  1. Weber is my favorite drill designer, followed closely by Gaines. I'm fine however this shakes out, though from both I'd like to see a little more of their mid 00s work come back to light.
  2. A wino once explained to me that the wine I was drinking tasted bad, and that his sophisticated wine (which I really didn't care for despite its cost) was superior. And since the differences between the two could only be noticed by someone who had worked so hard to develop their pallet, like him, I'd just have to trust him over my own senses. The thing is, that explanation did not make me enjoy his wine any more, nor enjoy my wine any less. If this is ignorance, I'm happy living in ignorance while enjoying the wine, and the drum corps, I like.
  3. Alright team, work day ends and I'm signing off. Enjoy semis, and I'll be signed in to BS with everyone during Finals tomorrow. Happy 2018 drum corps season DCP!
  4. 45 questions about random knocking, and not a single joke about Spirit's show. Their season really is over. :(
  5. When everything went down in spring with He Who Must Not Be Named, I had one wish - that Cadets go out and make this season absolutely incredible, showing that their legacy is based solely on outstanding drum corps. 2018 Cadets, you have officially granted my wish. Thank you for being an incredible corps!
  6. I'm a proud alum, and this is a very strong corps, but I'm really thinking the design team peaked in '15 and still hasn't been able to recover. Also I like that the Colts helmet is wearing a hat.
  7. Two spaces up, one to the side. Or one space up, two to the side. Both are legal moves. I think I missed the joke.
  8. So what do you think Mandarins are going to do tomorrow? Not actually at Finals, I'm talking about life, right after.
  9. Well Spirit, thanks for an incredible season and a magnificent show. Crossmen, beat Phantom. Phantom, get a better design in '19. Mandarins, stay in 10, I still want the Blue Knights ahead of you. And wow, I'm super surprised Colts topped Academy! Both corps should be immensely proud of their season though!
  10. I'm a Dvorak fan purely because of 89. I can respect this.
  11. Agreed, the problem is definitely in the design, not the performers. That sucks though. That's like exactly what happened between Force Awakens and Last Jedi. Someone got to pick up the legacy, and rather than keep it going, they tried to reinvent it. That's cool sometimes, but if people are looking for that legacy, you either need to deliver, or deliver something that's so impressive that the legacy is forgotten. This achieves neither.
  12. I just can't get into this show. Also there's still glimmers of Phantom in the sound, agreed, but that visual package, and the guard especially, I don't even know if I'd call that Finals worthy. What's happened to this program? Rick was in charge in 08, right, so at least the guy at the top has stuck with it. Any insights? I'd love to see a competitive Phantom playing Phantom shows again.
  13. In an activity where headgear has become super controversial, hoodies was a very cool compromise. Especially if you used to always wear helmets.
  14. I'll give Brandt Crocker credit. Whether they're in 2nd or 10th, he always announces Phantom with the same excitement and energy.
  15. Drum Corps Semis should happen every Friday while I'm at the office. How do we make that happen?
  16. Who was that asking for someone to design a show with the Colts helmet in mind? Looks like Mandarins heard you!
  17. I'm still waiting for that fat lady, but there's a good chance you're right. Fingers crossed we finally get that legendary 13th spot thanks to a tie. I just don't want to close the door on the Atlanta team yet.
  18. I was going to post this in the Semis discussion, but it seems to make more sense here. Mandarins have a LONG dance feature number to open their show. That's a LONG chunk of show that the brass did not need to rehearse all season. In my mind, that's strategic, and here we are looking at a solid Finals contender as a result. Everything you do in life, the juice needs to be worth the squeeze. Mandarins have that figured out this year.
