  1. Ok. I'm sorry but I must make a comment. First, I thought everone performed well last night. I think the ks did an awesome job. But the did lack. I think there brass was amazing and should have been higher. Ver close to hurcs and cabs. Marching was also good but just because they move a lot does not mean they execute it on a high level. The do look great marching but Hurcs also move a lot on that field and we as spectators can't say one show moves more than the other because they both move. Ks color guard and percussion is in my opinion why they are not higher. The color guard was good but no where close to Hurcs. Sorry. The percussion was ok. Once again. Nothing that was a wow factor. Both sections performed well, bu I just believe that they didn't match up to Hurcs and Cabs. What will happen in rochester, who knows. Although deserving, I don't see DCA, having them jump 10+ points in a week. So all in all, I think ks deserved a much better score but I don't fully agree with putting them over Hurcs and maybe Cabs. Just my opinion.
  2. Its interesting. People keep talking about who hasn't beaten who yet this season. Have we forgotten what happened last year? Hurcs didnt lose to anyone other than Buccs all season until finals. I honestly dont think its anyone's game....except Buccs maybe. Its a dog fight. Everyone is in it to win it. They arent going for 2nd or 3rd. The top 5 I personally think is there. Where they end up? who knows. The past 2 years, placements 2 - 5 was never a sure thing and both years changed between prelims and finals. All of the groups have alot to clean up and have their eyes on the prize. Im just glad its a dog fight and not huge spreads at the top. You also have no idea what kid of curve ball Kidsgrove Scouts will add into the mix. So it will be interesting the rest of the season.
  3. Why so much about 1981? Lets look to the future. I cannot wait to see Hurcs come out this weekend. I love the Bridgeport show.
  4. Hey, Nothing from Connecticut? No announcements from Hurcs Yet? Whats up with that. There is usual something out by now?
  5. Its amazing How people can read this forum, and still continue to Say this or that about Hurcs. They DO NOT feel shafted. Disappointed in the placement, but not shafted. So, since they dont feel shafted, everyone else GET OVER IT. Also, no offense, I am sure Cru did a great job, but this is not a CRU topic. Its about time football season is back. I love baseball season, but its now time for Football. Im sorry for all of you Giants fans. That was luck last year. Yeah, they made some good plays. As much as I hate to say it, Look out for the Eagles. YEAH FOOTBALL.
  6. I am not saying that their opinion has no class, its how they said it and where they did. Most people have said that MBI was better than Hurcs and Maybe they were. But most people came on here with respect to the Hurcs and stated their opinion. The way this person did it was out of character of this entire thread in my opinion. Your correct about this being a message board and everyone's opinion should be respect just as the judges opinion should be. There is also a time and place for it and this thread, I feel wasnt the best place. Thats all.
  7. Dude, seriously? You have no class. You need to rethink when you post.
  8. Why are people putting words into hurcs mouth. I have yet to see them come here and say that they got screwed. They might be disappointed in their placement, but not screwed. The only thing I say is that if Empire deserved to beat Hurcs, they should have been placed alot closer to them in prelims. Its just hard to justify a drum corps going up almost 4 points in one night. So, basically what everyone is saying is the Judges on prelims night got it wrong. At the same time, everyone trusts what the judges say. When it goes the way they want, the judges are good and vice versa. Complete Contradiction. To all of the 14 corps that were at finals, Congrats. This year was a true dog fight to the finish. Nothing was written in stone. Even in finals, your place wasnt written in stone. The top 5 corps know this all too well from the past 2 years although this years finals placements are exactly the same as last years with close to the same spreads. It happens. One thing I can promise you, Hurcs, Cabs, Empire, and MBI will be going for that top spot and not just top 5. Good luck in the off season. I cannot wait to see show announcements. Is it time for Wildwood yet?
  9. What he is saying is that the way it is now, because Bush didnt come out of the gate with good numbers, there is no contest at all at finals. Everyone should go home, there isnt a show. Hurcs and MBI dont have a chance so dont bother. Only Bush had the chance. I dont agree with that, but thats what I get from this.
  10. And people continue. Its not like the hurricanes are coming on here and talking crap. leave it alone already. Hurcs and all other corps will do their talking on the competition field and not really care what anyone on this board has to say quite frankly. If they did, all of the corps except for Buccs would have thrown in the towel by now.
