  1. "Dancers wear dancers belts" OK, time for me to weigh in. Crown has been having male marching members wear dancers belts since last year. They didn't ALL wear them in 2013, some did. Personally, I think they look better WITHOUT them. (The male guard members have probably worn them forever), I know this because I help with the sewing and part of what we do is distribute all the uniform parts to the members. There is no way around the fact that male marchers have what they have. Tight pants or stretchy pants are going to show it. Back in the pleated pants days, things didn't show because pants were not tight across that part of the body. I can also predict that stretchy pants are the wave of the future, for a lot of reasons. Whether people like it or not, there is going to be more and more dance (aka body movement) in the shows. These pants make all that so much easier for the performers. They are also a breeze to launder, and they don't have to be pressed. They are also much easier to alter. Laundering uniforms now takes only a fraction of the time it used to take (and we don't have to scrub the mud out of those cream pants anymore, either!! :)
  2. The preview is on Saturday June 13th. Exact time has not been announced yet.. on the Crown website, look under "news". This year it is called Family Day and Preview.
  3. They won't be throwing Frisbees at Satan, but the fabric parts of last years trampolines have been turned into nice bell protectors for the tubas!! :)
  4. I don't post on here very often, and I always get excited when I hear the new year's show music. But let me just say that this year, not only will BABIES be thrown, but their SIBLINGS as well. Also, if you're sitting in the stands, you better hold onto your seat because the person sitting next to you might GRAB YOU AND THROW YOU, TOO!!!!
  5. I like what I see in the background of that picture !
  6. I was also thinking that this is sounding more and more like INT !! :)
  7. It was 2010 crown center snare that was a girl-- but she had some kind of elbow problem that made her have to quit snare-- she played in the pit the last part of the season
  8. Actually, many corps are TECHNICALLY boy scout troups. Unless it changed this year, Crown members gets insurance (Maybe accident??) through being members of a scout troup.
  9. Crown doesn't get new uniforms every year. I have good reason to know- I'm one of the folks who helps do the alterations. They have been getting new uniforms every three years. They just accessorize them differently every year... By the end of the third year they definitely need replacing.
  10. One thing that not been discussed much is that even within a single corps, the "atmosphere" (for lack of a better word) may differ from year to year. Most years everything clicks and most of the members have an "amazing, wouldn't miss it for a million dollars" experience. Some years just don't seem quite so positive. And it doesn't seem to necessarily correlate with the corps' finals placement that year. 2010 seemed that way, to me, for a lot of the kids in Crown. Expectations seemed to be so high- as much from the members themselves as from anywhere else, and a lot of the kids just seemed to be uptight and not having as much fun as normal. 2011 seemed to be the polar opposite. The atmosphere was truly amazing. So someone auditioning in 2010 may have gotten a totally different impression of Crown than somebody auditioning in 2011. To the OP, if it's possible, attend camps at BOTH Crown and Cavies. In a couple of camps, you should get a pretty good picture of how things work and what the atmosphere is at each corps. You will also get a pretty good idea of whether you have a chance of getting a spot. And even if you don't happen to be a prodigy, sometimes you get a spot because the staff sees the POTENTIAL in you. My son auditioned for Crown for 2006, when he was 15. He turned 16 right before they went on tour. He aged out this past summer after marching his 6th season. He would probably be the first person to tell you that he was NOT a prodigy. I think the staff saw the gleam in his eye, saw how great his desire was to march Crown, and saw how willing he was to work hard to improve. Best of luck to you! Above all, march SOMEWHERE !
  11. Ah- there's NOT any pre-recorded Queen in Crown's pre-show. That's a member singing.
  12. I couldnt believe the weather last year for Nightbeat, it was cool, almost cold...weird for an August night. Now...can someone send me some cheerwine...please!!!!!! :) Yummy-- I had a Cheerwine float on the way home from the show last night!! :worthy:
