  1. 13 Blue Knights 80.138 14 Crossmen 78.125 15 The Academy 77.438 16 Madison Scouts 77.175 17 Spirit of Atlanta 76.300 Not much has changed except for Blue Stars and Blue Knights...hmmm, rebranding to Blue Scouts may be what it takes to get Madison moving up! But for SCV and SCV Cadets not competing this year and BD B not going to Indy...
  2. Thank you! Vuitton clarified that for me, too.
  3. Thank you! I thought so but I couldn't find it to verify (hence I believe). πŸ™‚
  4. Congratulations to The Academy for defeating the Madison Scouts for what I believe is the first time ever last night.
  5. NO ONE has disputed that. Actually, I'm disappointed that the kids are working as hard as every other DCI member but with _________ that just isn't on par. FIll in the blank.
  6. Yep, and the members who placed lower than the year before felt they had let down their older brothers. Being a perenial top tier corps was expected.
  7. You do great work, but this all means very little (NOT a dig on you by any means!) until San Antonio when one slate of judges evaluates the corps. Slotting will have an impact in the 18-13 range and since those corps are changing positions nightly in different shows there's no clear leader in that pack. Saturday afternoon and night will be the first reality check for everyone. Woo hoo!!
  8. It's sad that people are saying it's to the Scouts' advantage that BD B isn't going to Indy since they probably won't drop to 18th!
  9. The leadership still falls back on one little sliver of Scott Stewart's prep talks and after-show debriefs. "Scores don't matter". Except they do. Souvie sales and the quality of auditionees are based on how well a corps competes. BD doesn't get the cream of the talent every year because the auditionees want to hear applause. They pursue the best chance to get a ring.
  10. I still base how good a corps is according to the 17 corps Semi-final. There are only 20 World Class corps! Adding 8 additional corps to semis makes it almost laughable for a World Class corps to celebrate that they made the Friday night show if they're #s 18 - 25. Maybe the lowest ranked World Class corps should be allowed to compete for the Open Class Championship since that's who they are competitive with. Based on each of their latest scores, Madison is .5 behind Blue Devils B, but they're 15.65 behind Blue Devils. Let's see a battle between Madison and Concord again.
  11. Spirit is no longer in the rearview mirror. If SCV were marching, Scouts would be fighting for Semis. For those who still claim nothing is wrong with leadership, Prelims are in 22 days and the corps is slipping behind others. How long will that be acceptable before a change is made? Boards fired Stewart, Wall, and Salas for not being competitive (and other reasons), so there is a precedent. Low placements = fewer quality auditionees. Lower quality auditionees = lower placements, and the circle continues. THE Madison Scouts will take the field in San Antonio nearly 6 hours before BD. When they're performing the majority of ticket holders will still be on their way to the stadium. I applaud the member for pushing every day to correct the flaws that are pointed out by the techs. I sincerely wish those young men and women had people at the top who pushed as hard to correct their flaws which are being pointed out by "techs" only to be told, "I'm doing it right."
  12. Ruh roh. If SCV were active Madison would be sitting in 17th place after tonight and Spirit is in the rear view mirror and closing fast. Did they make changes since the last show??
  13. Thank you for the brief but comprehensive assessment!
  14. FOR THOSE ACCUSING TOXIC MASCULINITY I urge you to learn about the Madison Scouts by watching Scout's Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood. If, after viewing that movie you still think Madison wasn't "inclusive" and was an environment that creates toxicity, you may need to look inside yourself.
  15. Three really inane comments. There is no need to add girls for drum corps to be inclusive. In fact, sometimes exclusivity is a good thing. A particular bonding happens when males spend nearly every waking hour together. Since you're from the UK, you may not "get" American men. They ARE NOT in contention for a Saturday night gig. They are slipping, and those in their rearview mirror are closer than they appear. It's not about ovaries. It's about a long tradition that changed the lives of countless boys and turned them into productive and successful men. Old ideas aren't all bad, and new ideas aren't all good. Letting all of the immigrants into the UK seemed like a "good" thing because you'all were being inclusive, but the No-Go Zones and rise in crime show that it was a short-sighted decision. Adding girls was supposed to fix all of madison's competitive woes, but the shortsighted idea has been more destructive than constructive.
  16. When they decided to add girls, they should have let the Madison Scout brand die on the vine and revived the Capitol Sound name. The legacy of greatness Madison developed over two decades has 100% evaporated. The name Kingsmen still evokes a feeling of awe among some people. Madison fighting for semis is a slap in the face to the Men of Madison and the Brotherhood.
  17. But that facade was intimidating! πŸ™ƒ
  18. The problem is that all the other corps are also cleaning. Madison dropped behind Crossmen last night and other 12 - 16th sitting corps didn't compete. I hope you're right, Jeff, but I'm not optimistic for a Saturday night spot.
  19. How many current members have full beards? There was more testosterone flowing through guys in the '70s! 😝
  20. Absolutely correct. I'm showing my age, but the 1976 Madison show that hit the field in May was complete crap and out of the "kids*" control. Coming off of the '75 Championship season, most people expected them to repeat. And those "kids" probably would have were it not for Fred Sanford being given free rein by Bill Howard. The "kids" lost a month of cleaning because of learning an entirely new show. It wasn't the member's fault. The kids can only perfect what they are given. However, the better the talent, the better the product. And some shows lack the complexity to place high because the shows can only be designed at the level of the talent. You wouldn't program a high brass heavy show with featured soprano (yep, I said soprano) soloists unless you knew you would have guys to play the solos. *The members in 1976 looked like 30-year-olds compared to the member today! 😁
  21. Yep. My Excel sheet left out the number 7. You are right and I was wrong!
  22. They're currently 16th in raw scores. They could move up one spot because of SCV, but I don't think Finals are going to be a consideration.
  23. Do you have an estimated dollar amount? I heard it costs around $1 million per year to fund a DCI World Class corps. A donation of that amount would have to be made by someone with a moderately sized estate of around $5 million UNLESS he or she has no heirs! Probably more likely is a life insurance policy of $250,000 - $500,000, with the corps being the primary beneficiary. I don't know how deep the G-men and SCV holes are, but to eliminate debt and fund the first year back in business would could someone around $3 million for SCV based on numbers I've seen here on DCP. That would require an estate of nearly $10 million UNLESS he or she has no heirs! Most likely, the money would come from investment instruments. If a corps has someone THAT loyal and dedicated to them, they probably already know that money will be coming upon his or her death.
  24. Yes, they do. Define "rich"? People at all wealth levels can leave corps money.
