  1. These kids execute so well and are so tough they make it easy to forget the hazards of this activity! Thanks for the explanation!
  2. I wouldn't say nothing when anyone gets hurt in any way or hit in the head full force during a practice run. She got up quickly and appeared ok but ended up with a raging headache and still has a sore spot and a goose egg. These kids are just on a mission and tough and unstoppable at this stage of the game all is well... Go Crown!
  3. Colts will post a detailed schedule here http://coltscooktruck.blogspot.com/ when it is available and they have access. Colts rehearsals are always open and friendly I am not familiar with Crossmen Crown does not post their detailed schedule on the internet so the only way to know is through a member but they have a stated practice of open rehearsals
  4. Classics for the show, pop for the encore, why not? It is a winning combo and shows how both can be enjoyable in their own way. Goodness knows we need crowd interest and participation from young and old to get people through the gate and sustain DCI. Not everyone wants to hear classical and classic pop all the time. Bring pop culture to the mix with classics and execute as well as Crown and all is well.
  5. I read they will action the pink plumes for the cause. Does anyone know how/when/details?

  7. OOPS! Trying to hurry. Fixed Glassmen! Sorry Glassmen. Let's give Colts some love here for holding in the top twelve and Troopers for being soooo close! San Antonio here we come. 8. Just for interest combining the shows. Colts and Troopers doing the happy dance back in the top twelve! Blue Stars wow! 1 Blue Devils 90.700 1 Holy Name Cadets 88.600 2 The Cavaliers 88.950 2 Carolina Crown 88.050 3 Santa Clara Vanguard 86.350 4 Bluecoats 85.450 3 Blue Stars 83.250 4 Phantom Regiment 83.050 5 Boston Crusaders 82.750 5 Blue Knights 81.200 6 Colts 77.700 7 Troopers 77.450 8 Madison Scouts 75.200 9 The Academy 75.150 10 Pioneer 70.150 11 Cascades 67.850 6 Glassmen 81.200 7 Spirit 75.050 8 Crossmen 74.250 9 Pacific Crest 71.750 10 Mandarins 70.100
  9. Sounds like from Facebook Crown is marching tonight if the weather holds.
  10. I would venture to say lots of these kids are the type that don't get sick very often much less miss a rehearsal or performance. There are seasoned vets down and out with this one. My kid is very close to being able to say never missed any part of a rehearsal and can say never missed a performance. I'd be willing to bet there are lots of those all over this activity. These kids are for the most part completely dedicated to the task. This is bad or they would be on the field, no doubt!!! I am sure your daughter and every one of them will be out there tonight if at all possible. At some point it is just not safe to risk getting hurt or hurting someone else by risking marching when you just shouldn't Gotta admire every one of them for what they endure to participate in this activity physically and mentally! I have always joked my child would have to be chained to a bed not to be on the field or the stage to perform. Sounds like that may be just the situation we have here and the administration is taking care to be safe and hopefully prevent it from getting any worse or anyone getting hurt.
  11. No news about whether they will perform tonight. They are rehearsing today for sure still leaving the sick ones behind to rest and recuperate. Don't know yet how many stayed behind today.
  12. Just talked to a well Crown member. They are being well cared for and this member is optimistic that things are completely under control. They rehearsed with about 25 holes today and the sick ones were isolated to rest. They have arrived at their housing site for tonight and are all going to bed with a mandatory early bedtime for a good rest. As usual, all is well with Crown even with the sickness. Gotta admire the open communication and good judgement. These are tough kids and they just want to get well and march and they will and be better than ever!
  13. Great advice above. One more mom tip- bathrooms well stocked with toilet paper and paper towels are greatly appreciated. A plunger came in handy both summers. They can only clean up after themselves if they have what they need to do it like access to brooms, sweepers for the gym floor, mops and again a plunger! Maintenance closets are often locked up tight for good reasons. The organization is a well oiled machine on a mission. These people are professionals and the members are well trained. It is good advice to not get in their way or get your feelings hurt when they carry on without your help. Be assured they will appreciate everything you can do even if you can't give them money or a meal! Small things can often matter the most. A piece of fruit per person or baggies of home baked goods. Again check with the tour director on these things. They appreciate hot water and good showers and access to school facilities as much as meals and donations. It is all important to them in their circumstances.
  14. They all love a hot shower! They get lots of cold showers. I guess schools turn the hot water heaters off during the summer to save $ and perhaps hosting band directors don't realize they are turned off. I have hosted a Div I corps for a major show the past two summers. Feel free to pm me for insider tips and any questions you have. You have the right ideas. It is getting more and more difficult for these corps to find housing for many reasons including school budget cuts and liability concerns. I tried unsuccessfully to get other local schools to host corps. It seems school administrators are very hesitant to open their doors in the summer for corps. Anyone out there that knows more about this please comment. I found the corps I hosted was hesitant to ask for anything more than their most basic needs and I had to anticipate a lot. Of course it was easier the second time around. Anything we did to make their stay more comfortable was greatly appreciated by the staff, members and volunteers. I got my insider tips from my member daughter and her friends. It is a very rewarding experience and the local kids were definitely inspired. If we could only make the administrators understand how good it is for their band programs and how well administrated these corps are I think more doors would open. You are very lucky, enjoy!
  15. Yeah, actually I think it is a euph. Guess I should have looked even closer...
  16. So I just wanted to say that if you look really close, you will notice that the picture is actually a trumpet player. It looks like a mello because there is a mellophone behind the trumpet and the bell of the trumpet is in the bell of the mellophone. Still a really cool picture though!
  17. Thanks, that is a great story! Will you be doing standings tonight? Go Colts!
  18. Bill S. promised to tell me that story. He says it is a good one. Go ahead.
  19. There are going to be some frustrated, angry hornets out here if that website is not up by webcast time. b**bs
  20. Are there public transportation options for getting to the Rose Bowl from downtown LA to avoid the 110? Looks like the Gold Line goes to Pasadena but the local buses thet go to and from the Rose Bowl shut down at 7 pm. They run specials for the Rose Bowl game, what about DCI? I can't find any info online.
