  1. Mike, that doesn't make sense. Your most favorite and least favorite things about DCA are both beer?
  2. As long as you get them out by Friday...
  3. Totally with Sam here. As a fellow DCI Class of '84 member, The push in Tender Land, to the end was one of my best drum corps memories.
  4. How about "droughts" for Cavies and SCV? The Madison and PR "droughts" could hardly be thought of as any sort of trending statistic, since they only won 2 titles each. Just think of Kingsmen's drought if you want to go down that road.
  5. How hard would it be for the moderators to create a separate forum for all the bashing, trashing and defending threads? They made one for G7...
  6. I think BD has a plan to be in 2 places at one time. They get enough turnout at tryouts to field 2 complete corps, so do it. Field a BD West and a BD East. Each BD plays the same show. Do ALL the competitions, and combine your best talent for finals. Everyone is in the corps, everyone gets a ring.
  7. Dear Blue Devils, Congratulations on another successful season. You are reading the same rulebook as the rest of DCI, right? Bob
  8. Let me clarify my post. I am only talking about the consistancy in placings from quarters to semis to finals. Places 1-17 in semis were the same as quarters. Placings 1-12 in finals were the same as semis and quarters. When looking ONLY at the overall placings of the corps in these 3 shows on 3 consecutive nights things look very consistent/boring. While I'll admit I do like to log in to the web to see the results of the shows each night, and I do get excited when I see corps B beat corps A when corps A won last night, I don't think the judges should fool with the numbers to make it exciting for me. I am just pointing out the statistical oddity that occurred at the end of this season.
  9. Well, I am not arguing with Mr. Boo, it is entirely possible that each judge called it as they saw it, and the overall performance of each corps put them in the exact same order 3 nights in a row. It was bound to happen sometime (after all, if you put enough monkeys at enough typewriters long enough, you eventually end up with the complete works of William Shakespere). It just seems a little odd that in only 30-someodd years of DCI this would happen so soon. And I am not knocking the corps or their performances. I will leave the critiques to those who actually saw them this year, all I had exposure to are the discussion threads and the scores. Just trying to spark interesting discussions
  10. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but was this the first year in DCI history that no corps placings changed between Quarters, Semis and Finals? What is with that? Were the performances SO consistant between the 3 shows that no corps deserved to move up or down? Is it slotting? Is it a conspiracy? Is this a byproduct of competitive inertia? What the heck is going on?
  11. I'll be driving a rental truck up Interstate 5, moving my son to school in Berkeley
  12. Thanks Randy! When I read the thread title "Coolest opening STATEMENT" I naturally thought the same thing.
  13. They can if they have the highest score (I can't believe no one has pointed this out yet).
  14. Well I heard it from the front (well, at least the push in the closer) a LOT. And we were LOUD!
  15. Sent Mine in Blue Devils 98.55 Bluecoats The Cadets The Cavaliers Carolina Crown Phantom Regiment Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Stars Boston Crusaders Madison Scouts Blue Knights Glassmen 86.05
  16. Can someone please close this post and let him start over?
  17. I don't know about ALL judges. I heard a very nice comment about my tone quality on a tape from Sandra Oppie (SP?) once...
  18. I gotta agree with Granny on this one. My only exposure to DCI in 2008 was DCP up until the quarterfinals theater show. I was really looking forward to seeing Phantom Regiment in particular, and was absoltely blown away by the show they put on there. Watching their march from 4th seed, to 3rd at quarters, 2nd in semis and then to win it all at finals was super exciting, totally believable, and dare I say it, destiny. Unless one of the 2-5 corps (or SCV or Madison if that were possible) is able to throw in some sort of amazing addition to their show that blows everyone away, I don't see anyone deserving to upset BD this year. Nobody has the requisite magic in 2010 to pull off a "Sparticus".
  19. And don't forget '84 Freelancers, when the entire rifle line started the show wearing cadets and playing sopranos, before some wild horn tosses, ditching the jackets, and picking up their rifles. That was a talented group!
  20. If you want the spats/leggings look, try wearing white socks, and hem the bottom of the pants up another inch. Worked for me back in the '70s (when I was growing like a weed)!
  21. Look for me on that video site. I played the baritone solo in the closer. We were all pretty tall back in those days!
