  1. Ya know, I honestly believe that if Phantom did New World Symphony in 89 AND 90, they would have won. Just a hunch, not sure where I got it from. As far as Glassmen go, it's drum corps, nothing sounds like the original. He'd be cool with it. That, or he'd sue, but that's how it goes. My real problem with that show is it was just arranged so weird. I don't know if it was jazz trying to be new world symphony or glassmen tryiing to be jazz, but it just didn't seem as fun as it could have been. But I'll admit, I'm biased. I loved Phantom 89, which really didn't help my opinion of Glassmen in 05, and on that note, no one from Denver in 05 wasn't really the biggest fan of the Glassmen. My two cents. This guy looks cool, he's going in. Very nice, looking good, sort of a ninja smiley kinda dude. K, I'm done.
  2. Not that you'll see them in San Antonio, which I can't wait to fly to!, but Academy has got one awesome sound! When I saw them both nights in SoCal, it was awesome. What makes it cool, in my mind, is every time I've ever seen the Academy live, they have always gone on after all of the Divison 2/3 groups. Either last year, they went on just before the D1s, or this year when they were first of all the D1s. So here I am, enjoying D2/3, and out comes this AMAZING corps that, no offense to any D2/3, but blows them out of the water in size, sound, visual and, um...smell. Ya, they smelled great, sure, why not. Anyways, I just love seeing them! On that note, their show this year rocks!! Great way for them to rock in the D1! I knew it was going to be awesome, but sitting in the stands, watching the count off, waiting to hear something great, and instead being treated to a bunch of rifle tosses was awesome! And then when I was saying "wow, that was a cool way to start the show" they play loud, and just go into loud and fast, and big loud hit. Fun show, good times. K, back to work. Hmm...I'm still new on DCP, so I'm going to use this little guy he seems cool.
  3. Hey guys, I'm afraid I just don't get this whole thing. It sounds like a great place, I personally have never been there. What I don't get though is, why is only the first round for D2/3 there? I thought the whole finals week thing was one venue for all or nothing. It seems to me like all three days should be held at this new place. Any logic why that is? It just feels like, since the actual final contest is somewhere else, that this is more just another show, rather than the beginning of finals.
  4. I agree, troop's taking this show. Wait, what? Gonna be a good time, but I don't think Phantom's up to the task just yet. Give them two more weeks, and they'll probably be able to take them both down. Personal opinion.
  5. I found that somewhere online, but it wasn't on amazon yet. I love reading GM's book and can't wait to read this one. You say they are selling it at Vanguard's booth? Did anyone read the Loin solo? Not enough drum corps I thought, and I hated it wasn't a true story, but great book. I read both over and over again. GM's is pretty much destroyed I've read it so many times. I tried writing my own, but forgot to bring a tape recorder, so every day in 05 I tried to call home and leave myself a voicemail. I kept forgetting though, and only left two, but they were hilarious to hear when I got home.
  6. Ha! Right when I saw hockey puck I knew where that guy marched! Wow, I forgot how much I missed drum corps food. I had a great one when I saw the title, and now have like ten stories I want to list! At BK in 05, after we broke 70 they celebrated by giving us a Hawaiin Luau. There was enough for everyone to have fourths, and the pulled pork and every side you can think of and the pineapple dessert thing was awesome! But now I forgot about PC's breakfast pucks. And in 04 they didn't make enough meat and cheese for the burrito bar one day, and I didn't like any of the other sides they had, so I decided right then and there I had to learn to like something new very fast cuz I was hungry! I love sour cream now more than life! And in 05, during finals week, the support staffs divided into teams to make the best breakfast. Bus drivers actually had an omelette bar with all the fixings and they made whatever we wanted. Cook staff got us a big thing of iced cappacino and a whole bunch of pastries and dunkin donuts (ya Rhode Island!), and Mark Arnold and his gang got us like 300 egg McMuffins. Great week! And I still love and will never ever stop loving PBJ! Man, I want some drum corps food now. Anything....teriyaki meatloaf, or nacharoni. Oh, grilled cheese and tomato soup. We got rained out in South Dakota and were stuck on the bus, and the guard brought us all a sandwich and a cup of soup. Freakin rocked! This whole being aged out thing sucks! I'm going to make a pbj
  7. The "prep" we did at PC and BK has always been around at PC, at least since in 03. In 04 and before that they did an "and" prep, so it was less readable. They changed it to a 1 count prep in 05. The difference between BK and PC is BK goes all the way up on the toes, where PC leaves the ball of the foot on the ground, so it only goes up about 2 or 3 inches. My feelings on PC this season. Pacific Crest is a contendor for Semis, and if they work hard enough I think they have a shot at finals. A small shot, but a shot. I've been thinking about this ever since my one season there, and Pacific Crest practiced in 04 WAY less than any other division 1 corps and performed in about half as many shows as any division 1 corps. We had a day off about once a week, half days about twice a week. 2003 was the same schedule as 2004. And the placements were 17th and 19th, respectively. And we didn't even leave California (except for a day trip to northern Nevada and a day trip to Phoenix) until the last week in July. So here's my opinion. Practicing less and performing less, PC still held their own against several Division 1 drum and bugle corps. Over the past few years they have upped their practice schedule to more rehearsals, including camps. They have upped their hornline (64 this year!). Their tour has drastically increased to include so much more of the country and definitly more shows than ever before. And to top it off, they do have somewhat of a home field advantage on finals week (somewhat...we all know hometown favorites don't always do so hot...2002 and 2005 come to mind). But my point is that if PC can hold their own basically being part time (and yes, I was there. I hate to say it, but we were basically part time a few years ago, which is why I moved to BK at the time), then I have no doubts in what they are going to be able to accomplish in their full time routine this year and in years to come. So there's my long two cents. Shoot, I wonder if the IT department at work has realized I'm writing on DCP all day... p.s. I'm also from Las Vegas. PC's show rocks for that reason...except their opener is very similar to the opener we played at UNLV for pregame....Viva!
