  1. Saw my first Open Class show in Rice Lake, Wi. I was blown away by Genesis and Spartans. It's so nice to see a show and actually recognize the music!!!!
  2. Where can I find current Open class rankings? Not included on DCP or DCI that I can find. Also, Where is the listing of participants in Open class prelims?
  3. Oops! Been off the planet for a while! This person must not ride MARTA very often! It is by far the safest transportation in the city. (Driving in traffic here is just nuts!) Yeah you have your crazies out there, but much has been done lately regarding safety issues.
  4. Does anyone have a corps housing list for the Atlanta show?
  5. From where I was sitting tonight - Row 23 on the 20 yardline I could hear absolutely nothing. Please get rid of it completely!
  6. All I can say is WOW! How do you judge 120 guards and pick the best 15! I'd like to see WGI think about splitting this class one more time to give those kids the extra chance to make finals or have some qualifying rounds prior to WGI to limit the number of guards in this class. I am sure most of the finalists will be promoted for next year to SO. I am personally so proud of the 3 Marietta, Georgia guards in finals representing SAPA in this class! Way to go Pope, Lassiter and Kell!! Y'all ROCK!
  7. I had two cousins who marched colorgard for Belvederes - they lived in Lebanon Pa. (Ann and Mary) I'm in Atlanta GA and we always had so much fun comparing notes. One of them taught me how to spin rifle!! I don't see them as often, but I'll pass along this info about the alumni corps. I march in Atl. Corpsvets guard and still have a great time at age 46!!
  8. I think maces would be kewl - Star of Indiana did use them for a portion of their British show (cant recall year) At DCA last year, there was a mace caption for I&E and those guys were flawless!!
  9. I think it is a great idea however DCA is always held over labor day weekend - most of the corps are not together any more and the younger members are in school. The cost of funding a "DCA junior" championship earlier in the summer would prob. not make it worth while. Good Idea Though! The best way to improve one organization is to have competition from another! (DCI vs DCA)
  10. NOBODY - Hopefully narration will go away like it pretty much has in winterguard!
  11. Just Curious??!! Why did no other corps object to the hash marks or lack there of? Didn't the Cavaliers go on right before the Cadets? Just wondering!!
  12. I must say that Pioneer is a class act! Hang in there guys - looking forward to seeing you next season. Whatever division a corps decides compete in should not matter. WGI has six national competitive classes and even more on the local circuit level. I do not see WGI treating any of its winterguard classes with any lack of respect as does DCI. We the fans need to express to DCI that if it weren't for these corps, there would not be much of a DCI at all. I am surprised that some Div II/III parent organizations have not stormed DCI for more recognition of these great corps.
  13. I have to agree that DCI is dying - I feel that it is the kids. I think from some of the responses from the younger folk that kids are VERY different now - they have their Ipods, cell phones and internet. Why in the world would they need to march! I was able to catch several rehearsals in Atlanta this year and I was blown away by the number of kids just walking off the field when they felt like it to use the rest room or whatever. This is what breaks are for! I took over a small band program this year where the kids would rather "socialize at the mall" on Friday nights than march. (95 kids in the band program, only 30 marching!) DCI has changed about everything from the past that could possibly change and it scares me to death. Maybe I have outgrown DCI? Who knows - but it really saddens me. I have been in a DCA corps for the past 3 seasons and have had more entertainment there than I have from DCI since around 2000. Give me 1977 27th Lancers any day!!! - I really hate when younger kids who look at one video tape can make judgements about drill etc. Zingali was such an innovator back in the day! I remember the day when Cadets, Cavaliers, and others were not in the top 12. Only one show this year really got my heart beating. Thank you Carolina Crown for your efforts this season.
  14. IMO - if it's good, it's good! Things usually come full circle so I predict that things will swing back to an "older" style. WGI seems to be doing this as many guards are now re-focusing on more equipment work and less dance. I'd love to see SCV bring back the Bottle dance one year - BD sort of went back this year with the wings. I'd like to see a corps have the gonads to put the guard back in the corps uni with a shako!! (If even for a small part of the show)
  15. Nice Thoughts!! I have marched CV 5 years and I decided to sit this year out, though very sorry I did!! (job, aging parents etc.) They are doint a great job and I'll be back next year!! Hunter does a super job on the solo as he was the one who made it famous in the 80's with Spirit. Back to the subject - Cadets doing Cadets - WSS 84 vs. WSS 94 - Awesome!! Vanguard doing "Short Ride" which Cadets Introduced ^OO^ Madison's "Hall of the mountain king" a few years ago - Prob. had some Regiment alums scratching their heads!!