  11. Wow, Does someone always have to find something negative to say? And It seems that its a common thread. The Hurricanes. No matter what they do, Someone has the Hurricanes in the middle of some stupid mess. And now they are throwing Empire into the mix. At the beginning, people thought the guard was over hyped, now not a single word about them and they are still undefeated. Then the entire drum corps is over hyped. Nothing else from that. Then they had to find something else to cry over. So they said something about hurcs being disrespected by Bush. Now that Hurcs have essentially squashed everything everyone has said, someone has to find something else wrong like the rehearsal fields and the awards. And if thats not enough, they have to start on Empire because they couldnt find enough things to say about Hurcs. Give me a break. Cant you just Enjoy the season without stating some stupid controversy? Here is the kicker, 95% of the time, its by some no name person who doesnt post much, that says that they have x amount of years of experience. I respect the opinions of the people who are the long time posters and proven track records withing the drum corps activity. I dont have to agree, but I respect it. I feel sorry for what ever drum corps that the original "Im too good for empire" gets you. Your going in with the wrong mind set. Empire, Hurcs, and all others work their butts off to get to where they are now and dont really need people like that to make it seem like there season is anything less than what it is.
  12. Thats correct. Hurricanes just missed finals. They were a judged exhibition and got a higher score then the 10th place corps
  13. Wow, I would have to disagree with you on many levels. Im quite sure that Alliance has a very demanding show. I have no doubt. But to say someone like Hurcs, Cabs, and Bucs do not have a demanding show is crazy. They sweat and are out of breath just as much as everyone. A good example is Hurcs Show. I think its their 3rd or 4th song Red pony. There are alot of notes in that song. And they are moving alot. THey donot do 8 to 5. its more like a 6 to 5 the entire song. I promise you Cabs run around that field from start to finish. Everyone has a demanding show. All of these groups are young and reaching for the top. Jazz running, while playing, point blank sucks. I cannot think of a brass player who would want to jazz run to make it look "cool". Plus it looks bad trying to jazz run when it is not needed. I just ask that before you say someones show isnt demanding, pick up a tuba, and go march their drill. Good luck to everyone next week. I am sure everyone is going to bust their butts and put on a high energy, high DEMANDING show.
  14. You know, I would write a review, but all I would say about all of the groups is that they are all in August form. Great shows. Everyone is ready for Prelims. So it wouldnt be worth it to write. Everyone great. The crowd was fantastic. Hurcs are a great Host. BTW, First time Hurcs have ever won their home show in their 55 year History. They have won Barnum but never their home show. Congrats
  15. WOW...Ummm, I Would have to say probably not. Maybe 2 years ago. Here is mine 1. Bucs ~ They have the formula 2. Hurcs ~ They will come the closest to beating them than anyone has recently. 3. MBI ~ They are good and I cannot see them any lower 4. Empire ~ Its not that they are not good, These other groups have a show that just outshines them 5. Cabs ~ They do really well, but same placement as last year 6. Bush ~ They are stubborn. They do not like to give up. People write them off and they stick up their middle finger and prove them wrong. 7. Renegades ~ Good, but around same placement as last year 8. Briggs ~ Surprised by Renegades and slip down in placement 9. Corpvets ~ good but hey, if they play Georgia, they win in my book 10. Alliance ~ Welcome to the top 10 1) Grenadiers 2) Fusion Core 3) Govenaires 4) Carolina Gold 5) Vigilantes 6) White Sabers 7) Sun Devils 8) Sunrisers 9) Lakeshoremen 10) Excelsior 11) Shenandoah Sound
  16. Ya know, I noticed a slight change in opinions of the top 5 in particular. Just and Observation: Alot of people before had Hurcs finishing 4th, 5th, or 6th. Now its 2nd or 3rd. What has changed? Alot of people had Empire in 2nd or 3rd because of history Now its 4th and 5th? What has changes? I have this strange feeling about this week. With the Obvious 3 top Dogs Hurcs, Bucs, and MBI performing in different places, I can see prelims going completely against what everyone thinks and it will be: 1st Hurcs 2nd Buccs 3rd MBI or 1st MBI 2nd Buccs 3rd Hurcs Or any of the combos. And you never know what renegades will pull out of their sleeves on the west. I will agree, this year will not be the same when it comes to speads. Spreads will be 10ths across the board. Top 5 will be just as interesting as last year and A class is much much much more exciting this year. Cannot wait.
  17. Understandable. I was just waiting for the typical "..... should have been hurcs" or "Hurcs guard isnt good". Of course Empire is in the hunt. Empire is not the type of corps to lay down and just accept their placement. I love this type of season. Where nothing in written in stone. Not even buccs being in first is certain. Thats why this season is so great.