  8. I actually like some ballads, depending on the show. But as far as not having a ballad, and really just playing one long instense closer of absolute crazy mad absurdness with energy and power and jazz running across the field at 210 bpms with pass throughs and back flips and monkeys flying on tigers strapped to cannons... I think it would be awesome, except everyone would be dying by mid show, and the actual closer would just sound and look exhausted! The majority of injuries in a season come from rehearsing the craziest part of your show. If the entire show was the craziest part of the show, there would only be a few people still able to march it on finals night, and I still say they would be ready to die by minute 6. That aside, an all closer show would be amazing if you took out the whole human factor. Maybe robot drum corps could handle it.
  9. That was the year they went to Europe, right? Does anyone know if they said all of the narration in other languages at those shows? I don't imagine they did, but I've been curious. On that note...does anyone know how to say yowza in french?
  10. Finals almost got rained out in 05. We got pushed back about 20 minutes, which threw off our whole routine. It was pretty funny though watching us troop onto the field and just kinda make a U-Turn back into the tunnel. It started pouring and lightning and thunder during our closer, to the point where ushers were forcing people to get up and leave during our performance for safety reasons. I love drum corps fans though....most people refused to leave, but compromised by standing up, so they could leave once we were done. I just remember playing my last night and slamming that horn down and looking up to see not a single person sitting in their seats but instead standing. But ya, they try to push it back. I've seen pictures from old finals tickets. Like from the mid 70's. They usually have a "this is the day we are moving finals to if it rains on the actual day" date on there. It's written in a slightly more sophisticated set of words though.
  11. My favorite part of this is that I'm not the only one who freaked out when they saw the scores last night. It was awesome, and I just don't think my friends or roommates got it. I went running, and had to listen to only Bluecoats the whole run. I love BD and Cavies are cool too, but just to see drum corps working like that is awesome. I would love it if every year every corps were within 2 points of eachother, digging it out for finals, and placements were rarely ever the same. That would be my ideal drum corps, and Bluecoats are really breaking up the mix. Man, what an awesome season!
  12. I would definitly like to see Pacific Crest in semis this year, and even finals. They hold their own every year without doing a full tour. I can't wait to see what happens this season, after pulling their most extensive tour ever and having finals in their back yard! In regards to Stephanie....you marched Pacific Crest AND Blue Knights? You just became one of the coolest people I know now, congrats! I marched PC in 04 and BK in 05. I didn't try to do it in one crazy season like you, and 99 was an awesome year for both of those corps, but wow, that's awesome!
  13. Well, I actually just booked my plane ticket and called some aged out buddies to come pick me up for the San Antonio show, so I guess we will see. So, wait, the corps that takes second place will win DCI finals? That's the night show I'm guessing. Well, I guess it will be curious to see. I really hope Star takes second!...oh, wait...
  14. Ya, I forget who said it up there, but it has to do with how the corps is incorporated. DCI.org changed it, but Cavies and Cadets both used to be at the bottom of the list of the corps because they were "The Cavaliers" and "The Cadets" even though Blue Devils and Blue Knights were under B. Some announcers will say "The Blue Knights" at shows when they introduce the corps, that really all depends on the announcer, but the one that will never change is "(Corps Name), may take the field for competition." That's right when the judging starts, and there's a rule in DCI's official rule book, for legal purposes, that says it. It will always be "The Cavaliers, may take the field" and "Blue Devils, may take the field" etc. On that note, and this is why the rule exists, if someone said "The Blue Devils may take the field for competition," which is wrong, and BD lost, they could technically have the score thrown out because they were never actually announced, so they didn't know they were being judged. They are "Blue Devils," not "The Blue Devils."
  15. Pacific Crest usually flys to finals anyways, but I agree with that. At least Indiana is somewhat central as far as all things go in 08. And hey, at least Star of Indiana will save a whole lot of money driving home, right?... ....oh, wait
  16. Yup, it's all added, looks awesome! Thanks! Hey, is there any way to incorporate something similar, but by caption?
