  1. She is hot, I was there and saw both. The simple fact is that no G Mellophone could ever sound as good as that Bb Flugel he played on. I have not heard any professional get that quality of soundn on a flugel. You must remeber the mellophone is not a legitimate instrument, and is only used on the field.
  2. I have been in the activity for quite some time, and I have never heard such a pure, I mean absolutely pure tone. Quarter finals was flawless! Folks, this is the kind of candidate who should be considered for the Hall of Fame. Too many instructors! In the NFL you have more players than coaches represented, and I think DCI should try to follow in their steps, with more performers than instructors. To this young man, BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. 1981, like Rich D, would say, enough said!
  4. She was truly amazing. Who was the Blue Devil girl (lower lead), that l went to De Anza with me for 2 year? I will never forget when I found out she was deaf (a year later). She was so good at reading lips and talking I never knew. That still absolutely blows me away. She was a babe too.
  5. Playing everyday is like being a good Catholic, you have to be dedicated and want to do it. I have been doing it for the last 5 years. I have found that bananas are an important part of my playing. Especially during auditions. Potasium for the lips and beta blockers(from the Banana) for the nerves. Try two bananas after three run throughs, and the next morning you will be stronger, and closer to Double C's. Everyone needs to play horn at least a little bit, Mouth piece in the car! Its all good. As for bananas, I think Charlie Anderson turned me on to them. Funny, he was a marching instructor.
  6. Larrie Dastrup a Blue Devil was the best soloist (Dindi) then comes Jim Brady with Bridgeman 77-78. Bonnie Ott (Legend of the One Eye Sailor) is right up there. I would of loved to hear her play a siver horn. (King)
  7. Blue Devils were pretty loud in 79 and 80, but I would have to say the "Loudest" was Spirit in 80. We lost one of the best, if not the best horn instructor ever, when Jim Ott passed. I could only imagine how his hornlines in the 90's would of sounded. Better yet, who would he be teaching now? Oh, I have to say something about 75 Madison (Company Front) was very loud.
