I think Lucas Oil is a great location for finals. Thursday and Friday are long days and I appreciate the controlled temp, padded separate seats, and ample restrooms. And this is the second straight year where weather would have severely delayed if not cancelled numerous performances in a non-domed stadium. Finally, everything is walkable; I never get a car in Indy. Yes, it is a little boomy but that declines as the crowds increase during the week and it is not so bad as to sway me on the other factors.

Great recap and very helpful to someone getting ready for Thursday who has not seen the Opens. Thanks for doing this.

Jersey Surf recently announced a new affiliation with the Bridgemen and they have already announced next year's show theme "Bridgemania". Dennis DeLucia is heading the design team and Larry Kerchner will arrange the brass book. I think this is a big step in Surf's rediscovering their identity.

My son just started an Accutane regimen and he texted me from weekend camp that he is not sure it is a good idea during drum corps season. He is really having trouble with chapped lips, dry mouth, and even skin pain. Does anyone have any experience with this and any advice? I'm thinking delaying this till season is over.

DCI held it's opening reception at Union Station last night, a former train station converted to banquet use. We were on the main floor and the ceiling was three stories high. Stars's pit and percussion were on the main floor and the horn line was stationed on a narrow second floor balcony which circled us from above. Pines of Rome, Porgy and Bess, America, and others. Whatever else I enjoy this finals week will just be a bonus for me.

Still a week away but I am making plans. The last West Chester show I attended was in 1987. It was the night after Allentown and Cadets shaved a few more tenths from the undefeated SCV...a harbinger of things to come. Anyway, what is the parking situation there? Tailgate friendly?

Surf got that big number at a show where they were the only world class corps in the lineup. I wonder if they would have gotten the same score performing early at a big regional. I am anxious to see how they do when they rejoin the national tour in Alabama Thursday.
