  1. The lower talent pool most likely. The girls who are more talented have already been going to the higher tier co-ed corps. Madison is not a great corps that will be a destination for people who weren't aware of drum corps the last time Madison placed well. It is a competitive activity and most people want to part of a winner.
  2. Saya tahu apa yang kamu maksud. Seragam itu tidak bagus!
  3. Absolutely is what I was thinking about local (UW has a lot of talented musicians) who may as well travel anywhere if there is no local corps. I hope someone convinces the leadership to hold a weekend audition/clinic in Madison.
  4. He wasn't specific to auditions, and I think camps make sense to be where access is easy. But for auditions, why should Madison area kids have to travel away from Madison to audition? Local band directors would send a lot of kids to auditions when they were held at East which is a great way to generate interest in the corps. If they have to travel they can go to any corps that they want while Madison would be the path of least resistance. If I were a parent and my kid wanted to march I would not pay for him to travel to audition IF my local corps held auditions in town. Of course if I had a "her", I would travel with her to Devils! Madison should try to reestablish a presence in Madison again and holding and audition/clinic in Madison.
  5. I wish there was a sarcasm button. These people are loons, BUT there is a thread about Madison where the topic of gender was covered. I apologize fo not being clear...LOONS I tell you!!!
  6. Please don't use gendered language like you did. Apparently, there are members who do not identify as "men" and you are insulting them by using gendered language. This is a good way to approach the words we speak.
  7. The Madison Scouts as we know them will disappear at 5:00 PM ET on August 9, 2019. The next iteration of Madison will not resemble anything we are used to seeing, but it will not be the Madison Scouts. RIP Madison Scouts. You were my first love in drum corps.
  8. You would go to DCP rather than DCI to find scores? I find that hard to fathom. Since you haven't been following, two Open Class corps decided to not tour to Indy or the Scouts would be in 18th place after last night. But I suspect you actually did know that.
  9. It appears that their improvement was no less or greater than anyone else. Did you expect them to stop rehearsing?
  10. Gender Dysphoria DSM-5 302.85. You can look it up in your copy of the DSM-V. http://www.sexologytoday.org/2016/01/do-trans-kids-stay-trans-when-they-grow_99.html Trans Life Survivors, Heyer, W. 2018
  11. I hope you're joking. The two terms are interchangeable in medicine.
  12. You're right, the DSM no longer lists homosexuality and there is a similar move to remove pedophilia from the next edition (b4uact.org) but I stated a fact that cannot be disputed. There are still many psychiatrists who believe that Gender Dysphoria is a mental illness and that many young people are being taught things that are dangerous to their own mental well-being. The debate on whether is should be removed from the next edition is ongoing because there hasn't been longitudinal studies of enough patients to get firm data. There have many reports of transgender regret from doctors around the world, which is one of the reason the APA is reluctant to remove GD as a disease. This is why I stated that many older people are concerned about mental illness. The current generation of kids have been diagnosed and treated for more mental illnesses than any generation before them. Coping mechanisms have been replaced with drugs and therapy. I'm as concerned about misdiagnoses of depression as I am GD. My point to the OP was that you can't "view" something that is scientifically based differently just because you want to. You may think Facebook is correct in stating that there are 58 genders, but the science doesn't support that notion, nor does DNA, or the medical society.
  13. "Old folks"? You are insulting everyone who has a different view on how the youth have been taught about gender, which isn't even relevant to this thread, but since you mentioned it, many old folks are concerned about mental illness. Gender dysphoria is recognized as a mental illness in the DSM-V. I just provided you with a fact not an opinion or an emotion. No one is bashing the corps members. If people don't like Madison's show, or BD's show, or Academy's show and they voice their opinion it's not bashing; it's opining. I watched the Scouts DCI Central show and I found nothing to cheer about. I also don't like watching baseball.
  14. That makes sense. Thank you for updating me so I don't sound like a dolt!
  15. Yet they would be out scored by several of those less thans. Isn't that worse? I'm not arguing with you at all Jeff; just incredulous.
  16. I'm sorry. The last I knew they were using the old Star facilities.
  17. Don't they use Star's old place in Bloomington for Spring Training? Do members not buy any meals?
  18. I was thinking they would spend the time in Bloomington and I thought they had housing there. Do you think the seedings make that much of a difference?
  19. Just saw this on the Page, dated August 2. "As we prepare to return our leased food truck next week, we will need to cater most of our meals! You can help by sponsoring a meal or contributing to the "Feed the Scouts" campaign. Each dollar you donate directly supports the Madison Scouts!"
  20. Then why are meals being catered and why are they seeking donations for the catered meals? Did they not budget for food through Saturday night? Are they feeding the corps out of the truck or is it just "with" the corps??
  21. Roman had a heart bigger than his brain, which is NOT an insult. He loved that corps and all of his kids, but his desire to stay WC did endanger the very kids he loved. The activity requires a huge amount of cash on hand to fulfill all of the operational needs. When corps have to plan on appearance monies during the season to make their budget through Indy they are surely going to have to skimp somewhere. Sadly, some of those come in the form of food and transportation. Turning around the Madison Scouts is exactly what needs to be done. That will require the swallowing of some pride along the way. The mere survival of Madison may be at risk since Newton's Third Law is always in effect. Going co-ed may bring in some new people (not just MMs) but it will alienate an equal number of current and past supporters. There are no negative comments on the Alumni Pages but those are Admin'ed and Moderated by people running the current corps. It would be interesting to know how many alumni feel the identify that drew them to Madison has been lost and that Madison will no longer be anything special since all but one corps is now co-ed.
  22. I was thinking in terms of going back to a 1st and 2nd tour format, which would cost a lot less money and ease their budget. With DCI being held in Indy that is close for them to travel to at the end of 2nd tour. They could limit the number of shows and log far fewer miles thus saving on fuel, food, etc. I know the DCI payments structure is bad, but Madison needs to do something to right their ship in ALL aspects not just competitively, which some people don't seem to understand.