  18. Well, since everyone is more interested in Empire and Cabs, Ill talk about Hurcs. Congrats Hurcs. You guys did great. Last year you guys were fighting back in forth with Empire and Cabs for 2nd place. Despite the fact that most people may not agree with your placement, you have been consistent with being 2nd this year and not slipping. you guys arent perfect yet, but come DCA weekend, I cannot wait to see the magic happen. Its going to be another great Finals weekend. Good luck to all of the corps in the next 3 weeks of shows.
  19. I honestly enjoy reading reviews. It may no seem that way. Everyones perspective is different. Everyone has a different opinion. Im biased. I love Bucs and Hurcs. But, I also give credit where credit is due. Bush is pushing and will be in finals. Cabs are not just pushing to be in 3rd or second, they are going for the gold. Statesman have alot of ground to make up, but, they are the statesman and I wouldnt be surprised to see them in the top 3 again. Someone wrote that its discouraging to people who march that come on here and see people bash their shows and say they dont move or what ever. Absolutely right. Moving and playing period is hard enough as it is. And from what I saw, Bucs, Hurcs, and Cabs go from one side of the field to the other and do not park and bark. Other groups may not move as fast or as much, but they still move. If they didnt move much, then they wouldnt spend so many hours rehearsing visual stuff. In the end, all of the shows this year will be the best DCA has ever seen. Who ever executes their individual show the best (or sucks the least, lol) will come out on top. This is my opinion. It seems alot of people have just been reviewing and not really congradulating much soo... Congrats to Buccs on a great win. Congrats to Hurcs on a hard fight to 2nd when it seems not many people believe in you.
  20. Im not trying to start trouble, but I want to put together what I am understanding from the collective or reviews. Reading was good but flat. Can be beaten. Hurcs don't deserve the placement they got. Their guard isn't good and neither is the hornline nor drill. The don't move at a high velocity they should be in 4th or 5th place right now. MBI should be beating everyone. They have great drill that doesn't invole them moving, but they play really well. Cab should be beating hurcs point blank. Not much else. Empire got the placement they deserved. Bush, their guard is awesome as should be winning. These are not my opinions. I actually disagree with all of it. But this is what I am getting from the reviewers. I'm not here to pick a fight because your opinion is your opinion. But I do have questions. if hurcs are not that good, why are they cosistantly behind buccs this year. If their drill doesn't move, that means that since they don't have a tempo below 160 it seams, they are marching cut time. Why is there guard always winning if they aren't the best?(S someone going to try and use the mickey kelly excuse again like last year?) Just my opinion. Also its what I'm colectively getting. Standings as I saw it were as follows: Buccs Hurcs Cabs MBI Empire Bush We won't go int special awards. Thank you for reading my little review thing. If mbi is that great, why are they where they are? Travel time? Cabs should be higher?I agree. Over Hurcs? Dunno. Its been pretty consistant so far. Empire, I atually agree with everyone. No questions there. Bush, well, last year when hurcs battled bush guard all season, everyone said it was a tie. This year, a chunck of the talent from bush guard went to hurcs and all of a sudden, hurcs guard is just ok and bush guard is great. Granted, the are really really good and talented, but not the best. Cabs alumni- no questions there, just a balls to the wall, get off your feet, throwing babies on to the field performance. Never fails.
  21. Well, Congrats to Buccs and Hurcs on victories. There are so many things I want to say about this thread, but dont know where to begin nor do I want my head chopped off. August 1st will be an extremely crazy day. No matter how the numbers fall, there will be people to disagree with it. Lets just enjoy the fact that there are 5 Drum corps that have that shot at the top spot this year and enjoy it. I have my tickets and cant wait.
  22. As much as I hate to admit it, this is the best review of both of these shows. Hurcs have a great package. They need to seriously step back, and work on the basics. Go over horns up and down. All of the turns. Things of this sort. Then once they get these simple things down, they will start to do some serious damage. I hope they do not fizzle out like last year. It did also seem that they had an off night. Several things look to have gone wrong drill wise which probably transfered to the playing. Not an excuse though. Buccs have a great design team. They have great people who have the ability to brew up a great show. I am how ever alittle disappointed in the show from after the opener on out. No real wow moments. Its great sounding and they do all of the simple stuff correctly. Execution is key. they are doing it. They will continue to win until someone has a package to contend. I believe Hurcs have the package and can really make this a tough season for Buccs. But just as the previous poster said, They need to work on the basics. Once the basics are down, I am sure things will really start falling into place
