or way high or dead on,in comparison to the DCA sheets. Good luck in August
  15. I am wondering about the comparison between the DCUK and DCA sheets, judging. Are they on the same sheets? Any help??
  16. We were on the car ferry going from Manitowoc Wi to ludington Mi. It was a 4 hr night cruise, and some of the guys got a little bored. 2(rookies) of them were caught throwing deck chairs off the 3rd deck to see if they would float. One guy crawled thru a port hole into the galley and had started serving up rib eye steaks. I remember that one of the guys that was throwing chairs was caught by some of the older guys. They hung him over the siderail,by his feet, until he %$%^himself. The corps was not allowed back on the Ferry for our return trip, and was banned for all eternity from the ferry.
  17. So how many on here think they'll keep Kidsgrove from making Night show.Having come all the way from where they hail from??
  18. But that is in Euroscore, which right now the conversion rate is in your favor. :
  19. Back in my Junior corps day we did 3 parades and 2 shows in one day. The cities were right next to one another. We'd get done with one parade and then walk a couple of blocks to do the next parade. The Kilties All age corps are just like rock stars in the Racine 4th of july parade. I have never experianced anything like it. In Burlington Wi. we had just got done with the parade and were getting ready to leave.Atruck with a flat bed pulled up and said the band that was supposed to show, didn't. The driver asked if we would ride on the flat bed and play Xmas songs. So to make a short story longer a bunch of us did,and we got paid twice. One other time with the Kilties our horn line was warming up next to a rock band that was riding on a flat bed.The rock band statred play Chicagos 25 or 6to 2 4.The band got a pretty good surprise when about 40 of us horns jumped in and started jamming with them. But to answer the original question it's about money and exposure. And in the case of the Kilties, for the Memorial day parade it's about saying thanks to those who supported the corps thru the years. Also paying Homage to the men and women of the services that served. We never asked or took a dime for that one.
