  1. This. I want exactly this in 2018...with a few props, a uniform change, and a couple color guard members.
  2. I watched Finals on Flomarching with my sister, who has not kept up on drum corps. I also said that any glitches with a corps' electronics should be reflected in their GE scores, to which she emphatically responded that technical difficulties are beyond the control of the members so the members should not suffer the consequences. Interesting point...but my sister is uninformed and generally not very bright...though I do love her dearly.
  3. My best guess is that this year won't be one of BD's legendary shows, though they certainly have plenty to their name. For sure, their win this year is defensible, as would have been an SCV win. No wrong answer among the top two.
  4. I've been saying all season that this will be the 2017 show we'll be talking about for decades to come regardless of the placements.
  5. I was bummed Vanguard wasn't tighter on Devils in the end, though I figured a Devils win was inevitable. That said, I never expected a silver medal before seeing them in June, so feeling really happy for the corps overall.
  6. No way will SCV be allowed to win it all...but they'll most likely medal.
  7. Means nothing as long as judges say it means nothing.
  8. The only thing that bores me more than Devils' shows are arguments about Devils shows. Blah blippidy bloo blah meh.
  9. I brought a first-timer, dancer friend to Riverside last weekend, former member of a dance troupe called Diavolo. His observation was that from an artistic standpoint Devils had a kitchen sink approach and SCV was more restrained. Sounds like the judges equate "more" with better GE.
  10. I was prepared to be really disappointed with Vanguard's new uniform (not ready to call it a costume yet), but after my first viewing of their show I told friends I was with that I feel like they are just as Vanguard as ever. Their staff nailed a very tough balance between integrity with their brand and history and a forward-thinking approach to this year's show.
  11. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who thought Crown's vocalist was way out of balance with the horn line. That said, she's a fine singer with good potential...though she suffers from "I don't know what to do with my hands" syndrome, which drives me nuts. Ugh. Hello bad community theater.
  12. There was a mello with BK in the '90s who had a partially developed hand. Did everything with the other hand. Played. Horn snaps. Body sculpting. Everything. That kid must have been crazy strong.
  13. I hate to be a downer...and I am an unabashed SCV superfan...but I feel like they never place well when they do more esoteric shows...99 being a big-time exception.
  14. Love Enigma. Love Nimrod. Have always loved it, even when I was a kid. The tension. The pathos. One of the most emotional pieces I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Maybe it's not for everyone.
  15. BD 1988 - "Happy Days" opener... I'm really not a big BD fan, but that's one of my favorite openers of all times. Slow build. Classy. Emotional. Loved it, and would love to see it live again.
  16. Kristi Spears - PR 1996 (?) Becky Whatshername - Star of Indiana 198? African American guy for SCV in mid-90s. Wish I could remember his name. He was great. Embodied SCV.
