This discussion seems to have little to do with the staff merry-go-round. Aren't there a thousand pages of discussion already dedicated to the plight of SCV? Stay on topic.

Two things occur to me: BD should do a Kurt Weill show; and someone needs to do an aliens show with Close Encounters of the Third Kind as the central music. I think Genesis or Gold would do a great job with that.

This is why I am so glad the I made the decision to buy the full collection at once!

It’s referred to as staging for a reason. I think Regiment played a lot whilst moving, they just didn’t parlay that movement into “drill” per se. They did a lot of scatter drill which I hope they address in 2024.
You must be a Phantom Fan.

OP here. I don't know, just copied/pasted from something on Reddit for discussion.
If I were the one doing the timing, though, big fat no. No credit should be given for simultaneous moving/playing if the section actually playing is not moving.
Amazingly enough, I believe the most simultaneous demand was on the Tuba section! It was very apparent in person, even though they had people marching with horns up while not playing. Baritone do not make trumpet noises.

My main issue with Phantom's show this year was the lack of marching while playing. They did the same thing Madison did last year: the section actually playing is stationary while the other member march/move.
To the OP, was this type of movement included in the time marching while playing?

A recent post here made me take a look back in time. I have been to 24 Finals in 52 years. That was surprising! My question is how many Finals have you attended? And what was your favorite?
My favorite was 1995. My first!

I just wish that a corps like the Velvet Knights was still around. I always thought it would have been a fun show to do a drum corps version of Forbidden Broadway. Take elements and pieces from last years' shows and spoof them. There would be sooooo much to spoof from this year! Ah well, too bad.

Yes! I love your 5th pick! All so amazing this year!!!

I can't believe we have not done this yet. But, what are your personal favorite 5 shows this year.
For me it is:
1. Cadets
2. Mandarins
3. Blue Devils
4. Bluecoats
5. Genesis
Anyone who has seen my posts knows how rare it is for me to like a Blue Devils show, but this year did it for me! And they actually won. Usually when I like their show, they do not win!

You'll have to excuse me. I have PTSD from Westside Story. 🙂
Of course you are forgiven. No more WSS. Ever! Cavaliers pushed it this year, but I forgive them because it was not too much. LOL.

Nothing. Move forward.
Hahaha. Lighten up Francis! Noone is saying do a complete remake. This is simply asking a very simple question. What show had great potential, but for whatever reason did not deliver.
And Yes, you should move on! You just wasted seconds of both our lives. I hope you are happy now. 😊

So, I know we should be focused on the future, but I was wondering what show concept or music would you want to see a corps try again with. Something that was good, but could have been great. That one show to redo.
For me: Blue Devils 1990 or 1991 and the crazy Cadets Mass show (please no backflip Jesus!!!).
Thoughts? If any.

I saw it as PR and Mandarins as unleashed season best runs and Cadets with a run much like Friday probably a bit better. The structure of Cadets' show was such that it didn't portray the crazy energy of the other 2. Instead their power comes from precision and clarity which is impressive as heck. I had no issue with the scores. PR and Mandarins definitely gave their best shot, and Cadets took it and came out on top.
Cavies had a great run too - they peaked at finals, just not by a ton over Semis.
Crazy energy does not make for a great run.

Good run...
Problem is Phantom and Mandarins had GREAT runs...
I honestly rank it Mandarins, Phantom and then CadetsJust to clarify, Cadets had a great run, Mandies had a great run, and Phantom had just a good run. So, I think the judges gt this group right. Honestly, I would have had Cavies closer to Phantom.

First, congratulations to BD for a fantastic show this year and a well deserved championship.
Second, with respect to the threepeat, why does it even matter? When you win more than every other year, does the order of championships matter? This is such a nothing topic. We're the Blue Devils somehow not as great as they could be because they did not have this meaningless status?
But congrats on another well-deserved title BD!

This crowd is DEAD. Worst crowd I can remember at finals. People got jazzed up for Phantom just because it is Indy and they get the absolute same reaction every year regardless of the performance. Let's see what the second half will be like.

When 2 out of the 3 performance parts are in 4th place, it seems messed up that you are nearly 1.5 points ahead.
Exactly! But it doesn't matter. Torchure yourself by looking at average scores of what should be the components. It never works. LoL.

Loved this run by Academy. I think they should be a little higher!

Just wanted to say how great their run was tonight. The brass and percussion sounded absolutely AMAZING!!!! I am staying quiet on the uniform topic, but they are performing this show at such a high level!! So happy for them!

Also I was super let down by Blue Stars. Tamest show about drug induced hallucinations ever done. It needed to be so much weirder.
This is exactly what my friend said! It was all about the process with no real reference to the impacts! It is my least favorite show of the top 17or so.

Are they not announcing scores? I am here, but did not hear any scores announced.
Cadets Suspend for 2024

I am devastated to hear this news. As a long time Cadets supporter, I do appreciate the fact that they are taking the responsible, albeit difficult, decision to suspend for a year. I think that is a good sign for an organization that wants to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability.
Remember, the Troopers took years off in the past and look where they are now.
This is not the end for the Cadets!
