Another favorite! Although I lean to the original. Probably because of the percussion?

A Great Article on The Cadets
mingusmonk replied to Terri Schehr's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In reality, I think that is an accurate sentiment to have. But I didn't feel like that was what the author produced. Especially a brief and dismissive ... Followed directly by And then knocking both products that came after GH's departure. I'm not prodding you to continue in response. I have always had a lot of respect for you and wouldn't dare! ❤️😆 Most of the talk in this thread was about "will they return." And I wasn't seeing any other critique of the author's work, so it seemed like a relevant point to chime in. -
Dance Company vs Color Guard
mingusmonk replied to oldbandguy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In this specific case the OP mentioned, they were going to terminate the usage of implements. With the possible exception of swing flags. The good news is that an agreement was made during a heated community meeting last night to retain color guard and add a dance group. -
Multiple Corps Auditions “Urban Legend”?
mingusmonk replied to JimF-LowBari's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
1. If you are getting cut by a top 6 (roughly) corps and the staff thinks you have potential but you need to close the gap, they are going to encourage to you get in a full season somewhere before coming back next year. 2. As said before, there is really just one "ring-chaser" destination. And they aren't taking drum corps rookies unless they have an incredibly established pedigree. 3. If you have a "dream corps," and they cut you, and you sit for the summer, you're not doing yourself any favors for next year's only-audition at again your dream corps. Playing is playing. But the experience of sustained movement skills at the World Class level is not something you can replicate at home. 4. If you absolutely want to experience drum corps, you should have a multi-audition plan. I did this over 30 years. ago. I had 4 groups in mind, in order. Missed the cut at group 1. Made the cut at group 2 and made that my home. -
Vintage DCI at 2023 BOA Grand Nationals
mingusmonk replied to Quad Aces's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Mason next-leveled the guard/musician integration to where it was beyond integration. Just one. The visual demands on Avon winds performers is wild. Constant intricately choreographed movement. Remember when drum corps and bands started removing white lines down the pant-leg to reduce the readability? Avon put white lines on everyone's legs AND arms and killed it. Also, the year of the bassoon. -

Real ideas for sustainability & revenue

1 Transportation 2 Transportation 3 Transportation 4 Transportation (depending on the suitability of ST location for actually hosting a clinic) 5 Transportation Still cheaper than driving show-to-show across multiple state borders of course, but not as cut and dried as your first post example. -
Bobby Knight dies at 83
mingusmonk replied to 2muchcoffeeman's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The player that Bobby Knight threw the chair at was Steve Reid, who went to Purdue. And graduated from Purdue. Although he did briefly attend Kansas State. My father was at this game. The player that Bobby Knight choked was Neil Reed. He was the one that also attended Southern Miss. The many points of abuse and bullying by Coach Knight can be confusing. -

DCI and SOA being sued?
mingusmonk replied to CadetDood's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
This very case is bound to get into the territory of law enforcement involvement. While it may seem black and white: Called police = justice was served, the details and timelines of this incident that were shared initially will likely show the grey areas and pitfalls of those assumptions. -
The worst of it was through the Wabash valley. This is the current state of electrical power. I'm in that 45k outage zone. Good news is, we have power. Bad news is a tree fell and brought water into the kitchen, master bed, and master bath.

When one judge calls the show
mingusmonk replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Y'all have some wild ideas about how judges view both their individual roles and how their piece fits into the final outcome. -
When one judge calls the show
mingusmonk replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
When there is a double panel of 8 judges and you're looking at only 2 groups that end up spread by 0.038, it seems odd to lay that on one judge. -
High School Band Directors and Drum Corps
mingusmonk replied to PopcornEater1963's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
My Indiana band director used to load up kids to take to drum corps shows. His son marched drum corps. We were also ISSMA contenders (different lass than you). We didn't do BOA. People marched Regiment, Cavaliers. Star, Glassmen, Bluecoats, Crossmen. But nobody would have dared march drum corps will *in* his high school program. I marched in high school with 20+ people that marched drum corps AFTER graduating. I once drove with a friend from Indiana, overnight. Friday night into Saturday morning, straight to Baltimore for a spring drum corps camp. We were 17 years old and it was just to 2 of us. He would have given us F's if we missed his band concert. Then again, his son became a regular ISSMA state championship band director elsewhere. And when I worked for him, he allowed students march drum corps. No problem. -
Professional Drum and Bugle Corps!
mingusmonk replied to Keith Hall's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Much like DCI, the NCAA is simply the member organizations. There is zero reason for those individual schools to partner and share dollars with outside organizations. Drum corps have nothing financially to offer the NCAA schools. It isn't the NCAA's choice to allow NIL. They are required to allow it by law. If they had a choice (which they did for decades) they would keep 100% of that athlete-earned money for themselves. If the law changed tomorrow, they would gladly stop direct deposits tomorrow night. -
