  1. I remember back when I was 8 years old at summer camp there was this pool toy called "The Blob". Child #1 would sit on the blob. The Child #2 would jump off a platform onto the other side of the blob, launching Child #1 into the air and subsequently into the pool. (See images below.) Before "blobbing", Child #2 would always ask "Are you ready?" and Child #1 would always respond "I'm always ready!" I always thought we had just made up the saying-it seemed like the obvious thing to say...little did I know we were quoting a long held tradition started by the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps.
  2. He's 2 inside the 40. Who said I'm a "fan"?
  3. I just like it because, it's a sweet drill move regardless of the fact that it's all around a soloist. It's a similar move to the one from the whistling section from their 007 show where the bubble moves through the block centered around the guard member. When I watch it, my eyes go immediately to the drill move and it almost seems like a bonus that the trumpet soloist is in the middle of the bubble. It's like Michael Gaines said, "Oh...I randomly put the trumpet soloist at the focal point of the drill move?...sweet." Gable
  4. Cavaliers EnCorps! video (2:44-2:55): You've got to be kidding me!?!?!? * He's appears/solo starts * Sweet drill move happens around him * Solo ends/he's gone Seriously, this is brilliant. Best soloist staging I've ever seen. How many seconds in the show prior to this do you think the drill/staging was planned? Gable P.S. - Sorry I'm adding so many topics....it's just that when I watch the EnCorps! videos I get giddy. This is my last one... I promise.
  5. Can I close the thread myself, so George will stop complaining? (jk) In any case euponitone gave a pretty convincing answer..so I'm happy. L8Z, Gable
  6. Seriously though, does anyone else think that SCV's visual program this year is insanely pleasing? (And it's getting clean!!!) Pete Weber + Sly = b**bs b**bs b**bs Why is it so pleasing? You tell me.... Gable PS - ya ya.... I know it is SCV and not SVC (no way to edit the topic title)....anyway...you get the point...i suck/SCV/SVC rocks
  7. This is not about the Cadets narration. This is about their show's theme and specific plot elements. It should not be considered pro/con or even about the fact that there is narration in their show. It is really quite different. Gable
  8. First off, let me say that after watching the Atlanta show EnCorps! video I am really digging many parts of the Cadets show. The drill is freaking sweet, and probably my favorite that I can remember seeing from them. Secondly, while the narration/show theme may or may not be my favorite, I really do appreciate that they are definitely trying something new. A show like this is truly unprecedented. After 1 viewing I have two fairly specific questions. They aren't meant to be negative. I'm really just inquiring because I don't know the answer. (I don't expect anyone on DCP to have a definite answer either, but I thought I'd see what you all think.) 1) At 4:09 (EnCorps! video time) the story being told by the young lady is not really clear to me. Seems to be flubbed in some way, but since I've only viewed this show once I am not sure if it's supposed to be like this. So the questions are: *If this was indeed a flub, did it hurt the Cadets? *Would they have won the show without this mistake? (Guess you'd have to go to the critique to find out for sure...but let me know what you think.) 2) At 8:26 (EnCorps! video time) the young lady says, "...Let's try a...six", and the weapon block throws their weapons. The second guard member back on the 35 yard line takes a few steps out of his position to catch the toss (and he's slow to return to his original position). Then the young man responds, "...Uhhhh....No". So the questions are: *Was the guard member on the 35 yard line doing what he was supposed to in the context of the show's plot, causing the dismay of the young man? *Or, was this a genuine mistake by the guard member in the context of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps' Atlanta Southeastern Regional performance. *If it was an actual mistake, did it get pardoned by the judges due to its fortunate context within the Cadets show? *With/Without this mistake would the Cadets have scored better/worse and won/stayed the same/done worse at the show? I don't think there is a correct answer to these questions, since a drum corps show about the show itself is not really precedented. In any case, discuss.... Gable
  9. Which drum corps is most like Harry? Voldemort? Can you correlate each drum corps with a character??? Challenge is on.
  10. How will the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows affect drum corps for the next few weeks??? *Will members be able to concentrate? *Will fans be able to concentrate?!?! *If Voldemort dies, will members be so elated that their performance level significantly increases?!?!?!?!?!? *What if Harry dies?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  11. The difference in difficulty is debatable, but I think I made my point. Although unchecked by others, it seems that you have done a good job of mapping the moments when given corps simultaneously march and play at various speeds (rated subjectively). Making a direct extension of this analysis to the "difficulty" of a show is not possible in my opinion. ^0^ ^0^ ^0^ ^0^ :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
  12. I'm curious. From a difficulty standpoint alone, how do people feel the following scenario would rank? All with your favorite brass instrument: *Run a 100 meter dash at full speed. *Stop immediately with perfect posture and sustain a concert F (or note of choice) with great tone for 5 seconds. *Repeat *Continue repeating for 12 min The given scenario would involve 0 seconds of moving while playing, but in my opinion would be extremely difficult. This is not meant to be pro or con Cavaliers. I just hadn't seen this point made yet and wondered if the OP and other people think this would be hard?
  13. Yep! Number of sets = Number of beats in the show. If you don't know where you are on every beat, then you are wrong.
