For once I don't care of it's new or old work... but if it's old please make it this:

Love seeing Bloo at the cutting edge. 😎

Another favorite! Although I lean to the original. Probably because of the percussion?

Cool. I didn't know that about the Bluecoats. Which Bloo shows?

    2005
    Ombra (from Cirque du Soliel)
    Incantation (from Quidam)

    2006
    Distorted (from La Nouba)

    2012
    Love Dance (from Ka)
Filet (from La Reve) - Not exactly cirque du soliel, but a cirque-adjacent program that was also composed by Benoit Jutras

What I gleaned from the blog was that the corps won despite of someone.  Not because of someone.

And that’s really all I have to say.

In reality, I think that is an accurate sentiment to have. But I didn't feel like that was what the author produced.  Especially a brief and dismissive ...

And then knocking both products that came after GH's departure.

I'm not prodding you to continue in response. I have always had a lot of respect for you and wouldn't dare! ❤️😆 Most of the talk in this thread was about "will they return." And I wasn't seeing any other critique of the author's work, so it seemed like a relevant point to chime in.

I think this is just a change in the "labeling" or marketing of the ensemble. I'm sure the "Dance Company" will still utilize all weapons (equipment) at their disposal. (We have dance line members that also perform & compete with our winter guard.) Just my thoughts & opinion. 🤔

ex: historical titles such as flag corps = color guard, etc...

In this specific case the OP mentioned, they were going to terminate the usage of implements. With the possible exception of swing flags.

The good news is that an agreement was made during a heated community meeting last night to retain color guard and add a dance group.

  5. 1. If you are getting cut by a top 6 (roughly) corps and the staff thinks you have potential but you need to close the gap, they are going to encourage to you get in a full season somewhere before coming back next year.

    2. As said before, there is really just one "ring-chaser" destination. And they aren't taking drum corps rookies unless they have an incredibly established pedigree.

    3. If you have a "dream corps," and they cut you, and you sit for the summer, you're not doing yourself any favors for next year's only-audition at again your dream corps. Playing is playing. But the experience of sustained movement skills at the World Class level is not something you can replicate at home.

    4. If you absolutely want to experience drum corps, you should have a multi-audition plan. I did this over 30 years. ago. I had 4 groups in mind, in order. Missed the cut at group 1. Made the cut at group 2 and made that my home.

Fishers high school was incredible and underrated at last place in finals. Saw them live about 4 times this year. Too bad Vandergrift and Tarpon Springs didn't come, but Avon, Carmel, Hebron, Mason, Woodlands, and all the bands were just incredible.  The brass playing is sublime, and the woodwinds play a lot of intricate music very well. This is as close to a national champion marching band contest as can be.

The huge trend this year was outstanding soloists and small ensemble work. Blue Springs had a fantastic soloist. Hebron had incredible herald trumpets and brass in general. Mason had incredible woodwind soloists. Fishers was no slouch either with that bass trombone feature and Christmas show. Just tasty music.

4 of these finalists were from the Indianapolis suburbs, which blows my mind.

Mason next-leveled the guard/musician integration to where it was beyond integration. Just one.

The visual demands on Avon winds performers is wild. Constant intricately choreographed movement. Remember when drum corps and bands started removing white lines down the pant-leg to reduce the readability? Avon put white lines on everyone's legs AND arms and killed it.

Also, the year of the bassoon.

When you’re not renting trucks and busses to move things, you’re saving money. So they rented the trucks a busses to get people to ST (a day rental), the sent them away to save a months rental.  They only then had to spend on food and housing.

1 Get that corps out playing appearances at minor league ball games

    2 playing firemen’s parades

    3 fair opening days

4 Let them offer some clinics for students in the local area

5 combine those with some concerts in the park.

    1 Transportation

    2 Transportation

    3 Transportation

4 Transportation (depending on the suitability of ST location for actually hosting a clinic)

    5 Transportation

Still cheaper than driving show-to-show across multiple state borders of course, but not as cut and dried as your first post example.

Neil Reid. The player that Bobby Knight threw the chair at, transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi, where I went to college. We were actually pretty good, lost in the finals of the CUSA tournament. (I cant remember if it was to Cincinnati or Marquette with Dwayne Wade, all of my college year memories are mixing together)

Just thought I would share my highly tertiary connection to Bobby Knight.

The player that Bobby Knight threw the chair at was Steve Reid, who went to Purdue. And graduated from Purdue. Although he did briefly attend Kansas State. My father was at this game.

The player that Bobby Knight choked was Neil Reed. He was the one that also attended Southern Miss.

The many points of abuse and bullying by Coach Knight can be confusing.

I don't bump often, but I feel like I need to for this.  I've listened to the "Shall We Gather at the River" arrangement that tedrick posted a lot over the past few days, and that last 30 seconds is just brilliant arranging.  The whole thing is magical, but that add 2 chord at the end is pure bliss.

VOCES8 are doing a show in town next week. My son's choir is having a private clinic with them!

Secondly, I don't understand why a few people seem to think that organizations like SafeSport, MAASIN or even DCI itself have legal powers they choose not to use.  Their hearts are clearly in the right place, but none of them have anything approaching legal powers.   Only law enforcement has those, which is why we should encourage all members to seek immediate help from law enforcement as soon as something occurs.  Law enforcement is quite aggressive at going after predators but they need to be informed asap when there is an incident.

Member safety needs to get a lot better.

Victims have myriad reasons not to go directly to law enforcement after being abused.

Law enforcement does not always act aggressively to bring justice to victims, though movements like Me Too and decades of activism before that have made it better.  But it still needs to get a lot better.  As it does, you'll see an increase in victims going to law enforcement more quickly.

Any conversation begins there.  Anything else is people reframing their victim blaming.

This very case is bound to get into the territory of law enforcement involvement. While it may seem black and white: Called police = justice was served, the details and timelines of this incident that were shared initially will likely show the grey areas and pitfalls of those assumptions.

Yeah. The derecho went south of where I am in Ft. Wayne but it was a nasty bow echo

The worst of it was through the Wabash valley. This is the current state of electrical power. I'm in that 45k outage zone. Good news is, we have power. Bad news is a tree fell and brought water into the kitchen, master bed, and master bath.

Oh that mobile lab is a very cool idea.

After Crown's "show app" i keep waiting for some corps to work with an app developer and make one of those sampling/noodling apps only with tracks using brass and percussion bits.   Throw that out there to the digitial generation on phones and let them create loops and stuff that explore the range of brass and percussion ensemble sounds like some of the digital music things do for electronic music.

Surf may be the one to jump for such an innvoation actually. This lab is a super cool thing and they were on board for that drumcorps take of a pop song awhile back too.

Might end up with something like this.

There really wasn't much overlap in my HS band in Indiana and Drum Corps in the 80s if only because our summer schedule didn't permit double doing. We had a LOT go on to do DCI after graduation though, Star, Bluecoats, Cavies, Madison.

When Star came on the scene, it was much easier for some crossover.  I can think of one marcher who did DCI and NOT our band cause "our show was so simple and rehearsals were waste."   But we had two marchers I can remember who did do our band shows. One from Cavies who, interestingly, marched alto sax with us.  He did brass of some sort with Cavies.  And one Mello player who marched with Star.  They both joined us after the DCI season ended and thus after our band camp when we had most all the show learned. But they were SUPER fast learners because, frankly, even though we were a BOA national finalist and ISSMA state contender, our show was easy compared to what DCI did.

They elevated our rehearsal attitudes.  They were pure professionals with zero wasted time on the field during practices and although neither were seniors, in both cases the senior class section leaders idolized them (we all were enamored with DCI) and adopted the 'don't waste time you could be doing x' when your section wasn't being directly worked with on the field.

I remember running the tenor saxes in a line drill over and over and over (we were the front line in a block on the first move and set the blocks movement). even though staff weren't working with us directly

My Indiana band director used to load up kids to take to drum corps shows. His son marched drum corps. We were also ISSMA contenders (different lass than you). We didn't do BOA. People marched Regiment, Cavaliers. Star, Glassmen, Bluecoats, Crossmen. But nobody would have dared march drum corps will *in* his high school program. I marched in high school with 20+ people that marched drum corps AFTER graduating. I once drove with a friend from Indiana, overnight. Friday night into Saturday morning, straight to Baltimore for a spring drum corps camp. We were 17 years old and it was just to 2 of us. He would have given us F's if we missed his band concert.

Then again, his son became a regular ISSMA state championship band director elsewhere. And when I worked for him, he allowed students march drum corps. No problem.

I personally think DCI should continue as it is; and, try to work out a deal with NCAA to receive funding. I truly believe that DCI should remain as a more education/high performance level activity for 14-21 year young adults, since what’s so special about the activity. Drum corps does indeed make a young adult a much better person.

Much like DCI, the NCAA is simply the member organizations. There is zero reason for those individual schools to partner and share dollars with outside organizations. Drum corps have nothing financially to offer the NCAA schools.

I think that the NCAA and others are incorrect in paying a person for their (NIL) Name, Image and Likeness. And then, that same person who receives the NIL payments opts out of the final competition. Drum corps is different!!!

It isn't the NCAA's choice to allow NIL. They are required to allow it by law. If they had a choice (which they did for decades) they would keep 100% of that athlete-earned money for themselves. If the law changed tomorrow, they would gladly stop direct deposits tomorrow night.
